Facts about the Vikings top two threats
Steelers vs Vikings! Take my word for it, Steelers win this one. Steelers are at home on this one. Big Ben is 9-1 against the NFC at home. The Vikings D is without their top CB, who is arguably their best player in the secondary. Ben will shred this D through the air. Only if Arians stays smart and does not leave Starks 1-1 with Allen. I'm not worried about the Williams sisters getting after Ben. He can outrun or elude both of them with ease. Its set in stone that our O will outmatch their D with our playmakers. The question is how will our D stop their O?

Brett Favre is 2-2 as a starter against the Steelers in his career. More importantly, he is 0-1 when playing in Pittsburgh. And he has only seen this version of Lebeaus D once before, in 2005. In his only game against this ferocious 3-4 D, he lead his team to a lost. He was 20 of 35(57.1%), with no TDs and 63.3 QB rating. But his performance was actually worst. He threw a pick, was sacked twice, and lost a fumble that led to 7 points. This D has only got faster and meaner since 05. And Brett has gotten older and slower since. If the young Brett couldn't get it done against Lebeau, I don't see how the old one will.

Peterson wants to be remembered as the best to ever play the game. I believe he will retire as "one of the best", but not the best ever. But all great RBs in history have one thing in common, a great D could shut them out on any given day. Eddie George was never a factor against the Ravens. Ladanian Tomlinson is never a factor against the Steelers. The list goes on... And Peterson is no different. Peterson has faced this exact same 3-4 D just once, pre-season of 08 in Pittsburgh. How did he fair? He rushed 12 times for 21 yards(1.8 ypc), with 1 TD. His longest rush was 6 yards. He caught 3 passes for 11 yards, and no TDs. His longest reception was 4 yards. He was a non factor for the short time he played our starters on D. I don't see that changing this Sunday.

Steelers D will bring the Vikings O down, faster than Timmons brings down Peterson in the picture above. The final score will be something like: Steelers 28-Vikings 17. Lets go Steelers!!

I love...
… the pic of Timmons! Hopefully we’ll be seeing a lot of that on Sunday.
Wow...
OK, ignoring the “If your a Steelers fan…” (it should be You’re).. and about thirty other things your 10th grade English teacher would have a fit over…
A couple of things about your football posts…
Yes, the 2005 defense beat up on the packers, but you cannot compare that team with the 2008 Vikings. The 2005 Packers were a bad team. They finished with a 4-12 record. There was no Adrian Peterson on the team, and Favre basically had to try to win every game with his arm.
That is not the situation this year.
And as for Great Running backs always being shut down by great defenses… um… not really. That’s why they are great running backs. (OJ Simpson went off for 182 yards against the Steel Curtain, for example…)
The Steelers can shut down AP. I don’ t know if they will. But they can. But he could also go off for 140 yards against us. All it takes is one good run to daylight.
I believe the Steelers will win this one because they generally take car of business at home. But this one is no gimmie.
If Brett stays patient, this game will come down to another 4th quarter nail-biter.
And as for comparing quarterbacks, if Ben throws that slow out pattern one more time for a pick six, we could be in real trouble. (Ben has more interceptions thrown for touchdowns than Favre has interceptions.) If Parker/Logan/Mendenhall put the ball on the ground, it can be real trouble.
In other words, this game will probably be decided by who wins the turnover battle. So far, Brett has been much better than Ben in protecting the football. But, other than the Packers (who were decimated on the O-Line and not prepared for the emotional big stage) and the Ravens (who may or may not be any good this year) they really haven’t played anyone. (Cleveland, Detroit, St. Louis, and SF — who I can’t figure out).
OTOH, who have the Steelers beat? The Titans, who New England just stomped? SD, who is pretty much who we thought they were (which is to say the annual fraud…)
In some ways, this is the first real tests for both teams.
But… You’re dreaming if you think it is gonna be easy (or should I say “your dreaming”)

Yup
I agree completely Mark. I think this game is going to set the tone for the rest of the season. We’ve lost some close ones this season by not being able to put it away in the 4th like we did so well last year. I see it coming down to that, 27-24 Steelers on a last minute field goal.

Maybe a nice brick house with a lot of glass windows…
But there is a huge difference between not using the formal pronoun substitution (which is hardly used anymore) and using the wrong word entirely…
You probably don’t really want to start an English grammar contest though…
You know, I was going to comment...

How are you not worried about Kevin Williams?
You might have a little too much faith in the o-line. Those guys have defintiely gotten better, but no team has been able to consistently block that Vikings front. We are not some unbeatable team. We almost lost to the TITANS!!!!

Nice post
I’d like to point out a few things.
This D has only got faster and meaner since 05. And Brett has gotten older and slower since. If the young Brett couldn’t get it done against Lebeau, I don’t see how the old one will.
There’s no denying that Favre has gotten older and slower, but there is also no denying that he’s playing smarter football and making less wild throws. If you look at his stats from 2005 and compare them to this year, the argument could be made that he is taking much better care of the football and just plain playing better football this year than in 2005.
I don’t see that changing this Sunday.
It was pre-season. I guess a game is a game, but I seems to me that using stats from a pre-season game from a different year altogether to draw conclusion from for the regular season could potentially be a little misleading.
All that said, this is the Vikings toughest game to date. The Steelers are an incredibly solid team. This is 1 of 2 Vikings games that I’m going to this year, unless a post-season opportunity presents itself. I am looking very forward to it.
You want to meet up with some Steeler fans?
We don’t bite. A lot of us will be there.

I'm going with 3 Steelers fans
One of them who is a native of Pittsburgh and whose folks still live there. I’m sort of at the mercy of what they want to do, but I will pitch it to them and let them know. Let me know what you were thinking.
A bunch of us are meeting at Gate A
I will be wearing a Steeler coat. :)

That and...
Peterson has faced the 3-4 three times this year. Green Bay held him to under 100 yards. He went for 180+ yards against Cleveland and 130+ yards against Baltimore.
Two outta three ain’t bad. It is hard to make a argument that “AP is bad against the 3-4” stick … at least to any reasonable observer…
San Fransisco also runs a 3-4

Good points
Peterson does seem to really put effort into those preseason games so i’m hesitant to play the “its a preseason game” card.
Favre has managed to look amazing but we all know he has limits when he faces a tough opponent. So far he hasn’t had a superb defense in his face.
Blitzburgh’s been on the way back too.
I'm not contending
That Favre doesn’t have limits. I’m just saying that where he’s slowed down some perhaps he’s made up with better game management skills. That and he has the best RB in football behind him.
Also, I’m not hesitant to play the preseason card at all. It is preseason, and for many reasons it is not at all indicative of the regular season.
This sunday is the beginning of the end for favre...he will be battered and
will start his decline for the season….by december he’ll be completing probably 54 percent of his passes. There is a reason 40 year old guys don’t generally hang around in the NFL. The physical toll will start showing this sunday.
overaged, undertaken lol

RE-SIGN GREG LLOYD!!!!!!
Tell him it’s the preseason.
Seriously, does anyone else remember that hit, it’s still one of my favorite football memories.
I have to agree.....
I’m not scared of the Williams sisters either, i think Ben could shrug them off racket or no.
But those Williams brothers, they are scary……….sure Ben can outrun them but thats assuming hes at top speed and knows exactly where they are………
besides, they are there to stop Mendy, Willie, and MeMo……………..Allen is there to stop Ben.
Best hit ever
The best hit I recall is in 83 when the Browns qb, Brian Sipe (it was his last NFL game as he announced he was going to the USFL the next season) was running down the sideline, juked like he was going out of bounds and Jack Lambert lit him up. Lambert’s quote: “Brian has a chance to go out of bounds and he decides not to. He knows I’m going to hit him. And I do. History.” I looked on Youtube for a clip of this hit, but no luck. If anyone can locate this film, please let us know. BTW, there are clips on Youtube of Lambert dumping Cliff Harris (who still is a punk!) on his head in the SB.

I read somewhere...
… that after this hit a lot of Browns players run over to Lambert and beat him up. Is it true? If true, then why Steelers players didn’t rush for help?
