How the Browns beat the Steelers.
Just laying out a scenario.
Aaron Smith is out. Troy is out. The Browns best aspect of their team is the O-Line. They pull what Detroit did the second half the whole game, control the ball eat clock wear down a no longer deep D-Line. Exploit the rookies when they have to play and keep Ben and the offense out of rhythm.
This would give them a very good chance of pulling the upset. if we can't get things going on offense and let's say Ben gets a pick six, or Rodgers blocks a kick and they return it, or Cribbs get a big one, they can win this game.
With Aaron and Troy, this game is laughable. Without them this is the weakest defense we've put out in a long long time. Sonny and Ziggy aren't ready to stuff a determined running game, and Jamal Lewis is smart enough to make the most of it. Besides he always runs well against us.

Your scenario only works
if the Steelers who are playing don’t step up like champs. We certainly expect no less of them.

If rain ends by gametime, Browns won't get needed turnovers
The Browns need us to fumble a couple times and probably throw a couple interceptions also. The Steelers giving up 3 turnovers for scores in 3 straight games is likely historic. If the rain ends by gametime the Browns have little chance of getting these turnovers.

Troy P
is playing, no?
The only managing Ben does is he manages to WIN games

I hope not.
I’m not counting chickens, but I don’t want to risk the health of one of our two most valuable defensive players now that the other is gone for the season – especially not against a team that has fewer offensive touchdowns than the Sahara has ski resorts.

Cleveland Plain Dealer
Front page of the sports section in Cleveland yesterday had a blowup picture of Troy inset with the headline, “Look who’s back!” General consensus up here is that he will be back. For once I can’t seem to find any Browns fans who feel they have a shot this weekend. Can’t say I disagree, but it’s no fun having no one to argue with about the game. Thats what being a Cleveland Steeler fan is all about!

Correction:
“That’s what being a Pittsburgh Steelers fan living in Cleveland is all about.”
I know…minor…but last I checked the Cleveland Steelers don’t exist, even in Pop Warner. :)

Correcting the Correction
I’ve always liked the term Cleveland Steeler. I moved up here in 1995 from Butler, so from 1996 to 1999, all they showed were Steelers games on Sundays, much to the dismay of the Browns fans up here. But I know I certainly loved it. For thosw\e 3 years I was a Cleveland Steeler and have used used that title ever since.

check out Blitzburgh's post on "Cleveland By The Numbers"
…posted yestersay, if I’m not mistaken.
According to the numbers, and just the numbers alone, it seems highly unlikely.
Take into account that the numbers are now epresentative of 5 weks of football, I think they do without question show the personality and potential of a team, for the most part.
I know you don’t believe that the scenario you are laying out is really possible in the real world, but I understand where you’re coming from. We have games littering our past as well as games from the NFL throughout its history of games that were “gimme’s” becoming dogfights and eventually losses. So I’m with you on that aspect…but….
Nope. Not this week. :)

Worst defense in a long time?
- overall in the league? I know they are not like last year, but I still think they are pretty solid.

No, I’m saying without Troy or Aaron, the Steelers Defense would be the weakest the Steelers have put out in a long time.
Apparently Troy is playing, I hope he’s 100%.

They Clowns barely beat the Bills by 3. It’ll be a dogfight if we dont play like champions

Not that we have to play our best game...
Just that a defending SB champion should make short work of a team like Cleveland.

Defending Champs usually don’t play like Champions. That’s why there are so few repeats. If you could play the same way 2 seasons in a a row there would be a lot more.
It’s a new season and this is not the same team that won the Super Bowl, just like the Steelers of week 5 last year were a different team than the one that won the Super Bowl.

3-2
I hear you skippy. You’re like me. We don’t underestimate anyone. Like you I think the Steelers will win but understand there ain’t no gimme games. It’s the NFL. If the Steelers don’t bring their A game, on any given Sunday…

Was gonna say 9-6, but
I think you’re right: 3-2. Probably Bruce Arians decides to “get greedy” again, Ben throws a pick to kill a promising drive, and also gets sacked once scrambling around in the end zone. Skippy saves the day as time expires. Steelers drop to next-to-last in power rankings. IMHO!

The only problem with this scenario is...
Considering the current state of affairs, we need this game more than they do…
With Smith now out for the year, the Defense will be up for this matchup.
They understand that this is a division game and that we are 0-1 in the division as of right now.
And last time I checked, our offense is still quite healthy and capable of putting up @ least 3 TDs on any defense, let alone the Browns.
If this game is even remotely close I’ll be shocked…

second half of last week man, if Ben can’t find a rhythm because the other team is dominating ToP, it can get ugly.
Why this won’t happen: our run game will show up and when we run well Ben plays great.

And.......
Mangini wakes up and realizes he isn’t in NY anymore. Back to reality, no gimmes but the browns are a mess except on special teams, they punt team was exceptional against Buffalo. Nine punts give you plenty of practice though.

If Ariens
gets loopy again, as he did in the second half in Detroit, things could get ugly, the Browns pass defense isn’t too shabby. But if we run the ball they have a tough time stopping us. So, Bruce, run the damn ball, OK?
My heros have always been Steelers...

Come on... Really?
OK, Troy is a Super Star. Smith is a really solid guy — who we have played without before.
But even with those two off of the team, do you think the rest of the guys — including Defensive player of the year James Harrison — aren’t as good as the defense that the Bills put on the field?
Now, are you saying that Ben and the Offense (who by the way are looking terrific) aren’t going to score a touchdown against the Browns?
I think a touchdown is all it takes to win this game…

Yeah. . . we’ve played without Smith before, our Defense went from all-world to the trash heap. We play better without Troy than we do without Aaron.

In other related news
Ocho Stinko bought the rest of the Bengals unsold tickets so the Dayton/Cincy area will not be blacked out. Darn him! They were going to show the Steelers/Browns if the blackout was put into effect.

This may be the first time I kind of like Chad Johnson...
I guess if you’re a Steelers fan in that market it sucks, but that is the kind of thing I’d like to see from a member of my favorite team if I was a fan in that situation. Luckily I don’t think I’ll ever have to worry about that because my team draws crowds. How can you be a first place team in your division and still not sell out your own stadium?

and then ben gets a concussion missing a couple weeks. parker and mendenall get injured. holmes is suspended for 4 games for getting caught with weed, again while ward goes down with a career ending injury. and we miss the playoffs with a record of 9-7.
obviously all these things can happen, just like the steelers can lose to the browns. it’s why you play the games because you never quite know what will happen. but grow a pair and have some faith in your team.
