MIKE TOMLIN continues to rewrite the record books in Pittsburgh becoming the only head coach in Steelers’ history to win division titles in his first two seasons as he established a franchise record with 22 wins in that time. The Steelers secured the second seed in the AFC, captured the AFC North Division title for the second year in a row, and posted a 6-0 record within their division as part of their 12-4 record. Under Tomlin’s leadership, the Steelers led the NFL in total defense, pass defense, scoring defense and finished second in rush defense. The defense was bolstered by the team’s 51 sacks, including James Harrison’s team-record 16. The Steelers offense included QB Ben Roethlisberger’s air attack passing for 3,301 yards and 17 touchdowns. Tomlin was nominated for three Motorola NFL Coach of the Week awards, winning all three.

.... unless you're robert ethan or beerman ;)
seriously, he’s done a heck of a job – I don’t know that he has a better case than Smith, Harbaugh or Sparano, but I’m voting for him out of my unashamed homerism…
Sorry
Tomlin is great, but Mike Smith did a hell of a job. I would rather have Tomlin as a coach, but Mike Smith did everything right this past year. Have to be honest.

Tomlin is clearly the man for the next 15 years....
..or as long as he wants the job and stays healthy. And I wouldn’t trade him for any coach in the game right now.
But Mike Smith and that Tony Soprano guy from Lodi came from so far back, you have to give one of them COY. Coming from 1-15 to win your division! Going from one win to double digits! Gimme a break! Going from the Ghost of Michael Vick to Ryan and resepctability in one year! Those guys deserve it.
CT has done an incredible job, holding together and building a team with a weak offensive line. He’s turned the special teams coverage unit from a disaster into a team of hungry beasts. And he’s somehow managed to gather momentum with a team that has had serious injury problems at running back.
Tomlin’s greatest achievements this year may be his leadership – he is clearly a leader of men – and his papering over serious weaknesses in a team that is still a work in progress and a year away from what it can be. We all appreciate that, but that’s not how Coach of the Year is chosen.
When you take a horse headed for the glue factory and get him to finish in the money in the Kentucky Derby, that’s how you get to be COY. And that’s what Smith and Sparano did. CT started with a thoroughbred and a 9-2 shot, so there’s no way he could come from as far behind as they did with their 125-1 shots.
Don’t worry, though. Time and ability are on his side. He’ll get his share of awards.
