Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

The Real World - Berea

Berea, OH is a suburb of Cleveland and home to the Browns' disorganizational offices.

There is a special place in Steeler Heaven for black and gold fans in Ohio. Cincinnati Bengal fans are mildly annoying, though the Mike Brown Era has made them largely toothless (and clawless) and they aren't too hard to ignore.

Browns fans are the rudest, most obnoxious fans in the NFL. Now, that said, living in Columbus, I do have several friends who are Browns fans. If they were jerks, they wouldn't be friends. But you go to a bar with a large number of Browns fans and they are just overbearing asses. I still remember watching a game in the nineties at a bar and the Steelers lost to the Oilers. The Browns were having another sub-.500 year and some fans at the bar were doing Browns cheers as the Steelers game finished up. That's just typical.

So, it is absolutely AWESOME that this year, as the Browns field a team that is even more incompetent than the expansion one they started up back in 1999. that  they seem to be modeling this season on the worst of the Raiders and the Redskins. It has literally gotten worse, week by week, both on and off the field. For most teams, the QB situation would be a 'worst of the year' disaster. But that's just a small piece of it.

They should make a reality show out of the Browns' season. It's great!

Normally

I am not one to revel in the misfortune of others. However, living in Ohio myself, I must admit that it has been rather entertaining to watch the season unravel for the Browns. With the exception of a few of my close friends that are Browns fans, I have to agree that they can be insufferable when in large numbers. I was watching the Steelers-Vikings game at a local establishment and there were only two Vikings fans in the whole place, the rest were either Steelersr fans or wearing Browns colors. Funny thing is that none of them were even watching their game, they were all cheering against the Steelers. Annoying to say the least. Victory was sweet as they quietly sulked in their beers…….then skulked away, already talking about NEXT year.

Fans of struggling franchises

I was just pointing this out today…

Oakland has lost 13 straight to their rivals (Chargers). The Raiders’ fans that I know will grudgingly admit that they, well, suck. I know some Lions’ fans who say, we’re not as bad as you think. (Pressed, they will admit that they are pretty bad, though.)

However, Browns’ fans, instead of facing facts, will claim at every chance that the “Steelers suck.” It’s never about them, is it?

Definitely worse in groups

I did mean to make the point that the ‘jerk syndrome’ usually takes over when they gather in numbers, be it at bars or games. Individually, the obnoxious level usually, though not always, drops down some.

Except, as Saudi noted, they almost always shift the topic to something like “Yeah, but at least Quinn didn’t rape anybody” or the like. That’s an actual response I got from a Browns fan.

And even though I bear the usual Steeler dislike of the Cowboys, Raiders, etc, it’s only the Browns misfortunes that I absolutely revel in. A life in Ohio rooting for the Steelers made me that way. And I even liked a few Browns, like Bernie Kosar and Clay Matthews.

+1

I agree completely about the jerk syndrome. Many of our own fans act the same way at times, so I do my best not to.Being humble in victory is something that I value, and I never go out of my way to “rub someon’es nose in it” as they say. Part of the reason for this was growing up a Steelers fan in Ohio was not always easy, and even many adults would never miss an opportunity to give me grief about my team. I vowed that I would never duplicate that kind of behavior, no matter how much I thought the other jerk deserved it. I try to always root for MY team and not actively and outrageously for another, just because they play the Browns.

Anthony Madison Cut

So, the Browns fired their GM yesterday, but they’re still making roster cuts today. They let go Anthony Madison and Billy Cundiff. Yeah, the kicker and a special teams demon were the problems.

This franchise is a joke!

I think this can be said about all fanbases

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read on this site, and others, about how bad Steelers fans are when gathered in groups. Strength in numbers…it typically leads to bullying the lesser (always Browns fans, btw).
Raiders fans are awful out where I am, and they are especially merciless when it comes to the Steelers.

Yeah, but...

Generally, I agree. I’m a die-hard Ohio State Buckeye and Buckeye fans in groups are huge jerks to the other team’s fans.

But I’ve also lived in Colorado and Texas and Broncos, Texans and Cowboys fans weren’t nearly as bad as Browns fans.

Understandable…Broncos are a solid franchise, winning two SBs at the end of the 90’s. Cowboys, while a mildly entertaining soap opera, are still one of the country’s great franchises. And the Texans…well, there’s always an anamoly….

What do Browns fans have? LeBron? they certainly don’t have football to be proud of.

Mangini learned on the Sopranos

The daily soap opera continues. Mangini, who handpicked Kokonis as GM, certainly appears to have stuck the knife in his former friend’s back.

Now, he’s quoted as saying he’ll surely have some say into who the new GM is. The guy is absolutely clueless. I think he’s trying to bluster his way through this debacle he’s enmeshed in (being the architect of it).

Mangini believes in the Belichick approach of being a jerk and communicating as little as possible. The difference being he’s not good at being a head coach, which Bill B. is. Good thing for the Steelers that Randy Lerner literally sprinted to Mangini’s door to hire him as soon as the Jets fired him.

Clowns.
