And some of you really want this team to go to the playoffs?

They are awful.

by Billy52 on Dec 10, 2009 9:55 PM EST reply actions

From that to this....

I understand losing top defensive players really hurts……No Troy and no Smith is huge.

I know the secondary is in shambles…..but this is insane and there is NO excuse for the O to be playing like this!!!!

I just dont get how this team goes from what it was last year to what it is this year. I dont fully buy into the coaching staff being at fault either….I dont think they’re doing anything different from last year.

As far as the O goes. I have no clue.

But really….no troy, no smith, no Bmac, no Foote…..it’s killing the men of steel. KILLING.

by Ragnar808 on Dec 10, 2009 9:55 PM EST reply actions

Here Here

Losing a top player at every level on defense is killing this team. I would hope the rest of the team would learn to tackle and not over pursue. These cornerbacks crack me up. No interceptions in 13 games, but they jump around beating there chest like they’re the best. Plus we have an O-line built to run the ball, not pass protect. It sucks when you give up more sacks then points scored. Now since I live in Cleveland, I have to hear this crap for a whole year. Thanks for the great prep work coach

Tomlin better make some changes

The current lineup has ruined the Steelers season over the past four to five games. No reason to stick with the same guys until the ship is completely sunk.

Who do you sit

Apart from maybe gay? – The rookies have been rotating and I can’t say they’ve looked all that good, so far. Real problem is tackling in the second tier and special teams.

First Half slummary

*Cribbs runs a muffed punt back to the 9 yd. line.
*Woodley missed a pick (but otherwise played great)
*Sepulveda kicked a 36-yard punt.
*Ben was sacked 5 times.
*Taylor blew the coverage on 3rd and 12, to give the Browns a big play—nearly a TD.
*3rd and 1: Mendy off-tackle doesn’t get 1st down.
*Carter’s penalty on a Browns punt takes a fumble recovery away from the Steelers.

You guy's better read this, cuz I didn't do research for nothing! :P BUT the game is too tight right now, so I forgive u for not reading

(and I ended up posting it on the first half thread by accident, such an idiot, and so nervous right now)

Anywhoo, so I looked at every Super Bowl champions record after they’ve won it and this is what I got:
Packers 68’ (6-7), Raiders 81 (7-9), Niners ’82 (3-6), Giants ’87 (6-9), Redskins ’88 (7-9), Broncos ’99 (6-10), Bucs ’03 (7-9)

The Packers still played in the 13 game seasons, we’ll exclude that, the Niner’s played in that weirdo season of ‘82, and (yes that’s a horrible record) and the rest speaks for itself. So it’s not the worst ever, cuz even if we lose out, we’d be tied with the ‘99 Bronco’s but that’s a team that saw it’s franchise QB retire so I give it to them. I have no clue why the ‘87 season was 15 games though, too tired to look that up, but 6 out of 15 is still better than 6 out of 16. So that leaves me with a conclusion the worst post SB meltdown is by the Bronco’’s but again that was with a new QB after Elway, so damn… we might be up here and that weird list if things go badly (I only looked at losing records not .500 seasons, there were a few of those, our Steelers are one of them :P)

I’m sorry – Tomlin looks pretty on the sidelines & gives a good press conference; he won a Super Bowl with a loaded team from another coach’s regime. Sounds like a good HEAD coach to me.

by Sick Puppy on Dec 10, 2009 11:23 PM EST up reply actions

ummm the coach doesn’t determine personnel, the GM does, you have a problem with the players on the team, complain about him. Yes Tomlin is well spoken, didn’t know that was a knock against him. Yes, he did win a Superbowl, something a lot of coaches haven’t done. Wanting him fired after one disappointing season with a lot of important injuries… that’s just stupid.

I’ll take Tomlin as a coach of my favorite team over thousands of fans with that type of mentality any day of the week.

Honestly

I’ve seen some bad losses as a Steeler fan, but this streak of 5 is the most embaressing thing I’ve seen in football. I don’t quite know what to say. Tomlin should honestly be embarressed for his players, his staff and himself.

It’s one thing to drop 5 against bad teams if you have no talent, that is to say if you are a team like the Browns or Raiders.
But if you have a stacked line-up of veterans who just won the Superbowl and you can’t steal one from the Raiders, Chiefs and Browns, while fighting for your play-off lives, than all I can say is that you are poorly motivated, poorly coached football team.

I am not ready to call for Tomlin’s head, but if he doesn’t fire BA, or manage to do something to shake up this group, than I am guessing that a lot of people will. With this kind of collapse, it would be hard to blame them.

LOL

what to do. It’s a fickle sport. A brutal sport. But I have to say, as good as Tomlin looked last year, is as bad as he has looked during his collapse. It seems like a perfect storm, and it’s hard to put the blame on him.
But with 5 incredibly bad games by his team, against inferior competition, the only thing he really did to adjust was have Holmes return kicks and have Joe Burnett rotate in on every 4th series.
Not exactly doing the trick

This is the pros, and not the 1950’s Steelers.. If it is not working, changes must be made.. The execution of the players and the D bailed out BA last year.. This year his weakness is exposed. There are a number of play callers sitting out unemployed who can do better..

And while we are reviewing coaches, although we didn’t give up and returns for TD’s, special teams coach, L-sky has to go also..

it was all bad offense...?????

we were scorin pretty good earlier this year, so it’s not the players… is it Ben? the concussion maybe? were our receivers ever really open? are they just not that good? have they quit, while playing THE FREAKING BROWNS? Or has our play calling become so predictable that the browns defenders were always in the right place at the right time…?

First of all we have to look at it as it is and get rid of players like James Farrior, Ike Taylor, William Gay, Deshea Townsend, Tyrone Carter and a few others. Taylor on 3rd and 19 is 5 yards off his man and he catches the ball for a first down. They quit and they can’t do anything about it now…

He won the SB w cowhers team. This year he made his changes… and they failed.

I’ve long been a proponent of his but I think this season rests on his shoulders.

And after such an embarassing performance these 5 games I don’t see a way forward that involves him.

Where the hell was the no huddle? We got the ball with 6:16 left in the game, but kept huddling and snapping the ball with 1 second left on the play clock. We put all of our eggs in 1 basket by putting everything on the line with the last drive. We burned over 4 minutes off of the clock and used 2 timeouts. We gave ourselves no chance for another posession. Horrible clock management. Terrible play calling. Ultimately, it’s Tomlin’s fault, but they won’t fire him. Bruce must go now!

I kept thinking the same thing

Also why do they finally decide to put Santonio in on special teams in the 4th qtr of a must win game?

to be fair

we got a quick score in the raiders game, and then so did the raiders… us fans have the luxury of hind-sight. I personally was rooting for a long drive and then try the 2 point conversion.

AMEN!!!

I watched a microcosm of our entire season on that last drive. We played like we had 15 minutes on the clock. No sense of urgency. Just lackadaisical play which was an exact replica of what we have been doing all season. The only game that looked good was the Denver game and that seems like light years away now!

Lets cut to the chase...

As MT has kept saying starting his last few post game pressers.. he needs a new line..

I will be wearing my steeler gear tomorrow, rooting like hell for them next week, and still enjoying the ride while bleeding black & gold..

Thanks

I sit at work in Cleveland, Ohio. I am eating my words for breakfast, and I wanted to thank Coach Tomlin for the prep job for last nights game. You really unleashed hell on the Clowns last night. There is no pride in this team, it shows in all 3 phases of the game.

Cornerbacks....

Our cornerbacks have ZERO interceptions in 13 games. Time to bring back Blount.

Mel Blount

I am sure he could use the $ at this point given his Federal tax case.

Dawg Pound Poops on P Town!

I can’t even begin to explain the ABSOLUTE BEST CLEVELAND XMAS EVER to all you Steeler fans! The steelers are out of the playoffs!! Nice job Defending the title that all of the NFL knows should have gone to Arizona! Ben has a few too many dings to the head(motorcycle duh) and oh sacked 8 more times…I’m thinkin BIG BEN has had too many beers and meatloaf sandwiches on the Southside! He is fat, cocky and slow. Oh yea he forced hisfat self on a drunk girl too! Ben is not focused! Ben is done, and is costing you your future due to his salary and future cap!!!

Browns are on the way up! Watching you fans lose to the Raiders at home was so much fun too! Watching all those Steeler fans driving home after the 13-6 loss on the Turnpike was just awesome. Steeler fans can’t even muster up a "good game" comment—SAD. Steeler fan get ready for a long road a ho! Oh and Tomlin is living off of Coach Cowhlers great work he did! Tomlin will take you to the bank-but not with any Super Bowl wins!!

Here is to the Browns drafting Toby Gehrhardt! Beautiful Browns days ahead!
