Game plan obervations
Is it me, or is it the OC? Why didnt BB throw down field more? When he did he found open receivers. Do they lack confidence in our O-Line? They did seem to protect him well enough against a great D Line. Why didnt BB run the no huddle more? The game plan sucked, plain and simple..We saw the unibrow torch them for almost 4ooyds! Didnt they watch the game film? Granted, the rat birds have, at this point a better O-line, but the unibrow got sacked 3 times also..Isnt it time for BB to take this team away from BA and do what we do best? We palyed right into minny hands and it almost cost us! Minny had a very low rated pass defense and gave up loads of yardage and we didnt exploit it!

There is a reason 99.9% of all analysts are guys
Oh no!! Did I really say that?
On your fist point, yes, it’s you.
Ben took what the Vikings were giving him. Besides that, he wasn’t particularly sharp yesterday. It happens, perhaps his off field distractions were getting to him a bit. His second attempt to dismiss the assault charges was refused Friday.
As for the open receivers, he went down field when there was someone to throw to.
As for confidence in the O-line, I think it is fairly obvious that the coaching staff has the utmost confidence in this unit.
Concerning the no huddle. The problem with the no huddle is whether or not it is successful, it puts the opposing offense back on the field rather quickly. Something you definitely do not want to do against a big play offense like the Vikings. And, it also puts your defense back on the field, their job is difficult enough and doing it well requires a break ever so often.
As for leading the team away from BA. What are you suggesting, mutiny? This is a team and BA is the coordinator for the team that won a Lombardi Trophy last year.
What we do best is win football games, and by whatever means are necessary. Or as Coach Tomlin has repeatedly put it, “situational football”.
On the Vikings low rated pass defense. Clearly no one told the Vikings. They game planned well for us this week and threw some things out there that we had not prepared for. It happens, it’s called proffesional football.

I was talking about Juan da Baptist. It doesn’t really matter if it was a joke or not. He made such a gigantic deal out of people using “bad” language in the game thread yesterday that I HAD to call him out.

As for you, moron
I was watching the game yesterday and posting with my 12 year old daughter by my side. She is a huge fan and enjoys getting into the game with her old man. She also gets into the posts here and has learned a lot about football from some of the more enlightened on this site, yourself not included.
I don’t recall whining but rather asking nicely if maybe we could clean up the language. I think I mentioned more than once that there were women and children in here. Instead of an apology or any attempt to clean up the language we were hit with a flury of additional F bombs and some nonsense about free speech. If you read my Limbaugh piece you know that I am all for free speech. I am also however for self censorship and having a little class. Something you obviously know nothing about.
I can accept the possibility that my comment above was a bit out of line, although I personally think that some folks are just way to uptight about all the wrong things. However I may feel about it, when confronted I am man enough to adjust my behavior if need be and make the necessary amends. You should take a lesson.
by Juan da Baptist on Oct 26, 2009 9:24 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
“More enlightened on the site”? Dude it was a game thread for football. When something goes wrong, what am I supposed to shout? “BUTTERFLIES!” Doubtful, a profanity or two generally comes out. And I don’t see a problem with it.
I am not for self censorship in a game thread for football. I use censorship and class when I am in the appropriate setting, like my job or with family. But online on a football thread? Not really. To me it’s a Sunday and I want to unwind a bit and not have to watch every word that I say.
Anyway, it’s not like my comments were “f, f, f, f, f, f, f, f this”. And honestly, if I want to say god damn or exclaim “Jesus” that is my own prerogative and really none of your business.

Why don’t you provide some for your question. Otherwise I will be left to presume that the context of which you speak is the mutual enjoyment of a sporting event. In which case I would have to put the emphasis on “mutual”, as in shared by all. Good post!
I think our lack 3rd down conversions were the biggest problem yesterday and there were a host of reasons (bad passes, dropped passes, etc). We’ve been pretty good in that regard the last several weeks, yesterday we weren’t. I like what I’ve seen from this offense this year and think there is still room for improvement, especially in the consistency department. Looking forward to the big matchup with Denver after the bye to see some of that improvement on the field!

So it was an off field distraction?? Non-sense! He might have been off, but you cant disregard the fact that when ben ran the no huddle, we scored our ONLY offensive TD! We have to play to our strenght! What happened to the “bunch” formation? The best way to play the vikes, is to “spread” them out! It seems to me that the game plan was the short pass! Juan
certainly comes off as a cad but he’s right about one thing. Ben took what the vikes gave him and it wasn’t much. Their DBs get kudos for defending our passing game. Ben has more success with the no-huddle because we use it sparingly. If we used it alot, they would adjust. I used to be more of a BA hater but I’m thankful he’s turned Ben loose this year.

I'm fascinated
Juan makes one tongue in cheek comment, and everyone comes down on him for sexism, yet a few games ago nycsteelersfan proudly announces her intention of showing off her knockers to anyone who wants a peek if the Steelers lose. Talk about hypocrisy?
If we were going to be consistent, then we would have told nyc to cut that crap out, but I didn’t see much of that. By the way, if we are going to get offended for every little percieved slight then we are pretty sad, huh? There is nothing wrong with what Juan said, if you understand the context. He clearly wasn’t pointing to all female fans, just ones with irrational, dimwitted views. That bieng said, his analysis of the game was pretty spot on, and I’m glad we got the win against a very quality opponent.

double overreaction
johnny overreacting to juan who overreacts to johnny.
rinse, wash, repeat.
i wasn’t there on the game thread but there appear to be no rules against profanity here (i see it all the time) so whose judgment is in question – the user who types the profanity or the user who lets his 12 year old daughter participate on a thread where profanity is likely to appear? it’s not like the other users can see your child is there, and even so, you’re asking the community to adhere to your standards when there are otherwise no rules that say they should.
otoh, in this thread it really looks like juan was joking. and the party that might have been offended said she wasn’t. no harm, no foul. either way he got rebuked by the site moderator so let’s give it a rest, maybe?

I’m aware that there are no rules against profanity on this site, at least I have never heard of any. But there are likewise no rules against asking someone nicely to tone it down a bit. When it became clear that I was in a room with a few too many classless basement dwellers who lacked vocabulary as well as self control, my daughter and I found something better to do.

Rule #9 of BTSC
bq. Let’s try not to resort to name calling when we disagree with others points
For a guy who considers himself the class of society, why do you keep resorting to calling me a “classless basement dweller” and a “dipstick”? That is pretty hypocritical of you to have to resort to name calling.
I just went back and looked at the entire 1st half game thread. I said 0-5 curse words, depending on what your definition of profanity is. Those being bastard, dammit, damn, dammit, and “effing” (I said “effing” not the actual ‘F’ word). Not a single time did I say the ‘F’, ‘S’, ‘B’ words or any of the other “bad” ones.
You jumped on me for saying “god dammit” which is again, my own prerogative and none of your business. Once you made the outcry about curse words, I simply laughed at a guys smart ass reply to your comment. I was not even using profanity, but since it is not your site and you do not get to set rules, I objected to your ideas of what can and cannot be said here. I still stand behind that.
I am glad you and your daughter found something better to do, and I hope you keep that in mind for the game thread against the Broncos.

i guess the thing is
you don’t see the irony in using the word “classless” while you have now routinely resorted to name calling. it’s not like you couldn’t have made your point in a way that actually did show class. it’d be a heck of a lot easier for everyone else to agree to your point, i think.

It’s more the hypocrisy of some people. I tend not to agree with her observations, but she’s welcome to make them. I would just say that if a site is going to allow the type of sexual flaunting she put forward, then it should be real careful to label and rebuke others as sexist for fairly innocent comments. In my book it’s by far a more sexist situation to turn a blind eye to a woman who’s attempting to tittilate the masses by acting like a stripper.

Two Cents Worth
Attempting to add humor is often a hit-or-miss proposition.
Blurting out profanity (such as yelling at the TV screen) or using it in casual conversation, however, is a bad habit that one acquires (I do it). But it is also a habit which is usually controlled, depending on the context.
Typing 4 (or more) letters on a keyboard, with the result being a profane word, is a conscious choice and has no place. If you can type profane words and spell them correctly, you have enough intelligence to make your point without them.
