Charlie Weis
I know this would never happen becasuse its not the "STeeler Way" but how I would love to fire Ariens and hire Weis if there was anytime to do it it would be not even as an advisor for the remainder of the season. That would do a couple of things for this team.
1. Time toput Ariens on call to let him know to start getting it right or your gone
2. Knowing that if we do make the playoffs that we will probably have to play the Patriots and who can help this team more than someone who knows everything about 'ol Brain than one of his closest assistants
3. Knowing that Ben has yet to come full circle who better to help him than the man that help to make a Hall a Fame Quarterback career what it is. (lets be honest if it weren't for the two SB would people really recognize Ben as a HF QB)
4. Lets just call it like it is who would you honestly like calling the shots Ariens or Weis

ha, ha.
whats the nd. clown qb’s name that my memory justifiably doesn’t remember right now,,,,,the one who was all world recruit that weiss had, but isn’t even mentioned for the hiessmann?//// or maybe he did a better job coaching the easily forgettable brady quinn to preparation for a part time starting job in cleveland,
Jimmy Clausen. He is projected to be a top 10-15 pick though.

Don't like Weis but
I’m done with Ariens.
If you buy a foreign made product you give money to a person who will not be buying an American made produdt that you get paid to make. Think about it next time you're at the store.
Or
Keep Ariens as OC, but, let Weis call the plays. Weis would (I think) repeat a play that worked and toss a play that didn’t as the game went along.

Weis, but just barely
I saw Weis the last 2 years at coaching clinics. He has a good mind for offensive football and I can barely watch the Steelers at times due to BA’s play-calling. That said, Weis is pass-happy and is not necessarily commited to the run game. New England got away with running the ball here and there. My contention is that the Steelers were out-coached during the Patriot’s hey-dey much of the time. This includes the beloved LeBeau at times. The Steelers offense struggled aginst NE because they took away Bettis. The Steelers could not neutralize NE’s best offensive weapon – Brady.
If you have Brady and 3 or 4 good weapons AND the OL to protect the QB – you can look real good as a play caller while throwing it 40+ times per game. Bad OL = lots of sacks, concussions and injuries to your QB. The fact that BB holds onto the ball compounds this even more.
The Steelers have great weapons but the OL is very inconsistent. The offense looks unstoppable one series and goes backwards the next. This is primarily due to the OL being very average at best, BA seemingly calling plays at random and Ben’s preference to hold onto the ball at all costs in an effort to make the big play.
Weis getting fired is not the long-term answer at ND. Admissions standards = talent on the field and they don’t have enough to compete with the top 15-20 teams each year. The AD and administration can cover there asses by firing the coach. The average alum or fan doesn’t see what coaches see. I see ND as an average team talent-wise, especially in the speed and game-breaking positions like HB, WR, DB and kick return guys. Can you imagine Stanford or ND playing in the SEC every week? Different world should equal different expectations. We’ll never know what those admission standards are at any given time but you can see it in the overall talent level over time.

thanks franz
its nice to hear an imformed opinion,,,,,,i agree with your steeler assesment,,,,,but the o-line has improved and so has rashard,to the point that we can run now without it being set up by the pass,,,, this is the first time in 2 yrs. at least(demonstrated sunday)
our problems with the pats is one no steel fan would care to recognize, yet alone admit……they beat us physically in all meaningful games this decade. not as much as the saints did them last night, but enough. no scheme no matter how bright can overcome that consistantly.
i’m not an nd. fan,,,, but its easy to see the ad and execs are saving their own by firing the coach. maybe nd’s problem is attitude rather than academics,,,,,,,blame it on television ,,,,,,but too many recruits today would rather emulate miami of the 80’s vice than fighting father duffy of the fifties.
maybe , nd should reinvent themselves as their original selves,,,,,play only smaller academic schools only say they’re being true to what they believe in,,,,,,
they could still out recruit navy , north western, duke, temple, go undefeated,,,,and be a bowl darling yr after yr as everyones favorite ledgendary underdog,,,
where would nd. be if they had boise st’s record with a simular opposition power rating………not fighting, clawing and being dissed for yrs…….there would be public clamoring that they be given’ a shot at the big marbles and the networks would comply in spite of the best team they beat being boston college and they had to wear green jerseys to do that.
I'd like a 3rd option
No one in particular, just “Somebody Else…Please, for the love of God”. I’d pick the same option if he/she/it were up against Bob Ligashesky. Same goes for Zierlein, even though I know the OL is supposedly improved this year. And, yes, I realize that they all have SB rings! So does Mitch Berger.

Agreed.
I agree with those who question whether Weis would be a good fit.
Unless Mike Mularky or someone like him appears on the job market, I think the Steelers’ next OC is going to be a college coach moving up to the pros, or a NFL position coach/assistant moving up to OC.
Have you realized
That the only people that LOVE Notre Dame are white guys in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and so on?
Ask any high school kid these days about the Gipper, Knute Rockne, or the Four Horsemen and you’ll get a blank stare. That stuff doesn’t matter to kids these days. ND is still relying on the aura that they had decades ago and that doesn’t win football games.
ND can still be a national power, they just won’t dominate like they used to. Too much parity in the college game.
Jerome Bettis doesn't match any of that
"A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty." - Winston Churchill
thats right
but 36 is an anomaly and, remember , location, location, location,,,,,,but they could still recruit well enough to beat army , navy, etc,,,,and all those old white men and their followers that make television markets and fill bowl towns would clamor for an undeteated nd. to play and the talking heads would grab the cliche’ legendary story lines no matter how entirely soft the schedule was…..i watch nd regularly to root against them.
What's wrong with old white guys?
"A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty." - Winston Churchill
How about Tony Rice and Tim Brown??
a) Old, white guys are the largest group of guys in this country.
b) Old, white guys comprise the vast majority of college alumni interested in football
c) Old, white guys support all the other teams you mentioned
Is it old, white guys you dislike or ND or both?
Kids choose a school :
1) where they can play
2) where they get exposure
3) where they believe they will win
4) where they think they get the best chance of getting drafted
If Notre Dame doesn’t let a certain segment of HS seniors in for academic reasons, they naturally have a smaller talent pool. Whether those eligible to enter decide to go shrinks that number yet again. Some kids would never go to Notre Dame, others would never go to Rutgers or Mississippi State or Oregon.
Having ample talent capable of being admitted, plus having ample talent nearby makes for a potent combination – witness USC and Florida as the prime examples. Big population, big time HS football and plenty of it. Kids by and large stay in-state or in the region of the country they live in. Notable exceptions would be Hawaii, Boise State and a few others. Even though I love what they do at Boise State – what are their admissions requirements compared to Northwestern, ND, Stanford, Cal and others? How would they fair in the Big 10, ACC, Pac 10 or SEC each week?
