Marketing indeed.

He should not even be on the ballot.

I'm sorry...

Can someone tell me why Mike Wallace should be in the Pro Bowl first? And I mean, a real, good reason. And not a homerified made up reason. Michael Crabtree doesn’t deserve to be in, and neither does Mike Wallace. He’s having a good rookie season, but if you think he’s Pro Bowl worthy, than you are the problem with the Pro Bowl.

Vote for the BEST PLAYERS, not you’re team.

What, are you like the hall monitor or something?

I’ll write in freakin Tunch Ilkin for place kicker if I want.

If you're happy bastardizing something that may get players into or out of the Hall of Fame...

Go right ahead.

I never said don't do it McBalls (I like the name by the way)....

(And for what it’s worth, I was having a pretty bad day, and over reacted, my bad.)

I’m just saying recognize that this isn’t just a Pro Bowl. In fifteen years, when some of these guys are getting reviewed for HoF worthiness, they’ll say, “Hmmm… So and so went to the Pro Bowl ____ many times. And He went as a rookie (which has become fairly regualr now too).” And that will change opinions on some players post career.

It has a larger impact than just getting someone into a “meaningless” game.

Look at Bills fans.

They don’t have Jairus Byrd on the ballot to vote for, as far as I can tell.

THAT is an injustice.

I think

they have to be a starter to make the pro bowl ballot

by GDEUCE on Nov 18, 2009 11:27 PM EST reply actions

who freakin cares about the pro bowl anyway?

it’s a popularity contest where people get voted for a lot of times based on what they used to do. It wouldn’t bother this fan one bit if they stopped playing the pro bowl game and just forgot about the whole stupid idea.

by SteelersFnRule on Nov 21, 2009 12:17 PM EST reply actions

It wouldn't be a popularity contest...

If fans voted for the best players at each position that season, and not their own team. Just a thought.

You are assuming that fans know who the best players are.

The Pro-Bowl is supposed to be a popularity contest, that is why they have the fans vote.

The reserves are chosen by coaches who generally throw in the best players the fans left out.

by Phantaskippy on Nov 23, 2009 11:31 PM EST up reply actions

Nope, just the opposite...

I assume the fans don’t know who the best players are, actually I don’t assume that. I’ve come to that conclusion based on Pro Bowl rosters. I don’t think the fans deserve a vote personally. The fans who vote have turned the accolade of a Pro Bowl inclusion into a joke.

It used to be a measuring stick for ability. It’s still used that way by some. It should not be.

So how would you fix it?

by Phantaskippy on Nov 24, 2009 1:06 PM EST up reply actions

Crabtree isn’t his teams third receiver, he starts, that is why.
