Official What to say to shut up Bengals fans thread *Strong Language*

*I put the warning in there for the comments. Dont want anyone getting in trouble at school or work.*

Get ready for hell week boys. The Bungles are coming to town and their fans will be invading our sacred blog. Some of you may need ammunition for the battles ahead in these threads, some just want to post funny jabs at the Bungles. All are welcome after the jump

Star-divide

I like to start with a nice, "Our team has swept your team more years then you have wins on us this decade."

When they bring up the loss in week 3, a reminder of our past dominance is necessary. Let them know that a 3 point come from behind victory one week after 5-6 years of pure dominance does not suddenly make our team their hooker. Quite the opposite. It means one of our bitches got smart and needs to be slapped back into position.

Remember guys, they are who we KNOW they are. Flaky. Lets just hope that as Troy's pounding them into the ground and slapping their receivers with his hair as he streaks past after an interception that none of his Head and Shoulders rubs off on them.

Post your best Bungles rubs. Lets use this thread to remind any Bungles fan coming here who their team really is.

Your jerseys are ridiculous

Ocho Cinco said on the radio this morning that he’d most definitely be playing well into his forties. Uh huh sure. He also said it’s possible because he has so much confidence. Really? Confidence is what keeps a 40 year old receiver running a ten second 40 yard dashes? I don’t think so.

True. They are a very good football team.

The Steelers just beat two very good football teams. Your “very good” isn’t our “very good”. Our “very good” means winning the Super Bowl, yours means beating us in your house.

You’ll see a very different Steelers team this Sunday. We’ll see pretty much what we saw, minus a few key pieces. Peaking in October isn’t the way to the SB…

My heros have always been Steelers...

Seriously. Your idiocy only helps prove my (and every Steelers fans) point about Bungles fans. (Not all, but it does really seem like the majority)

Child please. Our team has always been better.

Come talk after you win your 6th Super Bowl and have one of the most storied franchises in sports history.

Is this really necessary?

This is why I have such a hard time respecting so many Steeler fans. The players on the field will do the talking, and nothing you have to say will effect the outcome at all. In the event that the Bengals win, you just look stupid for bringing up history, as many NFL fans do, to predict the future.

How about, instead of worrying about smack talk and Bengals fans invading your “sacred” blog for a team that is notorious for nation-wide bandwagon fans (you call it a national following, I call it bandwagoning. Same difference), you just use the week to be productive at work, read about the injury reports, and have some fun until Sunday’s game.

Remember, even if you win this game, you’re only 1-1 against the Bengals this season with 7 games of football left to play.

Personally, I think this will be an excellent football game. I’m sorry that Steeler fans are too arrogant to appreciate the potential for this Sunday, instead focusing on how to get Bengals fans to shut up, feeling compelled to patronize and disrespect thousands of individuals they’ve never met. Why does this seem to be such a recurring theme? If we’re so bad, shouldn’t you not be threatened by us in the first place, thus not have to write silly blogposts about “how to shut” us up? You’re either scared that you’ll lose the division or a pathetic individual that hides not only behind sports, but uses the distance created by the internet to insult others because they have a different viewpoint than yours.

All I’m saying is, only 8 teams in football have less than two losses. The Bengals and Steelers are two of those teams. We may or may not be the best team in the NFL, but this is a regular season game between two teams with identical records. The Steelers may have an advantage – it’s hard to beat another team twice in a year, and it’s hard to win on the road – but that doesn’t mean this weekend is a forgone conclusion. For your own sake, I hope you realize that.

I stayed classy and un-troll-like. Sure I sent a few jabs at them, but you obviously dont know Who-Dey. Just because its our teams doing the battle, does not mean I dont consider this week one giant battle against Cincy fans. The majority I meet or see online are WAY more arrogant and annoying and trollish then any Steeler fan.

You need to lighten up and realize not everyone gives a shit about your level of expectation from the rest of us. Some of us can actually take some shit talk and not be little girls about it.

Guess that's where we're different.

I just don’t see the point in the exercise of talking shit. It doesn’t impact the game, and doesn’t impact me personally. That’s why I ask the question – is it really necessary? You get some naive fans to bite and let you pull them into your trolling trap, and gang up on them… but that’s about it.

Too arrogant to appreciate?

Here is the thing you are missing, sir. The fact that members are actually writing about this game, is a testament to your football club. This game has meaning for the first time in several years. I mean you’re right, we don’t need to make post about how to shut ya’ll up. The steelers will do that sunday. We on the other can talk about how the steelers will get that done. But first, one of the best things about sports is being able to talk smack. But I guess you don’t like that because you’ve been on the wrong end of the smack talk too many times. But thats understandable. But lets get to the point of the game,

A. You will not run on us like you did the ravens.
B. Troy will be back and this defense is elite with him.
C. Your defense didnt see Rashard Mendenhall last time

Lets the best team win.

by tannofsteel84 on Nov 10, 2009 9:46 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

The Bengals are the #2 rush defense in the league.

You guys are better by .1 yards per carry (3.7/attempt vs. 3.8/attempt).

You guys are actually giving up more points per game than we are.

I guess the fun, for me, is watching football on Sunday without expectations.

It makes no sense to have you here saying you aren’t taking anything into consideration. Go back to the lowly Cincy Jungle. We talk sports. We’re very level headed 99% of the time. But every now and then we like to talk trash because we’re fans. You’re not as it’s clear to everyone at this point.

Compared to baseball, some stats are much less important.

In baseball, we know which stats are correlated to winning, and we know how strong that correlation is. The same thing is happening with next-gen basketball stats. That doesn’t exist so much for football.

You cannot truly be a Fan

Ask the Broncos about stopping our run.

We at Steeler Nation do have expectations for our squad. The man in the Aviators once said “the level of expectation does not change.” Maybe that’s why we’re consistently an elite team and you’re that flop team every year.

I don't think my expectations cause my team to "flop"

The teams that have “flopped” just weren’t very good. This is the first time since 1988 that we’ve started 6-2. The other teams in recent history just weren’t as good.

by jsl413 on Nov 10, 2009 10:03 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yes but,

If you have an entire fan base consistently expecting a level of play from you, and those fans shower you with love when they see you on the streets, or in the stadium, it tends to be a motivating factor. Ask any quarterback whether fans matter when their about to snap the ball and cant even hear themselves yelling. A dedicated fanbase will motivate and propel a team to success.

I disagree.

Because we’ve sold out games for all of the bad years, and finally are fielding a good team and are having trouble selling out games.

Success, empirically, starts at the front office. Yours is better than the Bengals’. That’s about it.

You can’t sell out games because no one believes in your flop team. People have seen the rise and fall of the bengals almost every year. They’re tired of losing and aren’t convinced that this is a consistent winning football team because of HISTORY

Your right

The success of the 70’s, the coaching staff being so great and steady, the way the players interact with the city of Pittsburgh, are nothing. Its all the front offices doing. Damn those guys are good.

Never mind the 80s, when we still sold out games. We have since the 70s, its because anyone born in this city really does feel like this team is a part of them. Sounds corny but its true.

It has nothing to do with advertising. It has to to do with our team playing consistent smash mouth football that endears this city to the team.

You could take every Steeler banner or ad in the city down, and 20 years from now, we will still sell out every game.

If you admit that success starts at the front office and...

ours is better than the Bengals. Why don’t you jump with all the other fans to an empirically better team. After all wouldn’t you want to be a fan of a better organization or are you just a glutton for punisment rooting for a team you know is “empirically” worse than another.

Good God

True that. When ben was Booed off the field in the first half of that game last year it reall really got to him. Motivated him to pull his offenses heads out of their asses and play some damn ball. Why did they Boo? Because we have a level of EXPECTATION. It’s simple. If your fan base doesn’t then they will have losing seasons. If you’re representing the Bengal fan base (since you summed up ours in one sentence) then you’ll keep having losing seasons because you don’t expect your team to win.

.1 yards per carry = 118 yards over the season.

2nd place .1 yard at a time is still 2nd place. (which coincidentally is where I predict the bungles will end up in the AFC North).

how about we are averaging only giving up 70 yards per game but you guys are giving up 83 yards per game.

the broncos were alot higher on that list before we got to them too. we have proven we can shut down prolific running games, our running game is so much better because of the running back and the much improved passing game. please bring those safeties up so mike wallace can burn you deep, or if you want stay deep so mendy can run down your throats. Hmmm...

1. The only way to predict the future with any sort of accuracy is to reflect on the past. That’s why they make you take history. You shouldn’t have slept through it.

2. Steelers nation is made up of millions of fan’s who didn’t bandwagon… I’m from 2000 miles away from Pittsburgh and have been a fan for 32 years.

3. If more of the bungles fans considered their team blog “sacred” and were as emotionally invested in the success of your team maybe your team wouldn’t suck so bad – Historically speaking of course.

4. Remember if we beat the bengals this weekend we are 1-1 with the them with a one game lead and 2 shots at knockin the crap out of the ravens… Who by the way I hate, but respect way more than the bungles. At least they play year in and year out like they care about the game.
Then the kittens go on to lose to Minnesota, SD, and the Jets. After the Steelers finish running the table that gives them a healthy 4 game lead in the division.

5. We wouldn’t have to focus energy on “shutting up” the bungles fans that troll here if you a. didn’t troll here, or b. had an intelligent thing to contribute.

6. I wouldn’t have to use the distance of the internet to insult you if you’d tell me where you live. I’ll come there and insult you.

7. This weekend is not a foregone (notice the correct spelling) conclusion. We look forward to the Steelers exacting revenge over 3 of the six points that kept us from being undefeated today.

To summarize. Go away until you can make a valid point.

I lumped a "type" of Steelers fans together

The type that loves to talk shit about the Bengals. There’s a BUNCH of those, in my experience. Others, such as those that like to talk about football rather than joking or talking about history not relevant to the upcoming game just annoy me. When we’re talking about the game THIS week, I don’t care what you’ve done in the past.

History is a completely different conversation. Trash talking, in this thread in particular, has wasted a lot of my time. At least when I spend hours online talking about football, I’ve usually learned something about the sport. This particular conversation has probably lowered the IQ of all parties involved, and for some of you, you didn’t have much to lose in the first place (heheheh call me out on the oxymoron I DARE YOU! There’s a harmless rub).

Cheers! See you later today when I post an “Ask a Bengals Fan” thread.

I might just have to wander over and cut & paste some stuff & re-post it here, with the perpetrators names. Just because I can. We seriously don’t insult, wish injury on, or take the rude shots your fan base does. t’s really the main reason that, as much as I despise the Ravens, I don’t despise their fanbase.

I sadly cannot say the same thing about the Bungles fan base.

We're not arrogant.

We just don’t really have as much time as do Bungles fans to post like a crazy old fart in a rest home.

Or write comments as long as “The Oddyssey” to other fans.

Our players play, and play well. And ummm..especially well against the Bungles. One win does not a lifetime of suffering make for us.

Win a game or so every now and then against us. We’ll win the Lomardi more often than not, in comparison to you. Or, come to think of it, any other team. Is that cocky? Or just stating facts? :)

by shleeve on Nov 14, 2009 11:40 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Um.... ok
his is why I have such a hard time respecting so many Steeler fans. The players on the field will do the talking, and nothing you have to say will effect the outcome at all. In the event that the Bengals win, you just look stupid for bringing up history, as many NFL fans do, to predict the future.

Hmmm… where to start. First off the most ridiculous part of your post is saying that we shouldn’t say anything because we cannot control the outcome of the game. You’re very very right. But then why do we buy jerseys, wave towels, yell at our TVs, be superstitious, or do anything else a TRUE fan would do. It must be hard to be a Bengals fan but now I’m questioning your fanhood.

Second: If it wasn’t for history we would be in a repetitive state of downfall 24/7. In the event that the Bengals win (which they won’t,) then you can burn all 6 of our Lombardi’s (since history doesn’t matter,) and we can demo the Pro Football Hall of Fame (because who cares about guys that played in the past.) We’re not here to patronize anybody but the people who come here looking for it. And I’m assured there will be plenty. Yes you’re a good football team of complete inconsistency. Hard to beat a team twice in a year? Pull that history book out of the fire. Last year we beat the second best team in the AFC, (possibly the whole NFL) 3, count em, 3 times. No this game has to be played. Not only because we win on paper. But because our boys would like to welcome you to a Heinz field full of terrible towels and terrible revenge.

Svenhoek didn’t write this thread on your blog, to insult the Bungles. He did it for us. So when your obnoxious fans, that are riding OchoStinko’s obnoxious D!*k, come over to talk trash we’d have a full line of brilliant retorts to come back at them with. JSL143 I’m very sorry your team doesn’t have a decorated past, a dedicated owner, or a motivational head coach. But if you think that Steeler fans should forget about all that because your team FINALLY beat us and we’re going to only think about what’s to come you’re dead wrong.

Talk trash, get pumped up, be superstitious, buy a jersey, wave a towel, wear a cheese head, jump up and down, remember those that played before, and above all, Be a fan!

Mike Brown sucks, but in spite of him, we're a quality team this year.

I’m not saying the past doesn’t matter, but it sure doesn’t matter to me when I think about the game this weekend. Your Superbowl history won’t impact the outcome of this game.

My point is history does not predict the future in sports. I just think it’s funny that you guys feel compelled to preemptively talk trash.

by jsl413 on Nov 10, 2009 9:47 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

it's what we do

Oh and our SB doesn’t matter? Does it matter that 95% of the guys on that team are suiting up on Sunday? Does it matter that we’ve been in complete control of this Division for many years now? I believe in any given Sunday just as much as the next guy, but if it wasn’t for history there would be no spread in any Bets in Vegas. We would just flip a coin, or play roulette all night. There’s nothing I can say to convince you of how convincing our win will be on Sunday. But what I can do is remind you of how a majority of the past match-ups have ended if you’d like. No wait you wouldn’t care to look at history. Screw this I’m going to go watch America’s Game.

No

It will be because we took care of the Palmer’s. Bring either or both to the game. Doesn’t matter who you start. Troy is here and he is a football god.

What do the Bengel fans have against the magnificent past of football

Mmmmmm I can’t stand the Patsies but I don’t close my eyes and pretend that they never won those superbowls or feel like acknowledging their success will make me burst into flames. What is it with Bengels fans and this ‘past’ they can’t run fast enough from.

by jglo on Nov 12, 2009 5:36 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Have to disagree with you on that point, based on two things:

1) We have a standard of pride in our work on the field that does actually stem from the past success we have had. Whether that success is garnered at the expense of the Bungles, or the past Super Bowl appearances, it all matters to us. Our coaches and our players all have pointed to the history we have here as one very huge motivational factor. So to say it has NO bearing…is foolish.

2) What the hell do you know about Super Bowl history anyway?

Shouldn’t someone talking about Super Bowl history be a credible reference?? Who let this guy in here? ;)

Stay as long as you like. Just make sense, mmmkay?

Lousy reputation? False. You get that from fans like JSL that like to make broad insults and inject his own point of view and biases into everything. I have travelled to many different cities for Stillers games…we are definitely respected. We are known to be a dedicated, intelligent bunch who tend to not resort to throwing beer bottles or screaming at small children (I’ve seen both from opposing fanbases…the former in Cincy…twice).

alright, here's a curiosity question:

Are the majority of Steeler fans Pitt Panther fans as well? With a Big East title bout looming, December 5th to be exact, how many Steeler fans are looking forward to that game?

The Bearcats are a recent phenomena, and football success is quite foreign in these parts. Back-to-back contenders is simply unheard of around here. With the Panthers playing Pittsburgh style football, is there interest in that program? I realize it’s not the same as the Steelers, but I was just curious if there’s any interest in the upcoming Big East bout.

I'm in bengal-fan...

Something tells me that within the past two years the Steelers have had more arrests/ citations/ run-ins with the law then the Bengals have had. I’ll do some research.

Bottom line, your Quarterback has been accused of rape. If I had my way I’d lock his fat ass up and throw away the key.

Key word:

Accused.

Have you seen anything where hes even been closed to being considered guilty by the Police?

The further its been going on, the more apparant its been seen as this girl was making stuff up.

Now only the petty minded individuals like yourself try to use it as ammo

Enjoy. That situation is dead to me

Heaven forbid he be innocent until PROVEN guilty.

But if I were a bengals fan (living in my momma’s basement) I’d be hoping that they would lock up the 100 mil. dollar man too.

That's ironic

A Steeler fan wearing a shirt mocking a team who had problems 5 years ago.

Your Super Bowl MVP has quite a rap sheet with 3 arrests. Your kicker is an angry drunk. James Harrison beats his baby mamma.

"who had problems 5 years ago."

Five years ago? When was the last time travis henry was arrested? The ONLY reason that bum is on your team is because your garbage owner was DESPERATE. Brown’s the worst owner is sports. The Steeler’s owner was just appointed President Obama’s Ambassador to Ireland. Make sure you understand which rock you crawled out of so you know where to head after Sunday.

You’re garbage. The whole Queen City is garbage.

Not really sure what was said here....

All I could see was the words, “Super Bowl MVP.”

Man…what does THAT feel like?

We have two SB MVP’s on the roster at the same time…first ever WR tandem to play at the same time as former SB MVP’s.

Wow…

What player has been up for the Super Bowl MVP before?

You know, as a team, I dont hate them as much as the Ravens.

But I hate their fans more then any team in the league. 95% of their fanbase can not handle a little success. They flip out when they win a few games, and start making plans for the Super Bowl before the season is halfway over.

It is hilarious to watch after their season falls apart though. And if we beat them in the playoffs this year, I’m pitching a tent at the Cincy Jungle so I can observe the monkeys going bananas.

Anyone got a shot from the ’05 Playoff Game of those two kids in the stands..the one with “WHO” and the other with “DEY” painted on their small and bare chest looking all downtrodden while Steeler fans surrounding them celebrate, AND the empty green seats behind them?!?? Would be SWEET to see.

Bum Bum Bum....Bum Bum Bum

This is it. The Bengal’s very small window of being on top, is about to be over. I really hope you enjoyed your party while it lasted Bengals fans. I hope, that your hope was enough to make you still want to be fans after this season is over. Sure, you might make the playoffs as a wild card, but you won’t get far after that. Go ahead, ask the Ravens. The team you faced in week 3, I’m sorry to say isn’t the same as the team you’ll face today. You’ll find that out in about fifteen minutes.
Who-Dey, we all despise your arrogant approach to sports blogging. You will, with no doubt be sulking after this game. I and the rest of BTSC invite you to bring your tears back so we can all taste your anguish. I want you to send me a pick of you after the game so we can see the look of disappointment in your eyes that we all expected to see. I want to hear your stupid retorts after our D shuts down Benson, creams Palmer, and turns Ocho Cinco into the mediocre receiver that only gets attention because of his antics. Thanks for making a complete ass of yourself prior to the beat down today. Best of luck trying to get your team to move out of our division (it’s the only way you’ll make the playoffs in this millennium.)

Bring a towel to the game. Black or gold or yellow. If you don't have one buy one, If you can't buy one, dye one!!!
