How about some touchbacks?
I saw at least one comment criticizing Reed on the TD return. He got out to the edge and forced the guy back inside. Which is his main job on the return. The other 10 guys are supposed to make the tackle. Gay seemed attracted to a blocker like a piece of metal to a magnet.
But Reed has THREE touchbacks on kickoffs this year. Teams are routinely catching the ball between the five and the ten. Which makes it nearly impossible to get a returner inside his own 20, let alone a touchback.
Reed has been a clutch field goal kicker (folks remember Kris Brown?), and if he's not much help on returns, most kickers aren't. But we also need a guy who can kick into the end zone once in awhile. The combination of short kicks and bad coverage this year has been a crippling problem. Yesterday it helped lose the game.
If he stops acting like an idiot off the field, I'm for bringing Reed back, but trying to find somebody else to kick off.
And I sure miss Anthony Madison on the coverage unit.

Kicker
I think it’s obvious that Reed will no longer be our kicker after this year, but we do need a new one sorry to say. And we need someone who can be consistent at Heinz Field in the blustery December (and hopefully January) winds. Would we draft a kicker, or would we choose to go into free agency.
By the way, the kicker in question I think needs to be a step up in kickoffs certainly. This is something that has bugged me as of late.

hopefully Pat McAfee will be a free agent soon
He can both punt and be a PK

The returner should not even get to the kicker in the first place
That TD is far from Reed’s fault. Yes, it was a attempt of a princess to make that tackle, but your special teams created some huge holes for Scott because of their mistakes.

just kick it out of bounds on purpose
you hold the other team out of the endzone and you know they’re getting the ball at the 40 yard line. that might be the only way we keep one from going back every week……

4 of 4 on field goals...
Which is the only thing he is solely responsible for. I’d love for him to make that tackle, and he should have, but come on now.

But if he did give his game check to the homeless...
I’d be all for it.

I hear you...
Pathetic is the right word. I’ll say the same thing I said last time, a little effort goes a long way. In the fans mind, in your teammates mind, in your coaches mind, etc. His effort was lacking.

Gay is more to blame than Reed
1 – Logan got pushed inside by Quan Cosby (who was brilliant on this return), allowing Scott to hop back outside then glide back inside, barely getting by Keyaron Fox.
2 – Gay bouned off a pile and began sprinting in pursuit.
3 – Reed slowed Scott down a step and forced him to cut back inside.
4 – Gay CLEARLY has the angle on Scott after this redirect.
5 – Quan Cosby absolutely BLOWS BY Logan, who is chasing Scott.
6 – Cosby then gets an arm push twice on Gay, who gets pushed away like a gale force wind is hitting him. The first push was about the 32.
And when Gay gets pushed off his line, he blocks out Ike Taylor, who had come up at a good angle and was going to make a dive at Scott.
7 – Cosby then goes back and wipes out Logan.
8 – Gay doesn’t end up lunging at Scott until about the 5 because he’d gotten pushed around by Cosby.
Gay, not Reed, was no help downfield, and Quan Cosby made an absolutely all-hustle play to spring that TD.
You can see it by coping in this link:

Here's what i saw
1 Logan turns him in initially but is so small he is easily blocked.
2 Fox plays pattycake with his blocker then gets held as he tries to make the
tackle. He should have dove at the runner’s legs instead of reaching for his
jersey.
3 Good blocking by the bengals st
4 Logan is not very fast. I don’t think he has the speed to take a return to
the house

Oops
Don’t want to forget about Ike. He pulled a Randy Moss. I know he had outside contain but when Scott cut it back inside, Ike just stood there and let a blocker git to him. There was no aggression what so ever. We may need to play some starters on coverage units but only if they are going to try to make a play

Problem with Ike?
Ike stayed on his contain until Scott cut it back inside, then he turned towards the play. He didn’t just stand there.
