Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Overall, a better showing than expected

In the wake of another disappointing loss, it's easy to dwell on the negative. But not only were the Steelers in this game from start to finish, we had a great shot at winning. When you're able to play competitively, even with a backup QB who had never started a regular season NFL game, that says a lot about your team.

Star-divide

The only thing that made me want to pull out my hair was when we had the Ravens in a 3rd and 22 late in the 4th quarter. Then we gave up a 17-yd, pass right down the middle and another big play on 4th and 5 that was nearly a game-winning TD for the Ravens. This was a series when our defense absolutely had to shut down the Ravens and we didn't get it done.

But playing without Ben and Troy, maybe we did about as well as anyone could possibly expect. I don't like Arians but I'm not going to hang this loss on him. It's just a shame that we couldn't have pulled this one out.

But we're still in the hunt and, who knows, maybe we'll run the table with 5 straight wins. Dixon got some much needed game experience and Mendenhall continued to show what a tough and elusive runner he is. Let's hope that we'll get a healthy Ben and Troy back for the rest of the season.

GO STEELERS!

That 3rd and 22 was horrendous. Stop them there and yo have 4th and 20 and they would have had to punt.
This was typical of the Steelers defense all year. The secondary gives up HUGE plays at the worst possible time. It started in the Super Bowl last year when Fitz caught the 70 yard TD and we needed Ben’s heroics.

It says something when we rely so much on Troy to cover for the rest of the defense as often as we do.

The season isn’t over, but we will need the young players to start stepping up if we want to continue playing at the top.

I halfway agree

The Troy excuse is not applicable. As great as he is, he isn’t the answer to all what ails this team. However, with the secondary unable to cover even the worst of NFL Wide Receivers and now a potential locker room strife after Hines Ward’s ill timed interview about Big Ben, this season is spiraling down the drain. Mike Tomlin has his toughest job yet.

I think tv made his comments

more of a drama than it was. He was straight up, and I’m sure there’s no loss of respect. I don’t believe he would’ve have said anything like that if he felt it detrimental to the team.

"Now that I'm here, I don't want to just be here, I want to be here for a long time." Hines Ward, 1998 4th round draft pick.

If you actually knew everytime a locker room was split

you would not be worried at all. They are million dollar athletes. They don’t get to this level without being abrasive to an extent. They feel like if you can’t be a man around men like these warriors then they can be male cheerleaders. Don’t look too much into this. It happens. It happens to the best of them. These gusy have been around Hines for a long time. Don’t you think they know him by now?

But they should be like the 70’s Steelers, who loved each other and were bestest friends and had slumber parties together, that was a real team. No turmoil in that locker room.
