Mangini named Browns Head Coach

here we go steelers. Now we have to take on mangenius twice a year. I don't think it will help that much for the browns organization. They have still have a lot to overcome. I still want Division titles every year. Bring it Eric! Oh and by the way I changed my account name. Gotta love the Hochuli! Broccoli broccoli broccoli Broccoli broccoli broccoli broccoli broccoli. ed loves his freakin broccoli. Broccoli is to ed what spinach is to popeye. All was filler

Time to take his Man Genius ass down twice a year. you’d think they would have gotten a new Gm before a new HC. Did you know that Mangini used to be a ball boy in Cleaveland?

Yeah

We saw how this plan worked out when they hired Crennel and then Savage and tried to force these two to work together. Cleveland just doesn’t get it.

this is retarded

Mangina is so totally not the answer. They should have tried for shananay or look for somebody else.

I really think getting a HC who didnt work out somewhere else is stupid. I mean honestly, its very clear he didnt work out in what was an above average team. What makes you think hes gonna work with your steaming pile of dookie.

But hey whatevs we still get two automatic wins against em a year, and usually 1 shutout.

It’s very clear he didn’t work out in what was an above average team? I’m not saying this is the type of hire that has us jumping through hoops at the moment, but I don’t see how it was “very clear” he didn’t work out with the Jets.

Regarding other people, we already tried that with Cowher and a feeler to Holmgren. Shanahan seems to be still deciding what to do (break or return), so waiting around for him and losing out on another candidate doesn’t seem idealistic. Granted, it’d be nice to find a first-year head coach success like Mike Tomlin, but I’m not very confident we would’ve had a “catch” like that this year. Mangini was the next best in line.

Who is in Charge in Cleveland?

Doesn’t matter who the coach is if the management team is going to keep the team in a continuous state of moderate chaos. Cleveland has no direction, no clear leader and no one unifying mission in the draft or elsewhere. Mangini may help but long term problems remain.

They’re not as bad as Cincinnati, which is a joke and needs to be gutted. They need a good old Bill Parcells ass kicking followed by the fire-sale. How do those guys keep their jobs??!!

Funny...?

Funny ha ha or funny stupid? Interesting that the Browns hired another Belichek disciple. Wasn’t Romeo Crennel from the Jets/Pats lineage too? I hope he brings Favre with him !!!

You would think they would go elsewhere if only to try another school of thought…. I do believe he will be better than Crennel. His NYJ bosses injecting Favre into the mix really muddied the waters there. Is it Mangini’s fault the Favre experiment didn’t work? I think not. Favre played to prove the Packers wrong, not because he wanted to play for the Jets. You can’t fake it for 6 months. His prima-donna antics divided the locker room and his interceptions doomed the Jets and Mangini’s career. Now Favre will retire and leave the Jets with nothing but a lighter bank account and a lingering headache. Thanks Brett – you’re the greatest!!!

Theory...

I’ve been sitting on this theory for a while, and the hiring of Mangini only adds to it. I believe the Browns are hiring a coach this year who they are hoping will fail, so they can hire Cowher next year. I know he was at least intrigued by the Browns job, and the big reason why he didn’t take the job is because of his daughter, who is a senior in high school. Next year, his daughter will have graduated, and nothing will be keeping him back from coaching. Seriously, look for Cowher on the Browns sidelines in ’10.

I'm not afraid of Mangini

. . . because he’s coaching the Browns. That team is cursed, plain and simple. Bring it, Eric! Anyone from the Belichick lineage will always face stiff resistance from the Stillers.

I’m not afraid of mangini because he’s freaking mangini.

This is brilliant.

I hear favre isn’t retiring, why don’t you hire him? That’d be awesome!

It's alomost as if they are trying to reverse their mojo or something.

Bill Belichick was the last coach for the old Browns before the packed up and moved to Balltimore. First, they hire Crennel, DC for Belichick then they fire him. Now what do they do? Hire Mangini, also Belichick’s former DC. If this doesn’t work out, who will be next? Charlie Weiss?

Belichick wasn't quite the genious back then.

    He didn’t have Tom Brady.

He did, however, have Bernie Kosar and Vinny Testeverde. So what does the Dumbass do? He benches Kosar for Testeverde, who he signed from Tampa Bay. Then, Testeverde gets injured and Kosar starts the next week and has a bad game. Belichick cuts him. They were in first place at the time mind you. They play the rest of the season with their third-stringer, Todd Philcox and finish 7-9. Belichick cites “diminishing skills” as the reson for Kosar’s release.

Kosar was signed by the Dallas Cowboys three days later to fill in for an injured Troy Aikman. He won two games as a starter. Then, in the NFCCG Aikman got injured and Kosar filled in again (5-9, 83 yds, 1 TD, 0 INT). In the Super Bowl, he got in on one play—the last play. They put him in for the final kneel down.

I think Mangini isn't a horrible pick

Though someone said earlier they may be wanting someone there temporarily..there may be some truth to that. I don’t think they are holding out for Cowher though. They want someone that can bring discipline immediately. He can do that. I also think he can make the Browns much better. He’s not who I would have went after, but I think they got a very good coach. His situation in New York with the personnel moves made him look bad, but I think he’ll do fine. I’m no Browns fan so I don’t like him becoming the coach. I think he will make them contenders very quickly. Some may disagree but time will tell huh? By the way Charlie Weiss would be great! Then even Pitt could beat them.

Poor Browns

I really dont see how they thought this would be a good idea. Maybe because nobody else wanted to go there, including Cowher.

by SteelerDomination on Jan 8, 2009 1:14 AM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Who would

Why on earth would anybody want to work there?

Firstly you have the fact that the team is crap.

Second, they aren’t that smart. They lit their river on fire twice.

3rd, you stand a high percentage chance of getting Staph.

I'm not worried but...

I think Mangini understands the zone blitz scheme better than most coaches. He seems to know ways to scheme at least a little against it. The Jets did beat us with a four win team last year.
With that said, they are still the Browns so my worries are somewhat diminished. At best they go 7-9 and we beat their brains in twice.

Cowher - no

I don’t think so. First of all, they wouldn’t hire Man-genius to a 4 yr contract to hold the spot for a year. Second, if that is the plan they would hire a young gun from college or pro asst coach that they could get cheap.

Cowher won’t coach there because it’s the Browns. Also, the Steeler/Rooney connection is probably still civil enough and respectful enough to prevent it. More so, there are other jobs coming up which will be better….How about these 4 places:

Washington? It’s close to home, big money owner, new stadium, decent roster.

Buffalo? Old time owner, passionate fans, place that loves defense, possible GM title.

Chicago? Perfect fit, will get time to fix it, easy improvement 1st year (QB and Def Coor)

Dallas? Win at all costs, big money, decent roster plus new free agents always come….
Say it can’t happen? Well, no one was more ill-fitting than Parcells but he took the job. By 2010, Owens will be gone and so will some of the other malcontents. Jones will pay big and maybe throw in some GM type responsibilities. Why ? He is desperate to win the SB and get back on TV !!

Longer odds on Tampa Bay or Kansas City. The worst jobs will be filled in 2009 – Detroit and Oakland. Cincinnati is possible in 2010 but other places are much more attractive.

Possible 2010 vacancy and Cowher: San Diego.

If he’s coming back in 2009….. Indianapolis.
