Power Of The Towel

I said it in one of my posts: The Titans may want to do something to make it up to The Terrible Towel. They may even be considering it at this point. Well, the media has finally caught on:

This is a tough issue to tackle in the open. The superstitions of grown men pertaining to sports. Here, specifically football. I find myself debating what pittsburgh garb I'm going to wear every Sunday to watch the game. I know in my heart that what I wear directly affects the outcome of the game.

The Troy Polomalu Pro Bowl jersy - Good. The 2005 AFC championship shirt - Bad.

A friend gave me a Terrible Towel a couple of years ago (My first), but I had to move and just found it a couple of weeks ago. Where do I put it for the game? Should I hold it? Should I lay it over the back of my chair. The Towel is powerful ju-ju, so I don't want to make a mistake that could cost the Steelers a game or a player his health.

Please advise.

I keep mine

draped over my floor speakers which are next to my TV. Year round I might add. Of course, I must have about ten of ’em by now. For some reason, I am compelled to buy one each year when I go to a game. Shoot, they are only 7-8 bucks and the proceeds go to charity so WTF, eh?

During the game...

During the game I wear mine tucked over the front of my belt buckle like a Quarterback, only taking it off to wave for scores and turnovers. After the game, it gets neatly folded and tucked into my Steelers Christmas stocking that I hang in my closet.

I don't believe in these silly superstitions...

but I wear my amber earrings that look like the steelers logo, just in case…

I had my Terrible Towel handy for the Superbowl, but I’m saving it for a momentous game this season.

Yes, therapy and THEN find the appropriate, critical location for the Towel....

It’s very, very important. Each person must find the location as an individual keeper of the Towel. Remember; the Towel is not a device of “evil”. It’s like the Glenda the Good Witch in the Wizard of Oz. It means no harm…but don’t piss it off either or you’re toast!

Sure we all need therapy, but...

In every game, i will take all the steelers related stuff i have, (caps, jerseys, t-shirts, backpacks, my son baby pijamas, etc.) and arrenge them around the TV. And to give the other team a bad bibe, i use the current mini-helmet as an ashcan. this are from a promotion from a local icecream company here in Mexico.

Just hang it over your shoulder

that’s what I’ve done since Tomlin signed, seems to be working well—except for the Jacksonville game in the playoffs a couple years ago

Superstitions are completely normal people.

I hate to admit this but I always hated the Terrible Towel, until,

2005 and for some reason decided I needed one in my Man Room on a towel bar. Never got it but still plan to. Which describes pretty well my Jersey’s and stuff I haven’t gotten around to getting yet.

i have my towel

by my side during the game. However during the week leading up to the game, I will never be seen without a hat or, shirt on. Thats my superstition.

Which Towel?

I keep a “Show” towel, (six-time champs) on display on the piano bench at all times during the season. I also keep the “utility” towel (my oldest,10+ yrs old) folded and put away until game-time, then tuck it in my back pocket until the clock says 0:00. Also, I don’t wash it till after the season is over (don’t want to wash off the mojo).

good question

I keep the SB XL towel on display at all times; the SB XLIII one is draped over my shoulder during games, and on display in my Steeler room during the week; the others (much older, one is about 12 years old) are always hanging on the walls in the Steeler room….I should probably post some pics of my Steeler room here someday, people always tell me it’s one of the best they’ve seen

My towel...

Have had it since I went to the Lions Steelers game in 05, just before we won the SB…

It carried us to a magical run. And I keep it with me still. Its here now in Peru. Its been to Cusco and sits by my side during the games I watch here.

I usually have it draped over the armrest on the couch, or clenched tightly in my hand. Or sometimes covering my face when I’m scared.

My Towel

Is in the same place on my dresser unti game time. Then it is placed by my side until the game is over. Never washed until the season ends…ever. And to think my wife thought it was a dishtowel once….oh the horror!
