There are 7 games left for crying out loud

Super Bowls are not won or lost the 2nd weekend in November and although we trail the division by 1 game, the Bungles haven't wrapped up anything yet except for a tie-breaker which isn't going to matter anyway.  They will LOSE to Minnesota and San Diego and they will lay an egg somewhere else along the line.  It is a 16 game season and it is going to come down to the wire as it should (and always does).  We have something going for us that Cincy doesn't, EXPERIENCE!  Our experience in late November and in the month of December will be the difference between us going 12-4 and Cincy sliding in at 11-5.  Have we got some holes to fill?  Of course we do and so do all the other NFL teams.  New England and Indy both gave up 30+ points yesterday, the Saints looked so so vs. the Rams of all teams.  Mike Tomlin will rectify the NOT SO Special Teams play and our defense will continue to play at a high level, check the stats from yesterday's game, the D was pretty stout.

Lets see

KC W, Balt L, Oak W, Clev W, GB W, Balt W, Mia W. Ok optimistic but realisitc also. That’s 12-4. That will get the Steelers in the playoffs. 11-5 will be risky, who’d of ever thought that 11 wins might not make the playoffs. By the end of the 1st quarter I had a bad feeling yesterday. But am optimistic stll about the season.

me too

didn’ the Pats go 11-5 last year and get held out?

by WARDANE33 on Nov 16, 2009 2:12 PM EST up reply actions

Oh really?

After that crap we all saw yesterday, what makes you think we can win 11 or 12 games?? Play calling sucks!! Special teams suck! This game shows what the Steelers are made of…GUTLESS! You let this team come to OUR house and we play like that? Face it, we got pushed around yesterday from a team that we have been pummeling for the past 40yrs!! Can things change Who knows..at this point, there are no easy games for us..Even the lions gave us a hard time! I hope you are right and they right the ship..

We just went 2-1 in our last 3 games against teams with a combined record of 21-5. I’ll take that. Sure, we lost to Cincy at home, a game that we needed, but it’s not the end of the season. We lead the Wild Card right now.

when you put it that way, it certainly seems a lot easier to swallow this loss. Still sucks though.

by theatrain on Nov 16, 2009 4:24 PM EST up reply actions

You are killing me...

That was one bad game NYC, one bad game. We’re coming off of a 5 game winning streak. The last 40 years (your arbitrary number) mean nothing. This is a new season. The Bengals are good. We are good too. They won. Enough said. You should watch some of the real bad teams play, you can see the difference. Sheesh.

Watch the Raiders, Redskins, Chiefs, Browns, etc. play from week to week. You can see the difference between good teams and bad teams. It’s called perspective. We are not a bad team.

Ha... Yeah, I'm letting it go at this point.

By the way, love KEXP. I’m surprised that stations like that even function at this point. You’d think the radio conglomerate overlords would have found a way to shut that stuff down by now. Thanks.

Yeah, try being a Bears fan

They stupidly annointed Cutler the next Sid Luckman/Joe Montana. Add in the Cubs and they’re having a massively disappointing sports year.

5 games..

true, detroit, cleveland, san diego(who is good) Minny(which out gained us by 100yds..denver..well, guess they are frauds..THEY came to our house and beat BB to a drum! that doesnt piss you off??

by nycsteelerfan on Nov 16, 2009 4:44 PM EST up reply actions

They didn't beat us like a drum...

Unless of course you expected us to win handily, which wasn’t very realistic to begin with. They already beat us once this year, so it wasn’t an unbelievable loss. It was a tough, gut check game. A game we were not ready to play on Sunday. This happens from time to time. Good teams beat good teams. There are no juggernauts in the NFL. Look at the Saints against the Rams yesterday… it happens.

This is a good football team, they’re a talented group who has the ability to win any game they’re in. But that doesn’t mean they’ll win every game they’re in. Expecting them to is not fair, to them or yourself. I think you’re setting the bar too high, and riding the roller coaster a little too much. This is just my opinion, of course, you’re more than allowed to continue with business as usual (not trying to be a wise ass, just trying to help ease your mind a little).

Oh really

Dint BB run for his life?? balls batted down, sacked 4 times, hit how many others?

by nycsteelerfan on Nov 16, 2009 5:35 PM EST up reply actions

Ben was running for his life last year when we played the Giants

Did they dominate us? Keep in mind we held them to 1 touchdown, while we scored two on them. We held their vaunted running game in check and Manning was off all day until late in the 4th quarter.

You call that domination?

by StoneColdSteel on Nov 16, 2009 8:11 PM EST up reply actions

Your're right

The sky is falling, the sky is falling, oh wait, it’s just the dog on the fire escape taking a dump. Seriously, bad game, but 6-3 in not the end of the world and while Cincy certainly has the edge right now, it is not impossible for us to still win the division. The Steeler just need to put it all together. The talent is there even with all the injuries. They just need to step up.

by DarinS on Nov 19, 2009 5:02 PM EST up reply actions

I hope I am right as well

i think we can win 11 or 12 games because we already proved we can rattle off 5 wins in a row. compound that with the fact that we have pretty easy schedule from here on in and I am optimistic. we are champions and i really don’t feel like we are gutless, we just picked a bad day to play our worst game of the year against a decent opponent in the division.

by WARDANE33 on Nov 16, 2009 4:22 PM EST up reply actions

Hey Wardane

that gutless comment was pretty lame. Wonder if he would personally say that to any member of the team. Jeff Reed would probably beat him like a towel dispenser. I don’t agree with you about the easy schedule though, Baltimore twice and Miami at the end of the year, not to mention Green Bay. We have a long row to hoe.

Everybody loved the Steelers last Tuesday morning...

What’s with all the negativity? Yes, Pittsburgh blew the opportunity to control the North yesterday. It happens. Cincy is about to go 6-0 in the North. That’s the sign of a team good enough to win the division.

Cincy is the better team this year. That’s why they got fourth quarter wins against Pittsburgh (twice) and Baltimore). If not for that ridiculous ending to the Broncos game, they’d be in the running with Indy for #1 seed. If Pittsburgh could play fourth quarter O against CIncy, we’d be fighting for home field advantage.

Pittsburgh is on a 5-1 run (beating three playoff contenders), with only one team left above .500. Granted, that increases to three if Baltimore can handle the re-launching of the Brady Era tonight.

It’s just one loss in a month and a half, folks. Breathe.

by upabob on Nov 16, 2009 3:23 PM EST reply actions

i disagree

that the Bengals are better than us this year albeit they beat us twice. we beat the Bronco’s by 18 in Denver and they lost to Denver in Denver, does that make us better than Cincy? i will only concede they are better at the end of the 16 game season and they have a better win loss record until then, there is alot of football left to be played.

by WARDANE33 on Nov 16, 2009 4:26 PM EST up reply actions

Even then

Only if they get farther then us in the playoffs.

And the way the winds are blowing, it seems like destiny for us to meet again. If so, do we prove we are not the 08 Ravens? Do we let them defile the sanctity of our reputation again?

My gut tells me maybe.

Ryan Clark remarked that Coach Tomlin once asked whether he wanted to be the nail in the defense, or the hammer. "I said, 'I want to be the hammer coach.'"

by svenhoek on Nov 16, 2009 7:12 PM EST up reply actions

C'mon

They beat us twice. Beating Denver doesn’t make us better than Cincy. Beating Cincy would make us better than Cincy. And we didn’t beat them either time.

Just like 2005, we might go farther than them in the playoffs, but to deny they’re the better team after beating us twice? Geez…

We are spoiled

We are lucky to be part of the Steeler Nation. The bar has been set so high that the fall is painful when we have a game like yesterday. Overall some valid complaints about Ben’s poor play, the play calling and ST but I think we all realize what a team we have and that we have a better than average chance of going deep in the playoffs.

by qwikdoc on Nov 16, 2009 4:07 PM EST reply actions   1 recs

"chance of going deep"

yeah well that chance just went down quite a few percentage points. The Steelers lost the ability to control home field advantage and maybe a bye week in the playoffs, and they may not even get a wildcard. And they let the bengals take it from them. The pathetic, GMless team with the ebonics chant that had a show on HBO this year. It makes me sick.

This is the biggest Steelers loss since the 2007 playoffs. I think overall everyone here is being pretty good about this because this was a devastating loss. Face it – this sucks. Then again we’ve had some good Sundays too recently…

I’m not really directing this toward you qwikdoc, this is my vent for the day.

"It was an attrition football game and you know we like that."

by showtime on Nov 16, 2009 8:03 PM EST up reply actions

we won our 5th sb squeaking in as a wildcard and playing the entire playoffs on the road and BB wasn’t half the qb he is now. If we can hold onto the wildcard spot and Troy gets healthy, I"m confident we will do some damage. Even getting #7. Can’t ever count this organization out.
I feel your pain though showtime, Lots of venting to be done this week

GMTA

I just posted the same thing minutes ago in the “WTF” thread. We are spoiled. I don’t EVER want to get used to losing but pluh-eeeeeeease! It was ONE FREAKIN’ GAME (albeit would have been nice to knock the stripes off the Bengals uniforms…..) and it didn’t come to pass.

I’ll be at my sports bar next week yelling and supporting the Steelers… like I’m sure the vast majority of us will.

by Jonny B. on Nov 16, 2009 5:13 PM EST reply actions

afc north schedules

I’m curious (but not complaining) about the scheduling of our divisional games. It seems odd to me that we would play the bengals twice before we play the ravens once. I’ve heard that it’s done to create some marquee match ups late into the season, but I don’t buy it. I also remember hearing that the Ravens lobbied to not play us in a prime time season opener, but we still should be able to accommodate them before the 5th to last week of the season. Does anybody else have insight to the awkward timing of our divisional games?

by HereWeGo on Nov 16, 2009 5:30 PM EST reply actions

7 games remain so lets see

win in a row again 5
lose to Balt
beat Mia
win next 4 for another 5 game streak
AND
that game 5 is the SB
I’ll take 5 game winning streaks for the rest of the year thank you very much.

by SNW on Nov 16, 2009 6:13 PM EST reply actions

win 5 in a row again

that second sentence is ugly.

by SNW on Nov 16, 2009 6:14 PM EST reply actions

Hopefully, a wake-up call for the Steelers.

We’ve clearly got some issues on offense, but nothing that can’t be corrected. You won’t win many games without scoring even a single TD.

by Billy52 on Nov 16, 2009 10:26 PM EST reply actions

You will win many

when you don’t give up a single defensive td. Just one of those games.

Everything will be fine now.

The Bungle are about to sign LJ. How long before he and 85 do something to upset the cart? Neither know when to stop speaking.

we do have 7 games left...

My problem is not so much about the loss…it was more about effort! The Bengals wanted this game more! They felt that they outplayed the bengals in week 3, that this one would be easy at home! The bengals wanted it more, pure and simple! This loss hurt more than the 2007 playoffs…we were missing lots of starters, but an effort was made and by all accounts, pitt should have won that game!
