Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

thoughts on Big ben..

Whether we win, lose or draw, for the season, it is clear to me that BB HAS to change his style, somewhat..I know he is exciting to watch him run around and extend the play, but..it will shorten his career..He has Ken Anderson as his QB coach, who was a pretty good pocket passer in his day..he could tutor BB on how, at least to throw the ball away or, get rid of the ball quickly..Is it all on the O line? Maybe..in his first 2 years, he didnt get sacked all that much..but now..OUCH!  I do think this decision was not his..He is a warrior and would want to play in this game..

plus..

He NEVER gets call for roughing the passer, when Brady cries to the refs and get the flag! Just ask the Ravens about that! Even steeler fans and raven fans agree on that!

True on the roughing...

Should have been a flag on the play Ben was hurt on…..knee to the head – pretty obvious.

Accidental

Ben misjudged his dive and copped a stray knee. Johnson wasnt leading with the knee, it was just an unfortunate mishap. Thats football

So if you dive and a guys knee happens to be there, its a flag? No.

Also, he left the pocket, so all the roughing the passer flags go out the window.

And he opted to dive head first, and is one of the only QBs to opt to do so.

Weve won two superbowls with Big Bens style of play

Look at College tape, look at NFL tape. The only way Big Ben knows how to play is on the edge. He doesnt give an inch, he doesnt go down without a fight

Barry Sanders only had to play 10 years to carve his legacy as one of the most unique runners in history, Big Ben has played the QB position with the physical mentality of a Linebacker.

Many of the greatest throws and plays season in and out are done by Ben and his wonderous style.

If his career is cut short due to injury, then he will have gifted us with the way he plays. He should only change if he believes in it, not because people think he should

He will likely play the game the only way he knows how.

well...

he didnt get sacked all that much his first 2 years…why??

by nycsteelerfan on Nov 29, 2009 9:54 AM EST reply actions

That’s complete and utter BS.

2004-295 attempts, 30 sacks. Sacked 10% of the time.
2005-268 attempts, 23 sacks. Sacked 8.5% of the time.

2008-469 attempts, 46 sacks. Sacked 9.8% of the time.
2009-344 attempts, 29 sacks. Sacked 8.4% of the time.

so...

Whats your recomendation? Sometimes he takes sacks that take us out of FG range too..

Teach him not to extend plays

But you take away plays like the TD that won the SB.

not that..

but to avoid the sack by throwing the ball away..

That is exactly the same thing.

I’m not a coach and I don’t give recommendations. I do call out BS though.

BTW...

Terry changed his style..he all over the place, like BB and a cpl of injuries later, he matured into a hall of fame QB…BUT, BB MUST change, at least a liitle to save his career and most importantly, himself! Remember, QBs like BB dont grow on trees! Even if you draft one, no guarantees he will be any good…then you got the growing pains, etc, etc…we were spoiled with BB, because, except for the playoffs, in his first year, he was very good! keep in mind a the SHIT QBs we had before BB!

by nycsteelerfan on Nov 29, 2009 10:18 AM EST reply actions

That style is what makes Ben a really qb

If you just made him a pocket passer, he would be far less effective, especially with your putrid OL.

He just need to learn how to slide. Romo extends play like Ben but rarely gets hurt, Roethlisberger just need to run smarter.

In Romo we Trust
