Talk Chiefs with AP
Hey guys Tomahawk44 here. Looking forward to the game on Sunday and hoping it will be closer than I think. The Chiefs are coming off the second win of the season even though it was an ugly one but maybe we can bring some momentum into this one. Our offense has started to get a little bit of rythm with our new WRs Lance Long and Chris Chambers. Jamaal Charles also took over well for LJ rushing for 103 yards and a TD last week. So what do you guys want to know about the Chiefs? Shoot away and we will see yall in KC on Sunday.

There is a rumor that LJ is soon to sign with the Bengals.....
What was the final straw in the organization’s decision to release him?

hmm well
he had some gay slurs and coach bashing on the athelete friendly Twitter and then the Chiefs fans starting a nice petition wanting him cut that had over 30,000 signatures lol

It probably will be close for a while
We have a tendency to play down to our competition. So unless we just morph into the Colts offense expect a close game until the second half.

God I hope so.
Chiefs fan here. I’ll be surprised if the Chiefs can hang in this game at all. Our offense is one of the most inept ones I think I’ve ever seen, and with Bowe being out… well you get the picture.
It looks like our biggest weapon will have to build off of the big game he had last week. Jamaal Charles is a promising young RB. He’s got enough speed and shiftiness to be able to produce a big play at any time. He’s got a lot of heart, and you can tell he’s hungry. He’ll fight for the extra yards. Shut down Charles and the game is in the bag for you guys.

What’s the general opinion on Matt Cassel? Is he the QB of the future for ya’ll?
by BluegrassSteeler on Nov 16, 2009 10:44 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Mixed opinions over on AP
mine personally yes he is. We just need to get him a better oline. If we get a Center and a replacement for Goff I think he may be able to be a top 10 QB in the NFL. Cassel is starting to get some WRs that he is getting comfortable with (Bowe Long and Chambers) I think all three will be here atleast next year so that should help him get it going. Here is Cassels stats so far.
144/259 10 Tds and 6 Interceptions

heres who I think..
1. Albert
2. Bradley
3. Cassel
4. Chambers
5. Charles
6. Long
7. O’Callaghan
8. Pope
9. K Smith
10. Savage
11. Bowe

He is a good QB
My feelings are that his arm strength is a bit lacking, but the accuracy and decision making is generally there. He has the ability to read defenses and is a smart player. He has trouble being accurate when throwing 30-40 yards or more, but a lot of QBs do.
by Lucasjr5 on Nov 17, 2009 7:31 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Too early to tell really...
But I would certainly say that he is. Every QB needs weapons and protection. He has had few weapons and no protection. We will see how he plays when he gets some.

I dont think he is a Todd Haley style QB
I see him as Chan Pennington with a little stronger arm and less experience. I actually think he would work out better in a cautious type offense the previous coach preferred.

Bowe's numbers regress due to lack of decent QB play.

APer here
Personally, I like Cassel. He’s still got a lot of development to go, but he shows promise. He’s made clutch plays in 3 games that either tied us up, took the lead, or got us in position. My favorite was vs Dallas, where he showed great leadership ability, and flashed the “it” factor. He rallied the team and drove about 80 yards for a TD in under 2 mins to take the game into OT. Stat wise I see Cassel as being an average QB, kind of like Garcia, Garrard, or Pennington. Clutch wise, I think he could be above average. All the Chiefs really need him to be is a true leader and game manager… similar to what we had in Trent Green a few years ago. I think those are fair expectations out of him. If he ever ends up being more, then that’s just a nice bonus.
It's years like this that I wish I was a bear. Hibernation would make it so much easier.

Lance Long... Wes Welker-ish?
I haven’t seen him play yet, but he is garnering some media attention. What should we expect from him? It seems that third option/ slot type guys have hurt us this year, and I’m hoping a previous no name won’t be next. What are the strengths/ weaknesses of his game?

Yeah he would probably would be a poor mans Wes Welker
some guys over at AP get a little upset about that comparison though b/c they say its b/c hes a little fast white guy but in all fairness Welker is who he reminds me of. He will be thrown at a lot b/c he seems to be one of Cassels new favorite targets. He is a quick speedy slot wideout that we are trying to use a lot on third downs (which we havent been doing well) He is still a little raw but he could be a pretty good player with some time under his belt….does that help?
Heres his stats through 3 games (they arent real flashy)
12 catches 104 yards

Hey tomahawk .. what do you guys make of ..
Pollard’s success over at Houston since he was cut loose by the Chiefs ? Pollard has been getting some props for really helping settle down the Texans D and I watched him in the Texans – Colts game recently and he looked really good ?
Was it just a personality issue with him and Coach Haley ? If so, are you guys worried about Coach Haley’s personality :-) ????

(sobbing uncontrollably)
I’m looking at Pioli’s success in New England and giving him the benefit of the doubt, but the Pollard cutting was probably the worst of his questionable personel descisions that he has made since coming here. The new regime has ruffled their share of feathers and done some things that would have had the previous regime run out of town with fire and pitch forks, so they better start winning soon.

by soon, do you mean next season?
I don’t know how fans could expect a same year turn around. I’ve thought the chiefs were a rebuilding project and as such, wouldn’t expect serious contention from them for at least 2 years, at earliest. If the fans run out Pioli, then it’s 3 to 4+ years before KC gets settled and serious. I feel for you guys, but just hang in tight.

IMO I just want to see improvement
If we dont have atleast 6-8 wins next year I say no progress but I would still like to see 5 wins this year but yeah it will be a while before we are contenders. Thanks for feeling our pain it sucks! And the crazy thing is Im scared that this Sunday there will be more terrible towels than Chiefs fans at Arrowhead its gotten bad in KC..
by tomahawk44 on Nov 17, 2009 11:31 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Did I expect a 1 year turnaround?
No. This team was in shambles after Herm Edwards left. That being said, there is been some regression in some areas which is very disconcerning. We had the worst O-Line in the NFL last year and they’ve done nothing to address it in the offseason via free agency or the draft. I’m no genious, but to me “building a team 101” would start with addressing its biggest issue especially after he threw $60MM at the “QB of the future”.
Speaking of which, please don’t kill Matt Cassel this weekend.

Is there a reason you guys didn’t (couldn’t) get McDaniels instead of Denver?

I don't remember the timeline exactly
But I believe McDaniels was hired before we had Pioli. We needed a new GM before hired the coach. GM was hired late…therefore HC was hired late…therefore we hate no Offensive coordinator and a Defensive coordinator that was so good he was fired after a SB berth.
Timing is a bitch.

There’s also no proof that McDildo would have been able to do anything for you guys anyway. Deny all you want, there is a definite dearth of talent in KC right now. Whereas there is a TON of it in Denver, they just needed direction.

I give zero credit to McDaniels for any success they've had this year
Mike Nolan turned their defense around almost miraculously. I doubt they are still #1 in total defense, but they were a couple weeks back and thats what has been winning them games. (Last year I think they were 31st in total defense) Any success they’ve had is despite “McDildo”

Terrible
Half of AP believe that Pollard is worse than Brown. It is really bad that Chiefs fans don’t know a good young player that is rough and can’t see washed up crap even when it is costing games. Worse part is that the Chiefs PTB can’t either.

Defensively for the Chiefs
Have teams had better success passing or running the ball against your defense? Is there any aspect on the defensive side of the ball at which the Chiefs have been particularly successful?
by worldtrip on Nov 17, 2009 11:04 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
The Chiefs can be quite easily passed on
It seems like every week some reciever has a career day against them. Miles Austin had his coming out party (10 catches, 250 yards 2 touches) against the Chiefs. I think we have a good young secondary but don’t get alot of pressure on the QB and the worst safeties in professional football which exacerbates the problem. Run defense isn’t perfect, but fairly strong. For whatever runs vs the Chiefs look like 2, 1, 2, 3, 4, 2, 1, 0, -1, 64, 2, 1, 2, 1, -3, 54. We have big problem giving up the big play.

The minimum 2 or 3 recs it takes to get a post on the recommended area is usually all we bother with…

Sounds like Steeler fans to me!
Predictions for 2009:
The Chiefs will regret cutting LJ
Bowe's numbers regress due to lack of decent QB play.
The D gets better in the second half but still is plagued by big plays
Cassel looks more like the guy Pioli almost cut in the '08 preseason instead of the franchise QB he hoped he would be when he traded him for
Chiefs 3-13

Yeah we lost, we get double the posts after losses.
This town seriously loves losing more than winning. It’s like QB’s, we love to complain about our QB. Probably why Ben is our perfect QB: He wins a Super Bowl with the worst game in history, takes too many sacks, stinks in the first half, is just a game manager, etc. If we had a Montana or Marino we’d all jump off the Clemente Bridge.

Some of the SBNation blogs do that to combat trolls. Arrowhead Pride is one of the biggest football blogs (if not the biggest) on SBNation so they get a lot of traffic and it probably helps keep some of the trolling and spamming down.
