Officials in a small Dauphin County borough now say that they will not enforce an ordinance that prohibited a Steelers fan from hanging a banner on her front porch that supports the team.
Alissa Myers received a warning letter from the Penbrook zoning manager on Sept. 30, telling her that the 2-foot-by-8-foot "You're in Steelers Country," banner violated the borough code.
Yesterday, the American Civil Liberties Union sent borough manager and zoning officer James Armbruster a letter telling him that the ordinance controlling signage was unconstitutional.
The ACLU threatened to file a First Amendment lawsuit against Penbrook if the borough pursued sanctions against Ms. Myers.
Yesterday, solicitor Bruce Foreman said he'd be happy to work with the ACLU to revise the sign ordinance and today sent a follow-up letter confirming that.
In it, Mr. Foreman asked if ACLU officials could provide suggestions for the ordinance before a scheduled borough council meeting on Monday.
In the same letter, Mr. Foreman said Ms. Myers will not be cited for hanging her banner.
Great Story and EPIC WIN for issues such as...mm i dont know.. Censorship?
Glad the Banner can be seen by all, now lets go BEAT THE BROWNS!!
