Around SBN: Celtics, Heat Score On Purpose In Super Sunday Wins

Gatewood added to practice squad

With Donovan Woods replacing Arnold Harrison on the active roster, a practice squad spot opened up. Linebacker Curtis Gatewood has filled that spot.

Undrafted out of Vanderbilt in 2008, he was on practice squads in Washington and Kansas City last year. In 2009, he's been with the practice squads in Detroit and Philly. He has appeared in six games with KC last year, with two tackles (corrects an earlier error).

Gatewood led Vandy with seven sacks his senior season. He played defensive end but at 6'-2", 242, was considered too small for the position in the NFL. If anybody can teach him to be an effective linebacker, it's the Steelers.

Solid player at Vandy...

Should have pretty good upside in the right system. I like the pick up, let’s see what the coaches can do with him.

Just fished up some info on Gatewood

40 time: 4.78

BIOGRAPHY: Two-year starter at defensive end who totaled 34/7/3.5 as a senior after 49 /8/7 the prior year.

POSITIVES: Undersized college defensive end that projects to outside linebacker at the next level. Quickly gets off the snap, moves well laterally and rarely off his feet. Can bend off the edge, shows speed in every direction and effectively pursues the action from the backside. Strong for his size, shows an array of moves working to get off blocks and plays with excellent pad level. Displays a good head for the ball.

NEGATIVES: Slow shedding blocks and handled point of attack. Disappointed scouts as a senior and did not improve his game.

ANALYSIS: Gatewood is an athletic prospect best making plays up the field. He is best suited as a rush linebacker who stands up over tackle in a 3-4 alignment.

Sorry to be a stickler here

But Espn says he has suited up for games at least twice, I’m assuming in the ST role.

Here are his stats, all two of em.

Thanks for the heads up though, maybe they could make him into something.

BTSC Obituaries

OldManSteeler, ominously died two days before Superbowl 123 where the Ravens are set to attempt their 7th superbowl win, facing the Detroit Lions on Sunday. He was 86. His last words are believed to be "MALOR CAN SUCK IT!!!". Like friends and family, we can only guess what this could mean.

If our Scouting Department says pick him up, then the kid has a shot

I noticed that in the games where he was on the 53-man roster, he did make some tackles on special teams. If he can just do that consistently, then he has a shot at eventually making this team.

Yeah, if our STs keeps struggling, he may be on the 53 this year

It would be great if he turned into a demon of a pass rusher

Now if only we could get better in rounds 4-6 of the draft, we’d be the deepest team in the league bar none

Odd

Was on KC practice squad, and the Steelers are playing who this weekend?
I wonder if any Balt practice squad players make the PS PS next week?
Actually I dont’ think they need a PS player from a division opponent.
So lets see if he makes it 3 weeks.
