Willie Colon's backup?

This is an odd question, but does anyone know who substitutes for Willie C.?  Has he missed any downs this year?  I know he didn't miss any in 2007.  He started all games in 2008, and must have missed a few snaps, but I can't find anything about who replaced him for those snaps.  If he should be injured for a couple games, who would replace him?  I'm thinking that Essex might slide over and that either Legursky or Urbik would step in at guard.  But maybe a straight substitution would be made.  In that case, would it be Foster?  He played right tackle almost exclusively in college, but he supposedly backs up LG now...  Urbik?  Presumably better than Foster and he played nearly a season at right tackle for Wisconsin (and otherwise played RG).  Surely it's not Legursky?  Whaddya say?

It would be Foster

according to the Steelers depth chart that is posted at this…posting.

I should’ve consulted a depth chart. D’oh!
Anyway, it’s interesting how highly valued Foster is that he gets two backup spots. You’d think maybe Legursky or Urbik would get two spots instead…

Watching the O-line play Sunday, was nothing short of wonderful for me.

Foster is a tackle and can play both tackle positions. Urbik is a G, who I think would only get to play at RG at this point. I think Legursky can play G and C, but they don’t want to put him at T.

Foster for all except C

If you watched the game, Foster, not Legursky, went in when Kemo went down. Urbik and Hills aren’t active on game day, so Foster is the first in at both Guards and RT. If Starks goes down in game, I think Essex would slide over and once again Foster would come in. If it was a bad enough injury, Hills would be active the follwoing week, but I am not sure Hills would be given a chance to beat out Essex. In that case you would be looking at Foster/Legursky fighting during the week to see who would fill in for Essex. Not sure if Urbik would be given a chance there. Hopefully we don’t have to find out any of this as the line is gelling nicely.

correct me if I'm wrong...

but Foster was predicted to go in the early rounds until a senior year injury, which is why we got him as a rookie FA. unless I’m thinking of someone else?

Not wishing an injury on Colon.

.
No. Just interested in who is coming along and who isn’t. Concerning Foster having an injury last year, I haven’t read anything, except that he had a concussion one time. If you look at his combine numbers, they are very unimpressive in every category, which is why I’m fascinated to hear that he dresses and Urbik doesn’t. Gotta root for the guy who has little to work with in terms of physical tools, who plays through pain, and still finds a way. I read that he broke his thumb in a pre-game in 2007 and played that game and the rest of the season. Man it would be nice to see him become useful despite his shortcomings…but he still doesn’t seem like much more than a backup.

Colon is the first and second best tackle in the league. If Colon gets hurts, he is so good that he subs for himself.

In all seriousness though, Colon has never missed a game, which is impressive. Let me go find some wood…

For a while I was thinking that a whole lot of fiber was the solution to our Colon woes last year, but he seems to have straightened out his mental mistakes.

Okay, normally I don’t laugh at other peoples misery, but it fit the context so well. Sorry Nancy.
