Little story to get you fired up about the game on Sunday
I have lived in San Diego for 15 years. And being a Steeler fan since birth, have hated seeing the Bolts fair-weathered fans flying their flags on games that end in W's and not recalling who San Diego's football team is on games that end in L's. Last night me and 2 of my canadian friends decided to head down to the stadium to see what the party was like. Being a die hard fan I decided to wear my Steelers jacket with the giant logo on the back. We had walked around the parking lot, talked to a few fans and enjoyed our brew. The atmosphere was fine. A little joking now and then about me being a Steelers fan, but that's expected. It wasn't until the end of the night that the fans had come to terms that their team had taken down the house that Peyton built. Then all hell broke loose. Blame it on the booze, blame it on the sproles performance. But, their fans turned unclassy in one motion. Calling the Steelers a crap team, telling me that they we're going to kill us given the chance. I was even taunted by one of the security guards and he told me F&%k the Steelers. I reminded them that the Chargers had yet to win a SB. "how many rings is it?" I proclaimed. That seems to be their kryptonite. I walked away telling two powder blue Charger fans, "when your team loses, keep flying those flags. It's when you lose a game, you lose the pride, and then lose the respect."
Let's hit em hard Steelers. They're not going to let me live it down if we lose. I know Blitz knows where I'm coming from.

I know how it feels!!!
I been a Steeler fan since I was introduced to Football when I was 6 years old by my dad and uncle. My uncle was a Pittsburgh Fan and my Dad was a Giants fan (he’s from NY) but my Uncle is from Pittsburgh. I loved the stories he would tell me about the defense and since then I was hooked. Now at 23 years old, I live in NORCAL surrounded by 49er fans who always argue that they have 5 rings just like us but are “UNDEFEATED in Super Bowls.” I just hope we face the Giants this year in SB 43 (cool rivalry I got with my dad, he’s been talking a lot of trash this year too) and win that 6th ring so we can be in the top category all by ourselves. I love that the forecast on Sunday will be snow and cold to give those Chargers a fell how real football is played!!!!

“Their fans turned unclassy in one motion”? Hey, wait a minute, weren’t you the guy that invited me to come to this blog under the premise that you keep it level headed? We didn’t all turn unclassy in one motion.
I do agree with your point about the fair weather fans. I hate them. I’ve always like the Steelers and root for them against just about any other team (except the Chargers of course). I hope to see a close game like our week 11 match-up.

they let the win get to their heads
and started with the name calling. YES, I was the one who invited you here. And no, I cannot speak for the entire Chargers fanbase. But the ones that were yelling obsenities at me weren’t exactly classy. I invited you here for that exact reason. We pride ourselves in level-headed thinking. I’m just trying to get the boys behind the curtain fired up for the game. Not dissing anyone.

It’s all good. I know exactly the people you are talking about. I’m not a SoCal native. As you can guess by my name, I was stationed there for 8 years and adopted them…which is fair, mind you, because there is no pro team in Oregon.
We do have some real douche bag fans sometimes. I was only saying that we aren’t all like that.

of course not
Just like the steelers have some unclassy fans. Beerman for example. But i don’t see them as real fans. Get some of your charger fans on here and lets talk about sunday. I can’t wait.

I’ll try to get them on here. I’m fairly new to BoltsFromTheBlue. I can honestly say the only time I’ve really seen anyone be a jerk on that site is to donkey (a.k.a Broncos) fans. So far, from what I’ve seen on Behind the Steel Curtain, everyone seems to be pretty level-headed just like you said.

A good franchise
usually has good fans. It can all be linked to Blitz, our founder, for keeping such level headed thinking on this site. There are other Steeler sites that people can talk trash on. We like the atmosphere here. It’s all about information.

I tell you what…a lot of the guys from the donkeys blog…just ridiculous.

I have never
really had as much disdain for the Chargers as I have for some other teams like the Browns, Dirty Birds, or Cowgirls, but I will say that it wouldn’t reak my heart to shut Phillip Rivers the hell up. He has always been kind of annoyng to me. I like that BB has kind of a chip on his shoulder when he plays the guys that were drafted ahead of him. News flash to SD fans…Sproles will not get over 300 yds total offense against the Steelers. No way, no how.

178 yards of that came off kick and punt returns, so I wouldn’t really call it total offense. I’m asking because I truly don’t know, not to be a smartass: how is the Steeler’s kickoff and punt teams?

We are in the top 10 in coverage on on punts and kickoffs,
However we are in the bottom 10 in punting average. Last time we played you our punter was injured. Paul Ernster was our punter that game. He punted 4 times for like a 30.5 yard average and that was one of his better games.
Mitch Berger is healthy again, supposedly, but we lossed our long snapper in the Giants game(long story). The kid we signed off the practice squad has snapped some high ones, so between that and Berger’s shaky punting, you have a big advantage over us in the punting game.
Our normal punter, Dan Sepulveda, aka Robo Punter tore an ACL on the first day of training camp, but he should be healthy for the ’09 season. I hope.

The Steelers special teams unit has had a huge imrovement from last year. The punts are so so with Berger. But our punt return is very quick at making stops. I’ll find the numbers for you. Look for a lot of touchbacks if Schipers has a god like game like he did yesterday.

First in kickoff returns allowed, and 3rd in punt returns allowed.
Lets not talk about our return units.

Yeah we can cover and hit you, but...
we can’t return anything. I don’t know why…. we just can’t. We use our short yardage back (Gary Russel) on kick offs and a combination of Holmes and Moore on punts. If i were the chargers, i wouldn’t worry too much about about that phase of our game.

Well, we may be the cure for that disease. We have screwed ourselves by giving up good field position way too many times.
