I just about had a heartattack
I don't know how many of you are signed up for the Steelers text message news letter but for today youd hope you werent.
In the middle of chem today I get a text saying how Aaron Smith could have a "significant" shoulder injury. Well guess what!? Come home, check nfl.com and they say that he has a partially torn rotator cuff. This means that he could either be out for 3 months if he has surgery or miss less time if he doenst opt for surgery but risk his career. Overall this just flat out sucks. Anybody remember the last time we lost him for amount of time? Oh 2007 that was such a great year. Honestly though who the hell is supposed to replace him? Ziggy Hood? He's neither ready nor a defensive end. Travis Kirschke? I think hes a decent player...but he's a backup for a reason...Tyrone Carter anyone? Seriously i'm starting to believe in the freakin madden curse. Just when Polamalu comes back Smith gets hurt. If there's any two players that are more of a force on our team its those two. Thats so ironic too because the announcers last game were talking about how underrated Smith is. Are we ever going to catch a break? Pitch in and say if we will actually survive this year and who can step up for Smith. If I dont answer its because I drowned myself.

Statistically Im scared
luckily I’m horrible with stats. Feels like we just traded getting Troy back for losing Smith.
Atleast he could be healthy in time to back back during our playoff run. I’d rather lose him now and get it over with

If Smith is unable to go this week or beyond, Tomlin is looking at a group effort to fill the void, a group that includes Travis Kirschke, who suffered tightness in his back against the Lions, Nick Eason, who was inactive for the game, and rookie No. 1 pick Ziggy Hood, who has seen some playing time but is still a work in progress.
"He has played in just about every football game," said Tomlin of Hood. "He has played on special teams in some games; he has had more defensive snaps in others. He played a pretty significant portion of the game this week. He is a young guy who is on the come. He has a lot of talent. He is not out of the oven yet, if you will, and we acknowledge that. He acknowledges that. As long as we continue to do that he will move in the right direction. He will continue along those lines in terms of participation. By no means is Ziggy Hood a potential replacement for Aaron Smith at this point. It will probably be a committee of bodies to try and fill that void."

Here's to hoping the really jump into the playbook
These guys need to know the scheme inside and out, especially when they’re rotating in and out.

wow this sucks... a lot
did this news just get out? i’m surprised there isn’t more coverage about this on BTSC. well anyway ziggy’s gonna have to step up in a major way, hopefully he has the 3-4 DE thing down a little bit. but even if he doesn’t he’s just gonna be thrown out into the fire… it worked out okay for ben.
but then again, aaron smith is obviously a much bigger loss than tommy maddox was.

also pitt3639
i just noticed we have a lot in common haha. i was born down in ft. lauderdale and took after my dad’s pittsburgh sports teams as well. i never caught on to the pirates though because i don’t get their games down here in florida obviously, so i just stick with the home town marlins since i can watch all their games. didn’t work out too bad since i got to see florida win a WS in 2003, and not to mention the pirates have unfortunately terrible for the most part of my lifetime.

I rather...
Have Ziggy learn on the move and give him an opportunity, he was a 1st round draft pick for a reason

Ziggy Hood? He’s neither ready nor a defensive end.
If he isn’t a DE what is he?

Being from FL doesn't mean I'm a Gator
Matter of fact I don’t like any team in Fl (at this moment). I have no allegience to any of my states current teams.
Although Percy Harvin is looking good
