Keeping our heads high
Well, we just couldn't grab the win in OT in Baltimore...:(
A lot to be proud of in this one.
Be Proud of:
- For 4+ quarters, Dennis Dixon kept us toe-to-toe with one of the more stingy defenses in the NFL as best as a man with his experience could.
- Santonio Holmes played well early on, scoring a huge TD in the first half.
- Bruce Arians ran the ball, and Rashard Mendenhall did a solid job doing it against a nasty run d.
- The Pass Rush in General: Racking up 5 sacks on Uni-brow
- LaMarr Woodley and Lawrence Timmons again left me with good feelings on the future of this defense.
- We kept even with our bitter rivals for four and a half quarters in a hostile environment, missing our top 2 players and change, and lost with dignity by only losing by a mere sum of 3.
- The Offensive Line: Not one sack allowed I believe, decent job run blocking, especially missing Kemo
- Hines Ward, for being the eternal middle finger from us, to Baltimore.
Be pissed at:
- Special Teams: again allowed way too many yards, and nearly two major punt returns
- The Secondary: Did not play well tonight. Penalties, getting burnt, missing tackles; a whole host of absolute no-no's.
- The Jekyll version of Dennis Dixon aka Dixon vs the Zone or I-can't-hit-a-barn Dixon.
- BA: Tut tut Arians, you could have escaped this list if you had called another boot leg with Dixon in overtime. Otherwise a pretty good job calling this game considering the circumstances.
- Baltimore: Hey, gotta hand it to 'em, they beat us fair and square, but I'd like to see them try it again in Pittsburgh in a couple weeks, when Ben and Troy are back in action (plllleaaaaaasssseeeee).
In Conclusion, this is not the end of the season. Does it make things harder now? Absolutely. Do we have to win out to make the playoffs? You bet. Is Poe the Raven a d***** bag? Yup.

Great post.
This game was a great one, straight down to the wire, I’d love to see a rematch with Troy on Rice instead of Farrior. Anyone notice that being a trend, Farrior has lost a step, and it’s obvious when Troy is out. Nobody to cover the fast backs and TE’s.
Dixon looked good, but he did look like a rookie. I’d love to see him play next week too. We need Ben healthy.
I would have loved to beat Baltimore for a fourth straight time, but now I just want to win at home and knock them out of the playoffs. Imagine the Steelers and Ravens at home when the playoffs start, it could still happen.
Nobody to cover the fast backs and TE’s.
Not quite true, it’s just that Timmons was unfortunately set to blitz that down.

Actually
Timmons covered Heap on the play. I thought the same thing at first that Timmons should have been there so I re-watched for 94. He went out with Heap and had good coverage on him.

I noticed that

I should have worded that differently, the point I was making is we can’t handle teams that have a good TE and RB, we have Timmons and Troy. You need more option than that.

ha yah right!
"That’s been our story all year. We’ve got a team that doesn’t blink in the face of adversity. It’s never going to be pretty or perfect, if you will, but they’ve got a great deal of belief in one another. They’ve got a great deal of resolve, and it was put on display. Our defense gets a lot of recognition for what they’re capable of, and rightfully so, but what you saw from our quarterback and our offense at the end of that football game is what they’ve provided for us all year. When we’ve needed it the most, they’ve done it and done it big. That’s a rerun for us."

Yeah right to which part?
That we will be 7-5 after a win? Or that we are still in the hunt with a win?
If we win, both are true.

I expected us to lose
So I’m not very beat up about it. Tomlin sure was pissed off in the press conference though.
we’re pretty much done for the season…hope you got that part already we’re done

Sorry...
I don’t share your enthusiasm. This is a team that finds ways to lose, not ways to win and is most definitely on a Superbowl hangover. Lack of desire, composure, clutch team wins, a team that won’t go beyond the first round if it manages to make the playoffs. Of course they can play better and maybe they will, they’re very talented, but they just don’t look like a team on a mission right now. Underachievers is what they are. They should be 9-2 at worst, but they keep losing the close ones…
Bullseye
Aside from from a couple of guys, the team has had a serious lack of urgency. Like they got nothing to prove. I felt this early in the season, but had hope that someone got the message out that champions play hard 60 minutes of every game and don’t accept defeat when they started playing well. It’s worse to lose when you know you have the better team.
P.S.- I knew last night would be an iffy proposition, but we lost a bunch with Ben runnin the offense. Not the case with Troy in the game.
Good point
Troy is really unreplaceable. We simply don’t have another playmaker back there. Although Carter has come up big on a few occasions, he lacks speed and the other guys have hands of stone. I still support the Steelers big time, mind you, but the fire is not there right now and that whole 50/50 thing by Hines Ward isn’t helping!
i agree, utter disappointment. way to go steelers

He played like a man today, the expectations do not change
This is Pittsburgh Steeler Troy Polamalu getting knocked around by the Pacific Ocean in Hawaii yesterday...
Minutes later, Troy caught the ocean going over the middle and smacked it right in the mouth. The ocean fumbled, Troy recovered and ran it into the endzone. The ocean never messed with Troy again.
O line
was more than good

Not Happy With The Result
Great game as far as entertainment. Typical, edge of the seat against the Ravens. Dixon played very well, the D played well overall….I was not happy with the play calling though. They could have done a better job calling plays to Dixon’s strengths. This should have been a win.
The season is NOT over by any stretch, we’re just in a bigger whole than we should be. The team is better than we’ve seen so far. Time to get the hats on straight.
Simple as getting BB and Troy back...
I have been surprised at the overall run D with Aaron Smith out. KO coverage is better, but we’d better watch out on punt returns. I think that we can win out and get into the playoffs. You can bet your last dollar that Tomlin is gonna have these guys playing crazy from here on out. It is must-win time and we all know that they’ll bring it. GO STEELERS!!!

title confused me...
took it the wrong way after that crazy holiday weekend. I thought last night I would be way more bummed today. I don’t think anything feels worse than losing to the Bengals for me.

and, the truth is,
we were way overdue to loose to the ravens, so it may as well have been now when we could accomplish all the postives listed above, ( bk.-up qb,, rashard, o-line without ben, ) and more,,,, still have an injuries excuse for the loss,,,, and the motivation to go on an very doable sprint to 11-5,, a record that has missed the playoffs only a couple times since the 16 game schedule,,,,,,,now, we know we can run, not just run after being set up by the pass.
and, i actually think we played the ravens better than a couple times in the last 5 games that we were lucky enough to win.
i probably shouldn’t say this cause no one would but, maybe ben sandbagged or was sandbagged from an inevitable loss of a game cause that would be the best way to win the season,,,,,,,,,
(hasn’t it been accepted a couple times this yr to allow an easy score to get the ball back with time,,,,,,and hasn’t it been acceptable to rest starters in non meaningful games before the playoffs????)
thats why hines was pissed this morning cause he smelled cheese and don’t really know whoose to blame. too bad cause thats the only thing that could ruin a a tough but correct gambit.
The Paul Kruger INT was a heck of catch for a WO
let alone a DE who beat us at our own game on a Zone Blitz

2 solid teams
As we near crunch time & play off picture comes into play, obviously all teams have issues to deal with. What I saw Sunday night was 2 solid teams with some weaknesses go at it. Ravens are inconsistent & will need to right their ship. Steelers problems with special teams & 4th quarter losses are very apparent. That said, I think the Steelers with their schedule are in a perfect position to play their best ball when they need to & will be the dark horse to make the play offs & win it all. Sitting Ben was the smartest move last Sunday. Put him back on the field 100%, bring Troy back 100% & plug the holes on special teams & the Steelers will be able to do the little bit more we’ve needed to win the close games they haven’t been able to close. Kudos to Dixon for playing well enough to win. Get better Ben & Troy. it’s time to play some football!! GO STEELERS!!
Where Have You Gone Johnny U?
yo exiler
thats exactly what i was tryin to say above,,,,,,the best thing to do was sit ben for that game,,,,
i’m pretty sure we can be pissed at our joke of losses and making our team look like a ridiculous legacy. this year isn’t about all the losses we’ve had and bad games its the way we did it that is makihng us look like fiools
