BTSC Steelers Daily Six Pack- Veterans Day Edition
IX-In honor of veterans day let's look at this ESPN report about Rocky Bleier that previously aired before this weeks Monday Night game. Also make sure to read the story at ESPN.com. Happy Veterans Day!
X-Congratulations to Tyrone "Predator" Carter on his two interception performance that won him the AFC defensive player of the week award. The award is Carter's first in his career and it certainly says something about the depth and standard of expectation of this Steeler team when a back-up safety is capable of putting in a game changing performance.
XIII-I was in attendance at last years' Monday Night game in Washington D.C. where Steelers fans took over one of the largest stadiums in the NFL and turned it from a hostile environment into a home-field advantage. The reports from the game played on Monday night this year at Denver are quite similar and even more surprising considering the solid fan-base and the great start to the season that Denver has enjoyed. Woody Paige of the Denver Post lambastes the fans for selling their tickets to Steeler fans.
XIV-It doesn't look like Ed Bouchette did his normal Tuesday chat. (he was probably busy explaining to his editor how horrible his job was) Anyways, here is another Post Gazette writer, Jerry Micco's chat transcript. Also here is the transcript for Mike Tomlins' post game press conference as well as his weekly Tuesday press conference.
XL-Is it just me or has Chad Ochocinco been a lot less annoying this year and much more comical this season? Between bribing referees and telling Champ Bailey to kiss the baby he has made the Bengals fun to watch. His latest antic was this week he shipped some mustard over to Pittsburgh because the defense won't be able to "ketchup." Say what you want about Chad's bad attitude but this year I thought it was quite impressive when he bought up a bunch of tickets in week 6 to help the Bengals avoid a blackout.
XLIII-Here is a list of post-game wrap-ups from around the blogosphere:

lol nice write up
-dunno if you made up the nickname for carter or it’s really his nickname, but his hair & visor definitely makes him look like the predator.
-great points about ochocinco. he definitely takes a lot of flack (and a ton from me), but I really think he views himself as an entertainer. and he certainly has been a team player. in fact, i think i’ve heard him complain less publicly about his team his entire career than housh has complained this season alone. i mean he’s certainly had issues: where he sat out hoping for money, etc. but i dont think he publicly complained very often

Not the predator
Carter does deserve a good nickname, but I think that one belongs to Darnell Dockett. There’s something about the grille on his helmet that reminds me of the predator’s lips. Darnel has the dreads and his tats sorta resemble the webbing.

It was a beautiful thing
I couldn’t open the DP article, but Steeler Nation was out in full force! Not only at the stadium, but all throughout downtown Denver, the Coors factory, everywhere you looked, there was Black and Gold!
you have to sign up for an account….its free, but still a pain…I don’t normally post article that you need to sign up for but thought this one was worth it.

Awright, DYMS! Down and give me 20!
Hostel? HOSTEL???? Hostel is a group inn in Europe!
It’s HOSTILE, as in “mobile, agile and HOSTILE”. Angry, aggressive and attitudinal – HOSTILE.
And yes, the DP article was a thing of beauty – for Steeler Nation. Paige was rather upset, wasn’t he? Funny thing is, he didn’t seem to notice until all the Broncos fans left, with about ten minutes left in the game. Maybe their reality differs from his? This ain’t yo mama’s Denver, Woody – folks want to get home to bed.
My heros have always been Steelers...
haha
I am such a bone-head….sorry in advance guys…I am trying to do this and combat with a new job…so this are hectic….will get back on track soon.

Damn wozzle
You beat me to the punch! I was gonna bitch to DYMS about his slip of the keyboard myself!
I was also at the game in DC, and despite their current woes, the Redskins were 6-2 entering that game and I was surprised that so many Skins fans gave up seats. However, Metro DC has a large ex-pat community and is a located a short drive from Pittsburgh. Denver is awfully far away from Pittsburgh. Was this game a magnet for west coast Steeler fans? I can’t imagine Denver has that many Pittsburgh expats or that so many people travelled from Pittsburgh for this game.
The other possible explanation for both showings — Heinz tix are really tough to come by and MNF games in many places are a hassle due to the late starts, traffic, etc. Maybe more season ticket holders are willing to sell for MNF and Steelers fans are willing to pay.
The other possibility which I hate to consider is the bandwagon effect of people following a consistent winner despite having no connection to Pittsburgh. If I could choose my loyalties, why on earth would I still like the Pirates?
ya….Fed-Ex field is a pain to get in and out of on a sunday when people are arriving anytime between morning and the start of the game.
The current traffic structure in the DC metro area really can’t sustain the traffic that all comes at once on a Monday Night game.

The extended Steeler nation was born thanks to the Steel Curtain team of the 70’s. The remarkable thing is that through the agonizing 80’s, the nation didn’t shrink. After Cowher took the reigns the nation started growing again and for at least a decade we’ve reigned supreme as easily the best traveling fan base in the NFL. People get on the Steeler band wagon and never get off
Nice post in the DC blog
My cousin sent a link to the sports blog in the Washington Post where the author finally sees the light on Steeler Nation. This is my first time, trying to post a link. Bear with me.
D.C. Sports Bog – Steelers fans do it again
Source: voices.washingtonpost.com
(By Doug Pensinger – Getty) So a pleasantly surprising six-win team was hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers, on “Monday Night Football,” around the season's mid-point. In front of a mixed crowd, the flailing home team lost by more than two touchdowns. …
One can never ...
hear Rocky’s story too many times. Privileged to be at Invesco Monday night; I drove over from Leavenworth, KS area. I was sitting near many fans who in fact had traveled long distances to see the game. The Broncos had orange pop poms at every seat. Took all of a second to dispatch mine. I will tell you that for the first half the pom poms accomplished their task of minimizing the towel’s presence. The sea of orange was awesome, but alas, the fans lacked the commitment to use the pom poms for the full game. It wasn’t long before the true number of Steelers fans made their presence felt. I think there is an inherent goodness to the Terrible Towel and a fan commitment to their Towels that can’t be matched by any other team’s attempt at replication.
Veterans Day
Thank you for posting the Rocky Bleier video on this day.
We are allowed the opportunity to live the way we do, because of the veterans.
It is nice to see they are remembered here.

Second that.
With my son serving in Afghanistan now and being a Veteran myself, this day is very near and dear to my heart. God Bless our Veterans and the USA. Thanks for remembering BTSC.
When the tailgate drops, the BS stops. Shut up and play!
I hope your son returns home safely.

Thank you! I'll pass that on to him!
He was on the FoxNFL pre-game show. Was in the hanger when Howie was getting his hair cut. Of course I missed seeing him… I was watching Howie. Duh.

sticking with the Pirates no matter what

not sure about that
I’ve been in discussions with my friends and relatives about giving up the Bucs (I just can’t quit you…) There’s so many reasons to give them up. If anyone wants to start a separate (or should I say sePirate) thread, I’d be willing to share my pathetic thoughts on the subject.
But the fact of the matter remains that my blood runs black and gold – so I guess I’m stuck with the 4A Pirates.
I’m in Central NJ so being a Pirate’s fan lends credibility to my love for the Steelers.
Here we go…
lloyd95
there is a very good Pirates blog at the Post Gazette website, and all but the most disgruntled and loss-weary Buccos fans love to commiserate there. And I must say (organizationally speaking), they’re looking a whole lot better now than they did in 2007-08.
My heros have always been Steelers...
Raiders
I almost wish the game against the
Raiders was in Oakland. Raider games are blacked out locally and there is a full on mutiny in the Bay Area against crazy old Al. Fans are staying away in droves in protest to the crap Al’s putting on the field. I’d love to see the Nation takeover the stands in Oakland. It would be just like another home game.

Was there in "our" house...
I live in Denver so it’s sweet when the boys come to town. Two moments come to mind during the game 1) When Heath Miller caught a pass everyone did the “Heeeeeeaaaath” chant and my buddy said it came through loud and clear on the TV, and 2) There was a part late in the game where the stadium was somewhat cleared because we were in control, and during a TV break everyone stood up and waved their towels. It was good to get revenge for 2007, and I think it’s funny that the MNF folks made such a big deal about Law and the Bronco DBs because I never heard Law’s name called once over the loudspeaker, Ben threw that 35 yard rocket to Santonio right over Champ’s head, and Mikey beat Dawkins for a score to boot. So much for the Bronco “hall of fame” secondary.

Agreed on OchoCinco
While his name change is annoying, he has been downright hilarious. I like that he’s kept his style despite the league changing rules virtually for him. The no TD celebration rule is absolutely retarded, yet he found a way to make the most of the situation.
The guy as you mentioned did show some serious class and bailing out that blackout was super cool of him.
OOPS didn't work....

Sevens Up!
There is a nice confluence between Ben’s 7, the guy in the #7 Broncos jersey, and the big 7-eleven sign in the stands. If Elway is Ben’s hero, he must have been jazzed by all the Elway jerseys in Denver.
His latest antic was this week he shipped some mustard over to Pittsburgh because the defense won’t be able to “ketchup.”
Lewis just said no. I think it would have been funny. Chad is fun to watch.
