Chargers WR Vincent Jackson arrested
Details are sparse, but I just found this on SI.com:
Not sure yet if this will his status for Sunday's game. The league probably won't do anything, so it would be up to the Chargers to deactivate him in the same way the Steelers did with Santonio Holmes earlier this season. With it being a playoff game, that's probably not too likely.

Sorry
Not every team can do the right thing and ask a law breaking wide receiver to ride the pine. This is why I’m proud to be a Steelers fan even when they lose. Of course, San Diego still might do the right thing. But I doubt if even the Steelers would have had the gumption to sit Holmes for a divisional playoff game.

Agreed about the last sentence – not positive on that one. No one on our team better do anything that forces us to find out.

It would only be fair. Come on. Help us out here. It would be like Neuheisel burning a timeout in support of USC wearing their home unis on the road. Let’s see here…how about if…Polamalu sits out. Yep, that sounds fair.

If it was his SECOND OFFENSE.....
they would.
The arrest is troubling not only for itself; but also because it his second arrest for this offense. He was reportedly driving on probation for a prior offense.

It is irrelevent. Hes going to play. If the same thing happened to a Steeler player there is NO WAY they would suspend him. GO CHARGERS! Its a different D this time, actually a completely different team.

Completely different?
Maybe if the roster had seen some dramatic changes. The only thing that has changed is the fact that your defense is playing better thanks to the new DC. But, don’t look for a complete turnaround in Pitt. The cold weather will make Schifers feel like he’s punting a bowling ball than a football. If you want to win this game you have to establish the run. Because our secondary will shadow the best of the WR in the league all day long.

The offense is much better too. Did you know that we led the AFC in scoring? I heard that after the Denver game and though, “NO EFFING WAY”…but it’s true. I feel the same as Chargersteve about it being a different team. I watched every single game and I can tell you that the last 5 games or so we were just playing completely different that we had all year.

That's great and all
But this will be another low scoring back and forth game. It’s not going to be a warm high scoring day but more of a low scoring knock someone’s friggin teeth out battle. I don’t think that Sproles will be the punt returner all day just because of the work load he has to take on with LT out. With our LB’s hitting him all day he won’t have the juice to finish all the way through. Pitt hits hard and Bennet will have to supplement the ground game more often than you think. BTW, I was watching team cam earlier and Jim Mora was talking to Norv Turner about the matchup. Norv called BB Ben Rossumberger. I don’t see a lot of prep if the head coach still can’t pronounce the QB’s name that most 5 year olds can. But, all I really want to say is how thankfull Steeler Nation should be to have a light up the room head coach like Tomlin on the sidelines as opposed to an old boring monotone boss. C’mon Mike T let’s get it done!

Tomlin is badass. I really like that guy. I hope you are right in that I hope it’s low scoring. Like I said a few times already, the Steelers are clearly the favorite here and should win. You don’t need to convince me.

I’m sure closing out the season against some of the league’s worst defenses didn’t help. DId the chargers play any top 10 defenses besides the steelers? They only seemed to be able to put up 17 in regulation against the colts, who aren’t exactly noted for their defense.

Yeah, that’s true. We played Tampa at Tampa and they had a good defense. I hate the “what if” game, but I will say that we fumbled a ball at the 1 yard line through the end zone for a touchback, and Rivers threw an INT in the endzone, so that could have easily been 27 or 31 against Indy last week. Don’t get me wrong, I’m by NO MEANS saying we’ll score that many against the Steelers. My point was simply that we are playing much better at the end of the season.

True, tampa’s D isn’t bad, I forgot about them, though clearly they struggled mightily down the stretch when you played them. Mainly I’m just saying that having the 2nd most points doesn’t mean crap because largely SD gained huge points against crap D’s. You played the 27th, 29th, and 31st ranked defenses – twice.
I definitely agree that they looked better down the stretch though – execution and results wise.

That's right.
In fact, teams aren’t allowed to suspend players for drug/alcohol issues. Only the NFL can do that, but we did anyway earlier this season with Santonio Holmes.

I have changed my mind
My first post I questioned whether Tomlin would sit Santonio in this situation. I didn’t know this was VJ’s second offense. I think the Steelers would likely sit a guy who repeatedly endangers the general public with drunken driving. Besides, DUI is worse than possession of marijuana: the latter doesn’t endanger anyone else.

And we are not taking them seriously?
If they are preparing for us by drinking until all hours of the night and then coming to practice hungover, I think we will win fairly easily. I don’t know about you guys, but I don’t function quite so well under these circumstances.

arrests
I can think of 2 times a player got arrested the week before a game:
1. Eugene Robinson. The night before Falcons played in SB he gets arrested with a hooker!!! Just rying to relieve some pregame stress…his wife was not happy…Falcons lose.
2. Colts player v. Steelers in 2006. A defensive back, I think, was arrested, the night before our game with the Colts on our last SB run. Domestic violence. Colts lose.
3. Bengals player, fullback?, v. 49ers the night before a SB (1986??). Drugs. Bengals lose.
Can anyone think of others?
I hope the trend continues of offending players teams losing…

Nick Harper was the colts player,
But it was his wife who was arrested for stabbing him. They later claimed it was an accident. He had been arrested six months earlier for striking her. He was a game time decision to play and then winds up scooping the Bus’s fumble and if not for “The Tackle”, we are still try to get one for thumb.
The Bengals player was Stanley Wilson. He never played again in the NFL.
The only other player that comes to mind is Barret Robbins, the former pro bowl center for the Raiders. He wasn’t arrested but he went missing for a few day before SB XXXVII and then checked himself into the mental hospital.

One more I just thought of.
Adrian Awasom, a DE for the Giants was arrested last year for a DUI in Arizona right before the SB. He was on the injured reserve list at the time. They sent him home and cut him before this season. I’m sure there are one or two more, but I can’t think if them.
