PLEASE COMFORT ME!!!

Help!  I need someone to talk me off the ledge!  I am getting worried about some upcoming games...Minny, at Denver...Please explain to me how we beat those two teams?  I believe, if we beat those two teams, we will be 13-3 or 12-4...If we dont improve our 4th quarter defense, we will lose those games...Brady had a tough day against that defense...can our O-Line slow down the vikes front four?  It could be a game like the eagles last year, except they are not a blitzing team..can we run against those guys?  Can we stop those guys?  Minny is a dome team and I do believe that we can contain him...but, can we move against them?

John Madden sighting I beleive

"Polamalu’s lineage can be traced through several roots. Chuck Norris mated with an Amazon Queen, and on the other side, Tony Hawk mated with Mother Nature.

The two children of these spawned and fused in a tantric love session to create Troy Polamalu. The mother however died as he tore through the birth canal with a spin move."

this is how

first off Troy will be back and he is not the cure all but it does seem that the defensive play calling has been much more conservative without him…so blitzes should be back in full affect…favre and orton especially will have to deal with that…troy will spy Adrian Peterson all day..thats the key to beating Vikes, as far as moving the ball on them..I believe Ben and this offense can score on anyone..he’s on fire this year and with Mendinhall coming alive and the line looking ok for the first time..even against the Vikes front 4 they will be fine…if wallace and sweed quit dropping touchdowns steelers would look like offesive juggernaughts

Who

Did the broncos/Vikings beat to make us scared? Don’t say the pats, because they aren’t that same team at all that went 18-1

by GDEUCE on Oct 12, 2009 6:27 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

I'm going to go with...

Every team they have faced on this one. They are both undefeated, and they can only beat the teams they’re scheduled for so…

by NYSteelersFan4 on Oct 13, 2009 9:02 AM EDT up reply actions

The Steelers can beat anybody

If they decide to put forth the effort. That’s been the big question so far this year.

by Billy52 on Oct 12, 2009 6:45 PM EDT reply actions

Calm down...

Every year this happens.. teams take off like a shot and look unbeatable, and then the reality of the NFL schedule sets in.

Let’s look at Minnasota first:

Here are the teams they have played and beat:

Cleveland, Detroit, SF, Green Bay and St Louis. OK…. feel better? I know I do…

Cleveland — that offensive powerhouse that didn’t didn’t manage to score a touchdown against the Bills, managed 20 points against the vaunted Minnesota defense. Detroit managed to score a touchdown and two field goals against them (which, interestingly enough is exactly what they managed to score against the Steelers) They barely beat a SF team that may or may not be any good — the jury is still very much out on that one. They beat a Green Bay team that fielded a makeshift offensive line — at home — in an emotional game that was just too much for the Pack… and then they beat up on St Louis — but who doesn’t?

Yes, the Viking are 5-0… but they haven’t exactly taken on the NFL’s best.

AND — and this is really important — they are coming to Heinz field to play. And this is AFTER our bye week. I like our chances… I really do…

Now, let us examine the feel good story that is the Denver Broncos… you also cannot believe this hype. They really should have lost to the Bengals — that was a fluke that went their way, but it wasn’t like they dominated the game and deserved to win.

The went on to beat Cleveland — no great feat there. They beat Oakland… again, no surprise…and then they beat the Cowboys. But, watching the Cowboys barely beat Kansas City… and laying an egg against New York at home… does anyone (except Jerry Jones) really think this is a super bowl caliber team?

Honestly, except for the Patriots, who have the Broncos beat that are really good? And, one could argue that — despite Peter King wishing it so — the Patriots are not really that good this year.

My point is, neither of those teams are as good as their record indicates. They are not appreciably better than the Steelers.

Could either of those teams beat the Steelers? Sure. I don’t think the Steelers are heads and shoulders above them, either. I think they will be pretty close games. But I think the Steelers shut down Adrian Peterson, and I think Favre cannot win the game against a defense that has Troy Polamalu back, in Pittsburgh, with the winds swirling off of the Youghiogheny.

Beating Denver, in Denver, is not as easy, to be honest. But Ben sure played well there in 2005. And I don’t think Kyle Orton can beat the Steelers defense. He can get maybe 14 or 17 points if he is lucky, and I am pretty sure Ben can beat that.

I don’t take anything for granted — this is the NFL and every team is bringing its A game against us… but I really think th Steelers get on a roll here and win their next 5 games. We may drop the game to Baltimore in Baltimore… But then we probably win out… which would put us right at 12-4, and into the Playoffs.

So, come back from the ledge. It is far from over…

The Vikings game

is after the Browns game, and then its the bye week, and then the Broncos, like 2 years ago.

by GDEUCE on Oct 13, 2009 1:04 AM EDT up reply actions

Yep

My Bad. Vikings before the bye. I still think Troy is back for it. And it is at home. So, I still think we beat the Vikings… whether they are 6-0 when we take them on or not, I really don’t know. I can’t figure the Ravens out…

They'll be fine

I realize that this team for some reason plays to the level of it’s competition. They will elevate when needed. Ok…I know I’m simplifying this but hey I’m trying to comfort the lady ok?

What competition?

So far… who have we played that is a really good team?

The Bears? Chargers?

The Chargers are a beat-up scam… every years folks in CA get all sentimental and pick them… every year they show us who they really are… but it never seems to matter. But the Chargers aren’t that good.

Chicago? Really? That’s a good team? The Packers demolished them. How did we lose that game?

Cincinnati is 5-0… but are you telling me that they are a great team?

Frankly, so far, the NFL looks very average — and that includes the defending super bowl champions.

Anybody can beat anybody this year. There is no dominant team. There are doormats… but no dominance.

As far as I am concerned, the Super Bowl is wide open right now…

Agreed, WIIIIDE open

Nobody has really shown much mettle save for the Colts. But they always start the year with like a dozen wins so whatever. They usually give it up by years end.

by Mechem on Oct 13, 2009 9:17 AM EDT up reply actions

I agree with that part. :)

Well, I guess

I guess you could argue that some teams have shown mettle (but I agree with you, only the COLTS seem for real):

GIANTS, VIKINGS, SAINTS, COLTS, BENGALS, BRONCOS are all unbeaten. I would say of the group, the SAINTS and COLTS have looked the best doing it.

GIANTS may be for real… but I have had planar fasciitis, and I cannot imagine Eli making it through the season. That takes about a year to heal — and if he is shooting it up and playing through the pain, that could end up really messing with his career.

The SAINTS are interesting. Normally I dismiss any NFC team — especially when you get to play St. Louis, Washington, and Tampa Bay twice… but they also beat the Jets and Philly… so we’ll see.

by MarkJoel66 on Oct 13, 2009 9:47 AM EDT up reply actions

Afc Colts ,Pats, Steelers, Purple brownies, and some scub from the west, I guess the Broncos but I dont think there all that. The usual suspects.

Then it gets cold, Peyton n the colts get soft. somebody like the jets beats the Patriots, we crush the jets on to the SB.

the Nfc is a cluster. Saints Giants Eagles Atlanta? i dont know.
