Deshea Townsend
Is it just me or has anyone noticed that Townsend is constantly getting beat in the secondary...he hasn't made one defensive stop this year that I have noticed. We need to get one of those young guys on the field and retire him. your perspectives please...am I blind?
Secondly, when Ben hits the checkdowns to the backs our offense is better and it can save a lot of pressure on our OL and Ben...I think we need some quick releases.

Deshae will probably be gone after this year no matter how badly (or how well) he plays. I would like to see what the young CB’s can do, though.

Townsend and Gay have both benn liabilities this season
The Chiefs offense came into the game ranked 30th in the NFL! 30th! Our secondary is not getting it done.
very true
He’s been bad and he just got totally wiped out on that big play in OT.

It's Sad
Because Deshea has been a key contributor for 11 years. I remember in ’03, when we were 6-10 and our pass defense was terrible (Brent Alexander, anyone?), people were clamoring for Deshea to step into a starting role.
He did just that, and no matter what he does from here on out, he’ll always go down as a vital part of both Super Bowls.
Deshea will always be one of my favorites
But there comes a time when a guy has just lost a step or two and Deshea didn’t have all that many steps in the first place.
Great player at one time...
But the speed just doesn’t seem to be there anymore. The safety experiment from preseason hasn’t really played out, although he’s seen some snaps back there. He most likely was gone at the end of the year anyways. It’s a shame, I really liked Deshea, but age creeps in on everyone at some point. I’ve noticed the slot guys have beat us almost all year, it’s most likely time to try some fresher legs in the nickel.

OUR
Secondary has been suspect for many years. The long ball has always been our achilles. Without Troy the help back there those boys look more confused than blind fags at a weiner roast!!!
Every day brings future to past, every breath leaves me one less to my last. DT
Weren't we the number 1 ranked pass D last year?
And lay off the gay jokes please.

I think our habit of playing 10 yds off the receiver makes for alot of frustration and probably the perception that our secondary is worse than it really is. We have been giving up too many yds this year though.
The gay joke isn’t necessary. Not funny and makes you look like a crass moron.
I still don't understand why they play 10 yards off.
Is it because once they get beat then the only way they can meet the WR is in the endzone during the TD celebration?
Or it is part of Lebeau’s D?
The defense only surrendered 17 points in regulation.
And 3 of those points should be credited to the offense after the long INT. The defense could have played better, but Coach Dad’s unit performed well enough to win. It was special teams and offense that lost the day.

Burnett to take Townsend's slot job next year
Whoever this team drafts next year in the secondary better be able to play special teams and have Troy P. speed. I think Ryan Clark is showing that his game is on the decline and the Steelers don’t resign players who are on the decline.
Have to get a couple of corners out of this draft as well, particularly one who can double as a kick returner and both who have enough speed to play press and the hands to pick off a pass.
What about moving Willie Gay to free safety next year and have he and Ryan Mundy compete for a starting spot there (of course, that would mean Keenan Lewis had better be ready to start opposite of Ike)? Always thought Gay was better coming forward in coverage to the ball than backpedaling, turning and running and trying to defend the pass.
Eh, Gay at safety?
How effective of a tackler is he? Ask Adrian Peterson (horrible, horrible example, I know). Keenan Lewis is a bigger, more physical type of corner. I could see him in the safety spot, maybe. Move Willie back to nickel back (the position not the band that makes my ears bleed) where he was pretty good last year. We need a number 2 corner desperately, in my opinion.
Where Burnett fits into this is the key. He can return punts and kicks, has shown that he can catch a pick or two, and is pretty speedy to boot (not blazing, but more than servicable).

They need to get a shut down corner
Ike is so solid but he will be next in line to age as we are seeing with Deshea, Carter and Clark. Oh and go get a beast to learn from Troy as well. Before we know it Troy will be aging.
Keep the door closed
Don’t push them all out the door yet especially someone as special as Troy…the last time that happened we lost Rod Woodson, worst day in Steeler history as far as I am concerned!
I like the old gray beard Deshea...
Dallas last year anyone? He is showing a little age now though. Bring on the youngsters and let’s see what they have. With Troy playing though, we probably wouldn’t even notice.
