Need Help
Got this email from the father of a US soldier who has this weekend off. Running out of time to help them out, so if you know anything or where to look, leave a comment. Thanks.
dear steeler planet residents,
where in southeast australia (sydney, canberra, etc) could you hook up with the members of the steeler nation for the game next weekend...our son will be r/r from iraq and would love to try to sip a few cool ones down under with some folks in that part of the world who love the black and gold
put this out to the planet for us and lets see where he could go and enjoy another steeler victory
please give an address and phone number if possible for him
thanks so much,[name redacted]

You might want to look back to the christmas post you did. Someone from Oz commented, maybe you can email them?

This place is in Sydney, can’t be sure they will have the game, but the way their website looks I would be surprised if they didn’t

CrystalPalace?
The CrystalPalace is a big, fancy place on Sydney Harbour that has a SuperBowl party every year but I’m not sure thay will have the playoff games.
OneWorld in Parramatta is a long way off the tourist trail for a visitor. I’ve spent some time in Sydney over the years and would suggest the Circular Quay (pronounced Key – the hub of transport in downtown) and nearby Darling Harbour areas. These places are right on Sydney harbor and offer many tourist bars and restaurants. This would be the best place to be as a tourist/visitor. If you can’t find the game in Parramatta, you’re way out in the outer suburbs and will have nothing to do. If he can’t find the game, harbor boat tours are a must and the famous Opera House and Harbour Bridge are right there.
One possibility is Churchill’s Sports Bar – this place is south of city centre, about halfway to Botany. It is fairly close to the airport. Famous Bondi beach is east of here. Address is: 532 Anzac Parade, Kingsford 2032. (02 9313 6386)
Is he flying into Sydney? Canberra is the capitol but is a much quieter and smaller city. Don’t go there to look for the game unless he is flying in there (not likely). It is many hours away and definetly would be a long shot.
NOTE: Keep in mind that it will be about 0745 in the morning on Monday, so not a lot of places will be open other than the big pubs/hotels. The term hotel can have many meanings in Australia. The average “hotel” is a bar with small rooms for rent, but not necessarily available to the short term traveller nor the kind you would want !! Tourist area will be the best bet.

Steelers game on tv in SYD
If anyone is in contact with the lad looking for the Steelers game, looks like SkySports Channel 3 is playing edited versions of two games – the Steelers and also the NY Giants/Iggles game at 7:00 am Monday morning. This would appear to be live but will not have as many commercials and will probably jump from one game to the next. They are replaying this on SkySports Channel 2 at 11:00 am. Any of the big sports pubs should have this on and there won’t be a crowd that early in the day. I’m sure there will be some Steelers fans at the larger pubs in the downtown/tourist area to watch the game.
Interesting replays of American Football (known as ‘Gridiron’ DownUnder) occur on Thursday Jan 15 on FoxSports HD starting at 8:30 in the morning with 2 NFL playoff game replays from this weekend. Then college football bowl games – Orange, Sugar, Fiesta and finishing with the BCS Championship from 6:30 – 8:30 pm.
Hope this helps…. Cheers mate – it’s your shout !!
