Deffenses true NIKKNAME
Hey what up STEELERnation. I hate to beat a dead and decayed horse, but i think i just came up with a nickname for our historic deffense that has been number 1 these past two seasons. Let me start by saying in the 70s it was THE STEEL CURTAIN because it was impossible to move them out of the way. And in the 90s it was BLITZBURGH because it was impossible to stop the constant pressure they brought. Now as for our current deffense not only are they hard to move out of the way, but its also hard to negate the pressure they bring. Realizing this made me think they are like a combination of the great deffenses we once had. Which is why i believe the nickname for this D should be !!THE BLITZKURTAIN!!
thoughts?? comments?? please let them be heard.

like the train of thought
But cant say its all that pleasing to the ear. Damn is it tougher than I ever imagined to get a freakin nickname amongst thousands of fans.
Last time we took a shot at a nickname
It was Titan week and the Steelers got drilled by the Titans.
"The team that scores the most points wins."

Still love Lebeuceans Eleven.
"Damnit mom! You almost ran over Greg Lloyd!"
at an autograph signing back in 95. He walked out in front of our minivan, and my mom almost hit him. He apologized.

but really, we should stop. spit three times, knock on wood. last time we went down this path, defense was as bad as theyve been all year.

one more thing
I dont know if any of yinz caught the bit in a PPG article that said Woodley wants to call it The Steel Pit…. not the best name I know. But it comes from a player- so why not just call it official and close this discussion?
cause you are right
this talk causes lots of bad ju-ju
I have it!!!
After reading the Lebeau article, how can we NOT select (no flash) simply, The Lebeau Boys!!!

Ed Hochuli says...
just stop with the nicknames already. Our D already has said that they aren’t deserving of a nickname or to be called an elite defense until they bring home one for the other thumb. So I know it’s hard to bite our tongues, but we have to refer to them as, say it with me now, “The Pittsburgh Steelers Defense.” Got a nice ring to it.

The steel Blitz defense
thats it… read the article http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/09009/940658-66.stm
we’re a combination of the steel curtain and blizburgh so the obvious answer is the steel blitz
The Steelers represent the Steel Workers; which is communism

Dont' force it...
…you’ll fudge it. Good nicknames come from inspiration. The more you over-think a thing, the less inspirational it seems.
I think one of the problems we have with naming this defense is that no single attribute stands out. We’re not just run stuffers, we’re also good at stopping the pass. We don’t just blitz, we’re also good with picks. It’s easier to give a nickname when the thing you are describing is one dimensional. Trying to pick a single name that reflects all the things the Steelers results in watered down verbiage.
I’m guessing this is a Brits-only reference, but to me this Defense is ’Dad’s Army’*.
*Popular name for the Home Guard in WWII, later the name of a classic sitcom; no idea if it made it across the Atlantic, but it’s been their nickname in my head ever since I heard what they called the great Coach LeBeau.
