Lamarr Woodley will write for SI...he's A WRITER NOW...pretty awesome...check it out here..
So apparantly woodley will be writing articles...or at least he'll be giving his thoughts and someone else will or something like that. anyway heres the link and check what i think after the jump
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/lamarr_woodley/10/08/diary/index.html
I think its nice he's writing...it gives us more of a presence in the national media. time in and time out I always feel like no one talks about us. Mostly because we dont usually have the 'number 1' player in any one position...even in QB(though I disagree) and I think while we may not have the best individuals except for troy or BB I think we have the best corps in each position whether its wide receivers, defensive linemen, lbs, coaching staff etc.
anyway...I think a lot of what he's written is true..but its also plain VANILLA...I dont blame him, he cant really voice his frustrations or opinions or excitment wtihtout giving up too much or giving up bullitin board material.
His positive attitude towards sacks though is pleasing and I think its a good attitude to have. Someone once wrote that woodely is walking the thin line towards greatness and that he can either reach it or walk away from it and that its his choice...
I think with an attitutde like that (if real) then he's on the right path. I think he knows he needs more pass rush moves and Im sure he'll work on it over time. I cant hold it against him if he's on pass coverage all day. I cant hold it against him if they're doing short passes all day so its all good.
also check out the really good link about why he's not getting as many sacks at postgameheroes.com they have a good analysis on it.
please rec!!!!

Wow...
This might be the first time I’ve ever seen anyone ASK for a rec.

Lol
I rec’d just cause you asked….
Anyway its fine by me if he wants to write. My biggest issue is, with the way the NFL fines people for opening their mouths to say the truth, he might get caught saying something inadvertently.
But I doubt it. It seems he knows his boundaries.

REC'ing like I was asked
Haven’t read the article yet, but about to go check it out for what it’s worth.
A couple points, though.
1) " time in and time out I always feel like no one talks about us."
REALLY? It’s funny, but I look on the national media sports outlets (ESPN, FoxSports, etc.) and I see us as much or more often than most teams. And our news is usually regular football-type news, not criminal activity/questionable character stuff.
Being the Super Bowl champion, and one with the most SB hardware ever, kind of makes you sexier to the media. People are talking about us, all the time, everywhere. Just look.
2) “Mostly because we dont usually have the ‘number 1’ player in any one position…”
REALLY?? (Part II)
Troy Polamalu? In a 3/4 defense, NT Casey Hampton? No one better. I’d put Farrior up against anyone, dude is savvy as all get out. Hines Ward as a possession WR? I have no other WR I would rather start a team with, all things included (obnoxious personalities, egos, etc., and those DO count, IMO). I’d rather have no other QB# than #7 behind center, as a Steelers fan, but I would find stiff opposition around the league (and within our own fanbase) as to whether he’s the best at his position.
And yes, someone once did say the line about Woodley walking that line between good and great. The place where you once heard it was here on BTSC about 2 weeks ago or so.
Good memory.
Go Steelers.

nah I think you missed the point on that one…
Im saying we’re not usually ranked number one by the media…not that we actually dont have a number 1 player…
a lot of reporters base it off important but not necessarily meaningful statistics…such as tackles(which is just an indicator of how crappy your team is-year in year out the highest tackling linebackers and cornerbacks are for bad teams-whether its because their defense plays waaay too much or because their defensive scheme is overly dependent on certain positions)
the same goes for wide receiver yards…sure we’re never in the top ten at the end of the year but we also pass it around enough times to make it so.
And yes I do prefer ward over others..but dont tell me you wouldnt love an andre johnson/fitzgerald on our team. who wouldnt?

I sure would
Andre Johnson is a machine….that’s why Albert Pujols tried to downplay that talk on the Sportscenter commercial, he didn’t want to make Andre angry — might get eliminated

I guess I'm in the minority...
But I’d rather have my OLB make tackles and sacks.
Four games- 3 tackles, 1 assisted tackle, 0 sacks. I think this is what LaMarr should spend his time worrying about, not magazine deadlines. “It gives us more of a presence in the national media.” I’d rather have a presence on the left side of the defense, just me.

Maybe it will help him. Perhaps Woodley is a sensitive man who needs to write to get things off his oversized chest. Then he’ll be able to freely sack and attack.
I think he gets some today. We’ve played decent O-lines most of the year so far.

I can see that...
There are some players who need to motivate themselves in less traditional means, so I suppose I shouldn’t have been so quick to hate on it.
I see him getting at least two this week. Not a great RT in Cherilous, and his first return to Michigan since his days at the U of M, should have him on his A+ game… I hope, we’ll see.

haha
yea yea i had that one coming…but seriously, i didnt mean to write it the way i did…
i always post rec if you like at the end…and i was thinknig that as i wrote it..dunno y it came out that way(maybe subconsciously i am needy??? lol)
anyway, i think its pretty good of him to explain that he doesnt have too many sacks and face it as opposed to just ignoring it.
on that note..i feel like a lot of what he’s said adn others say are direct rebuttals to our online conversations whether its on this forum or postgameheroes. Makes me think these guys read the blogs regularly…not just once in a while.

More accountability...
If he is contributing to a publication on a regular basis, it might add to his motovation to push his level of play. Most would rather talk about their 4 sack week instead of explaining “lack” of pressure.

So this is what he's been doing all season
Maybe this explains why he hasn’t been able to apply any pressure on the opposing QBs this year.

lack of sacks...
… by Lamar Woodley through 4 games could be attributed to Aaron Smith’s injury I think. I’ve read that Smith played hurt before Detroit game.
I predict, Ziggy and Lamar going simultaneously in QB’s direction from the right side will get us plenty of sacks by both of them :-)
