although I can't stand to even
look at him, how would Limbaugh being an owner affect the Steelers? It’s not like it would be the first time an NFL team is run by an idiot (read: Jerry Jones, Al Davis, Daniel Snyder, etc). Who cares

Why not Limbaugh?
He has the money he can do what he wants can he not? Besides half the garbage said that is attributed to him is either made up lies or grossly misconstrued anyway. If Rush wasn’t a Republican then the media nor anyone else wouldn’t have a problem with it.

Why does it matter that Rush owns a part of a team He’s not buying the Rams all by himself so why does it matter

In America
Curious; last time I checked we still have a constitution and live in the United States of America. In this country everyone is free to their pursuit of happiness. If puppet head Rush wants to own a football team what skin is it off your nose? Or the Rooneys? If some dumb lineman doesn’t want to take Rush’s millions someone else will.
And while I don’t necessarily support Limbaugh’s political opinion I think it’s ludicrous to go around saying Limbaugh, Republicans or Conservatives “hate black people” as was spouted by Wrighster or whomever. While free to espouse any view in America, this is not productive dialog in this country.

Should he be allowed by the league? Absolutely.
Would I want him involved in the management of my team? Certainly not. I think it’s glaringly bad judgment for the Checketts group to include him as a partner. Agree or disagree with his politics, even if it did not affect the Rams ability to attract players (another debate), Rush’s presence would overshadow the football operations. While that temporarily might be a respite for Rams fans, it is not how to run a successful team (see Jones, Jerry and Snyder, Daniel).

But it’s his money, he can do with it what he wishes.
If the players don’t like it, don’t sign with him. If the other owners don’t like it, don’t conduct any more business with him then you have to. It’s that simple.
Plus we’re talking about a minority ownership here, he’s not going to be making too many influential decisions for the team.

Limbaugh has a lot in common with Jesse and Sharpton....
They’ve never really run anything….except their mouths.
Although when Rush was better known as Jeff Christie and playing records on KQV Radio in Pittsburgh, he was a huge Steeler fan. And he later went on to Kansas City and got a job with the Kansas City Royals before they let him go.
I agree with northside that huge egos can be toxic to running a football team, and we’ve seen with Rush’s ill-fated experience as an NFL color man and numerous other red flags that he’ll bring more controversy than success.
Limbaugh has also made a career out of dancing around the third rail of race, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he said something and some player ended up decking him.

Limbaugh also has a lot in comment with O'Reilly and Olbermann....
I’ve actually worked with each of them at one time or another….and they’re all assholes. Insufferable, big egos, and blowhards.
If I had to rate them on the Rectal Scale, it would be….
1) O’Reilly, far and away. Bully, blowhard, totally in love with himself.
2) Olbermann, An insecure geek who has never respected facts or other people. And who manufactures outrage and injury when people speak the truth about him.
3) Limbaugh, by far the most personable of the three, but still an asshole who forced his employee – a legal immigrant – to buy illicit drugs for him in order to keep her job. That could have been legal cause for her deportation. But he’s rich, white, and powerful, so her situation makes no nevermind.
If I had to choose one of them with whom to go to dinner, I think I’d either stay home or dine alone.

First let me say that I am a hispanic woman, who was born in columbia south america. I listen to RUSH everyday since 1988 and have NEVER, EVER heard him say anything racist, sexist or homophobic! I like his show. very interesting. I haven't listened as long as 1988 but I haven't heard anything racist
from him. He isn’t even close to being the “hatemonger” the media paints him to be. If he did own a team he would be smart enough to bring in a football guy to run the operation. He is a huge fan of the Steelers and I am sure he would want his team run the way the Steelers do.

And in the same sense...
If people disagree with you, they are labeled commies, or they hate America, or they aren’t men. I’m just pointing out that it seems to go both ways at times, not to argue with you.
What can be said, and I think with some degree of certainty, is that there are several things he has said that have divided arguements more then they helped to find a solution to the problem at hand. Whether that was his intended consequense is a topic for debate, but not a debatable topic here, on a sports website.
By the way, I too listen to his show, daily in fact. I find him entertaining, but not totally factual at times. It’s on right now in the office. I am not a deeply conservative person, any more then I’m an extreme liberal, but that is how I see it.

I question the motive of any poll...
With just a yes or no answer. There is no answer to that question that can be summed up in one word, there just isn’t. We should never like America as is (please don’t take that the wrong way). If we just rested on what we have, without trying to make things better somewhere, we would lose what it is to be America, and lose what makes us the best country on Earth.
And I find it hard to say either side is the biggest hater. The answer, as it always seems to be, is somewhere in the middle. The goal should be finding the solution, not winning the arguement. Anyone can argue all day and then it can all be forgotten, it’s the solution that is remembered.

Rush is NOT a racist, but he says things that piss off and hurt Black folks....
He used to refer to his producer as “Bo Snerdley.” That was the stage name for his go-to guy, a terrific fellow named James Golden. African-American. Top notch. James left Rush to strike out on his own in internet radio, and they left as friends.
Rush’s first vacation replacement was Dr Walter Williams (I think that was the guy’s name), an African-American. And then there was Armstrong Williams, also an African-American. He picked them both. So there’s no evidence of him not wanting to work or socialize with Black people or give them opportunities.
But his ESPN comments about Donovan McNabb touched the third rail and showed this guy completely lacks common sense and sensitivity when it comes to racial matters. I’m convinced there are some black players – free agents – who would refuse to play for his team.
Rush hates Democrats and folks who support government programs and government intervention. A majority of African-Americans are Democrats, and support government programs. Does that mean Rush hates African-Americans? I say no, but that explains why it’s good for him to show common sense and sensitivity when it comes to matters of race.

I can tell you this from experience. Sometimes people make comments based on ignorance of the group they are talking about. This happens in ALL ethnic communities. I see it in the black community. I have relatives that make generalizations about asians, whites, hispanics and (enter race/ethnos). I don’t laugh or even stay quiet. I confront them with truth. I feel if I don’t then I do my friends of other races/ethnos an injustice.
I do however joke directly with my friends about stereotypes. These friends, I have to let you know, already know that I look at them like brothers. I don’t however play that game with people I don’t know for obvious reasons. I’m rambling now…… Here it is in a nutshell, I don’t keep friends that are racist. Mostly because they know that they can’t play that race crap around me. Ok…I’m off my soapbox because I hate those book sized comments. :)

You’re absolutely right. It’s Republicans and rich people who are the truly persecuted minority in America today. Gawd, how do the poor bastards even make it through the day??

I don't think you hear what she's saying
It’s one thing to be persecuted. It’s another to persecute and claim that you are being persecuted when you really aren’t. I have relatives that play that card all the time. And I tell them we are all family, but I have to call you out….you are full of it!

Alex Jones? Seriously?
If you’re buyin’ what he’s sellin’ you might be a wee bit gullible imho.
Never take ANY conspiracy theory at face-value. Nothing wrong with looking deeper into everything, but don’t assume that anyone is “right” just because they’re “popular”. If anything, the opposite is more likely true.
Just my two cents on conspiracies and their conspiring researchers…

Im a big fan.
I understand your point, but yes. Ive done plenty of research into many of the problems that face us. Such as the coming full fledge Depression, the Federal Reserve and Global enslavement. I dont find them to be a conspiracy as much as whats actually going on these very interesting days.
I just figured id throw my two cents in considering the topic was slightly political and I enjoy speaking politics or dicussing certain views. I find the websiter to be pretty enlightening most of the time.
with that said Many of my family consider my views to be “fring” lol and thats EXACTLY wher I find myself. The many masses are unaware of the false left/right Paradiegm (sp) so I figured why not throw it out there to all my fellow Steeler fan/ friends to see if any of them may have the same view but are tired of being fed lies by the corporate media.

Of All the...
Really good and thoughfull posts about the actual game of football on this site and this one gets so many passionate comments.
The question for me is: Is he a football person? If he is good for the team he is buying, then I say yes, let him in. If he is bad for the team and the NFL, I say no, keep him out.
At first glance I think he might be too controversial to be associated with the NFL. the NFL would be taking a big chance at alienating one group of fans or the other.

I agree
The NFL in all likelihood will not allow Rush into the league. At the end of the day Political Correctness rules and that will be the reason why Rush Limbaugh will not be an owner. It sucks but its true.

What I was referring to when i said "It sucks" is how much of an influence Political Correctness
has and that is going to be what determines Rush Limbaugh’s fitness as a potential NFL owner. I apologize if the previous post wasn’t clear.

For a commercial enterprise, nothing wrong with political correctness
I don’t think it should be legislated by the league office or demanded by the public, but whether you agree with Rush or not, it is clear that he is a magnet for controversy and having him be connected to the team would be detrimental to the team’s success. Despite his legions of fans, would Coca Cola or McDonalds want him as a spokesman? No.
Someone within this group that is seeking to purchase the Rams should recognize that Rush would be a liability. Not because I say so or Keith Olbermann or Roger Goodell, but because it’s a fact that, again, someone within this group should gather a bit of common sense and recognize. But hey, if they’re dumb enough to keep him in and it’s the best offer, I hope that they get the team and have the opportunity to prove everything that I just said in this post is completely wrong.

"Polamalu’s lineage can be traced through several roots. Chuck Norris mated with an Amazon Queen, and on the other side, Tony Hawk mated with Mother Nature. The two children of these spawned and fused in a tantric love session to create Troy Polamalu. The mother however died as he tore through the birth canal with a spin move."

Both
This one goes as most do here. Some serious, some joking. While it may be worth yacking about a bit when you write a post telling people how they should think and making statements that simply can’t be backed up because nobody can say for sure whether it would have a negative impact or not, this is what generally happens. Just like everyone said , whoever signed Vick was going to have a huge fan backlash from all the dog lovers(for the record I have two that I love very much) that really panned out didn’t it. The bigger story would be why in America are we even discussing that an individual would not be allowed to buy a business because of their political views. As long as he doesn’t use the team to express his political views, what is the issue. One more for the record, I think he is an ass and can’t stand him but still doesn’t influence his buying a team or not.

There is no anger here
Although I was actually thinking on the drive home that it could come across like that. That is what I get for typing when in a hurry(need to take my own advice and think things through a litte) that is not to say I didn’t mean what I said but could have been gentler about it. Curiousg87, there is a difference between stating an opinion and point blank telling people how to think because that is how you think. I sensed you were a little frustrated that you post wasn’t being taken serioulsy and was just trying to tell you why it wasn’t. I also added an opinion or two of my own which I stand by.

we should be open to talks like this. whats the big deal? opinions and points of view are healthy imo

At the end of the day...
the NFL is a business. How many times have we heard players and coaches alike say that? If Rush Limbaugh has the money to be involved in buying a franchise he should have the opportunity to do so, regardless of his political beliefs. It is amazing that a league that has reinstated felons and drug users, and glorifies all sorts of egotistical malcontents in the guise of “second chances” would even consider the idea of banning a potential minority owner based on his political opinions. The absurdity of that logic amazes me. In a culture of giant egos and giant wallets, what’s one more? Also, consider that if by some chance new ownership that includes Rush manages to turn the team around and create a winning culture fans of the team won’t care what Rush bloviates about. On the other hand, if they still end up stinking, they will blame it on him. And George W., of course.

Respectfully disagree with your premise....
You’re right that the NFL is a business, and that’s why they should carefully decide who can buy their franchises. Khaddafi has enough money to buy a franchise, but it would be crazy for a business that depends totally on public support to allow him to buy one of the 32 franchises. A lot of folks with drug money or other rackets money might have enough in hundred dollar bills to buy a franchise, but that doesn’t mean you’d sell them one.
Not that Limbaugh compares to Khadaffi or some drug dealer (he’s actually a buyer, not a seller), it’s just the premise that anybody who has the money should be able to join the company of the NFL franchise owners is something I don’t subscribe to.
The League owners should decide whether Limbaugh’s potential ownership comes with too many downsides. If it does, it is their prerogative to say no. It it doesn’t, it is their prerogative to say yes. And they can take labor relations issues into account, especially with a major contract battle looming.
I would kill everyone in this room for a drop of sweet beer.

Mark Cuban...
Wasn’t allowed to buy the Cubs, not because of political belief, but because of personality. He can be abrasive, cuts right to the point, and speaks his mind regardless of the topic or crowd.
Sound familiar? Maybe it’s not his political beliefs, as much as his personality combined with his public forum. Just a thought, I mean not everything is political.
