Ty Carter AFC Defensive Player Of The Week
When I first saw Ty Carter I didn't like him. It was his first season with the Steelers in 2004. He was making a special teams tackle on the sideline standing over a player and taunting. He didn't get flagged but I remember how pissed I was at him because it was an important game.
Gradually I have come to appreciate Carter's special teams prowess and his ability to step in for Troy Polamalu or Ryan Clark and hit the "standard." After reading about how he conducts himself in his personal life my appreciation for him grew. Now the AFC has appreciated Ty Carter's performance naming him AFC Defensive Player of the week. Congrats Ty!

Guess two INT's, one for 6 points will do that for a guy.
I’ve said before that he needs to go, but that was when he was subbing for Troy P. The hitting aspect of Knockout’s game was lost with Carter in there, but I can’t believe Clark makes those picks. I still say we need to focus on DB’s this year in the draft, IMO, our thinnest corps of players.

Your mistake was holding Carter to Troys level.
He’s a starter on almost any other team.
Ryan Clark remarked that Coach Tomlin once asked whether he wanted to be the nail in the defense, or the hammer. "I said, 'I want to be the hammer coach.'"
Not sure about him being a starter
I think he is a servicable back-up with a bunch of game experience. At the age of 33 though he is older than most people playing the position and doesn’t have the skill set to dominate. But he plays smart and hard.

Agreed
Theres a reason Carter was seldom a starter even in his prime. His style of play is similar to that of Clark, with the all out, hard hitting mentality, but when in Polamalus position, just cant compare even on the most basic of levels.
A good backup FS, a sub-par backup SS. I think the reason so many were calling for his head was because of his previous performances backing up Polamalu, rather than Clark

Clark doesn't make those picks because he plays his position
I have to tell you, I don’t think Carter was supposed to be where he was for the first pick six. There were two receivers behind Carter on that play, both in single coverage. Now, I don’t know the play call (maybe they were running the D different because Denver couldn’t throw deep against Baltimore), but I can’t recall seing Ryan Clark play 10 yards off the line when there are two receivers further down the field, one running a deep route.
Not trying to knock Carter’s big game, but cheating up like that and trying to anticipate against a QB like Carson Palmer will get you eaten alive. Carter may be one of the best back up FS in the NFL, but I still like Clark in there.

I think the fact that Orton couldn’t have thrown to either of those receivers made it easier. Certainly Carson will make him pay for something like that. As for DB, I think we need to see how Mundy, K. Lewis and Burnett play. Haven’t seen much game time at all, and that could make a huge difference for us

Of course the new kids need playing time, but not against a team like the Bungholes, or in a game this important. Let them get reps in during the Chiefs game. Cassel won’t be able to do anything against us anyway.
