Pro Bowl voting
I guess Pro Bowl voting started, so I figured everyone could use a little reminder. It would be nice to see some more offensive players get to the Pro Bowl this year. Also, our Defense might need a little help this year, though maybe not if they every game like the Vikings. So get out there and vote, or you'll be spat upon by your entire town and forced into exile bound on a donkey.
Of course, if everything goes the way we hope, I don't think coach Tomlin would risk our star players one week before the Super Bowl. I do think that is strange to have the game one week before the Super Bowl, but I guess it could really use the ratings.

Hated to do it...
But I voted for Cribbs as the return guy. Just had to with what he’s done to us….

this is absurd
i can’t believe pro bowl balloting came out already with over half the season left to play. this is exactly why favre was elected last year when there were 3 other clear candidates ahead of him when the voting ended. balloting shouldn’t start for another 4 or 5 weeks.

You shouldn’t apologize for the rant, they should apologize for the ridiculous voting process

Agreed
I think its freaking retarded also. Its totally stupid that we start it halfway through the season. Its the internet age, its not like we have to collect paper ballots and mail forms and stuff like that anymore. We dont need 8 weeks of notice to decide whos the best.
We could do it at week 14 honestly I think would make the most sense. That way any teams playing crapshoot games that they dont care about at the end of the year dont get hurt. But in todays hi-tech age, we can vote in two minutes online, and everybody can do it in a couple weeks time.

No Steelers in the ProBowl this year
Hopefully too busy preparing for the Super Bowl!

Isn’t the probowl after the superbowl….?

Or did they switch it and no one told me?

They switched it...
They asked me to let you know, but I forgot, sorry Johnny, my bad.

They changed it for this year.
They think no one watches after the SB, so the ratings hogs have the wonderful idea if it’s played on the bye week before the big game, people are so hungry for games that the world will watch.
Granted I didn’t watch the Pro Bowl last year, but I sure as hell have the photo with our guys who went.

Pro Bowl
You will not see any players from both SB teams playing in that PB this year. It’s the stupid to put the game prior to the SB. I also believe they brought it to the mainland this year which doesn’t make it really special. Players loved bringing their family and friends away for the trip. I agree vote no Steelers to the PB this year.

Who said that?
Nobody said dont fote them. Poncho was just saying they’ll be too busy preping for the SB44.
You have to figure Hines and Ben make it this year. Off chance maybe Miller too. I doubt any O-line gets recognition although I’d love to see a push for Maxamillion Starks.
And of course Troy should get his, Harrison too. Thats probably it. We’d be lucky to get 4.
And it does matter for the HOF chances of these players. Is it kinda a stupid thing, yes, but it does matter.

Correct
But you bring up a valid point….since Pro Bowl appearances do matter to the selection folks, are the guys that get voted to it, but cant play in it because of the Super Bowl (or injuries, for that matter), still getting their recognition?
by PonchoBrew on Oct 27, 2009 1:11 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah they do
I think they still get counted, and then the alternates get a pro bowl selection too.

Mechem, I have to disagree...
And I know this will be unpopular, but I can’t possibly vote for Troy, as of right now. He’s only played in 2 and a half games. If he plays great for us from here on out, which I believe 100% he will, then I have no problem with it, just not yet.

I can vote for him
Cause I know he is still the best SS in the NFL, and moreso in the AFC. Name one who’s really outplayed him? And name one who will throughout the year?
by Mechem on Oct 27, 2009 2:04 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Just wanted to add
When I said his name on there, I was kinda simply pointing out that he’ll likely get voted in irregardless of his performance. We know he had that one year (06 or 07?) that wasn’t really that great, and got in anyway. Last year he clearly deserved it.
Hes a player that gets in simply because he is a demi-god and will smite the earth with a meteor if you dont vote him in. Thats how powerful he is.
by Mechem on Oct 27, 2009 2:06 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I hear you...
He’s my favorite player, I’d love to see him in the game.
Two guys though. Yeremiah Bell, from Miami, is playing great. Lots of tackles a few sacks I think. And Brandon Meriweather, from New England, has a pick or two, a good amount of tackles and I think a fumble in there somewhere. Whether they can keep it up for the year is debatable though.
I agree with you on the fact he’ll probably get in regardless of performence. Fan voting is BS. Makes it a popularity contest, the “best” player is the name you hear the most. Oh well, please most of the customers I guess.

Forgive me if I am wrong
But don’t nearly all contracts have a ProBowl clause? If you get voted in you get some sort of bonus money, whether you play or not.

Sure some do
I mean idk about nearly all, but certainly there are things to it.
So yeah when I say it matters, it really does.
Its kinda like a civil war re-enactment, it doesnt really DO anything, but its a nice reminder, and it does make an impact on some people… mostly rednecks.

HEATH!!!!!!!
If Miller continues production for the rest of the season at the pace he has so far, it would not be crazy to see him make it. He is a better blocker by far than all of the other “pass-catching” TEs in the AFC.
He will likely get snubbed due to name recognition of guys like Gates and Clark. At least Gonzo left the AFC this year. If you look at Miller’s total game he is killing all of these guys.
"Damnit mom! You almost ran over Greg Lloyd!"
at an autograph signing back in 95. He walked out in front of our minivan, and my mom almost hit him. He apologized.

Roethlisberger has a good chance to make it
if he continues to perform as he has this season (not counting the viking game). He’ll have to be quite good though as there is a log jam of good qbs in the AFC.

There's the Brady slot and the Payton slot...
And then there is one more QB slot for Ben, Carson Palmer, Philip Rivers, and that new guy from Denver :-) to fight over. It makes it kind of tough for everyone else.
