A New Tomlinism
Hey folks, caught a new Tomlinism on the Steelers website today (Steelers.com).
Coach was asked if he had any conversation with cornerback Willie Gay in the wake of his catching the short end of the collision with Adrian Peterson two weeks ago. The questioner was concerned that given the amount of attention the play received in the national media that there might be some impact on Gay's psyche. Tomlin acknowledged that given the nature of the business that they try to counsel in advance that:
"From time to time gunfighters get shot."
I love this guy.
A few months back Maryrose did an excellent piece on Tomlinisms. Has anyone been tracking the more recent statements?

The two children of these spawned and fused in a tantric love session to create Troy Polamalu. The mother however died as he tore through the birth canal with a spin move."

Im not trying to be a spoil sport
But I heard him say this about Ben as well during Americas Game.
It is a good one though.
Ryan Clark remarked that Coach Tomlin once asked whether he wanted to be the nail in the defense, or the hammer. "I said, 'I want to be the hammer coach.'"
A good quote is a good quote.
It can apply to many situations. If it’s applicable frequently it becomes a cliche’. Tomlinisms could become cliche’s.
I wasn’t pleased because we didn’t win - Mike Tomlin (after the 2009 week 2 loss to Chicago).
+1
Loved the quote when he used it about Ben. Not so much here, though… I can’t remember the last time I saw a gunslinger plowed into the ground by a guy wearing purple..
Tomlin is a legend.
Yeah, thats a good one. A personal favourite of mine is the comment dircted at FWP, in lastr years tomlinism awards.

One of life's great pleasures as a Steeler fan....
..is knowing that Tomlin is starter than you, and far more quotable than you can ever hope to be.
You develop confidence in him, and when you second guess him, you wonder what he knows that you don’t.
It’s SOOOO much fun watching and listening as he goes about his work.
I would kill everyone in this room for a drop of sweet beer.

I'm making a new one
It came from me so it’s not a Tomlinism. “He who eats praise is too full to eat the bread of redemption.”
"A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty." - Winston Churchill
that’s more Socrates than Coach T.
breathe in deep feel your heart beat, just to know that life's worth livin'. feel your feet on the earth, better love it while it's still here spinnin'.

Yes.
Now that’s better. Just throw in something like “This group of men” or “Steeler football isn’t pretty, but it’s 60 minutes”…and you’ll really be on to something.
