Question regarding James Farrior's sack-fumble
I was watching the game Monday morning in my office at work, so the sound was off, and I may have missed the commentators mentioning something about this. When James Farrior strip sacked Joe Flacco, just before the end of regulation, the Ravens recovered the football about 5 yards ahead of where the fumble occurred. It was my understanding that any fumble in the the fourth quarter, or at least the last two minutes, which was recovered by the offense, was to be placed at the spot where the ball was fumbled, unless the player who fumbled recovered it. Yet, Sunday night's game it clearly wasn't. Have I missed something?

No - you are correct
The announcers discussed this at the time. This goes back to the “Holy Roller” performed by Stabler and Casper of the hated Raiders (against San Diego if memory serves).
Ended up not mattering but can you imagine if that kick squeaks over the cross bar and the Steelers lose at that point?
"Franz" in NoCal
Al Michaels called it during the game.
Had Oakland’s FG been good, the Steelers would have had a solid basis for protesting the call to the league.
Yes he meant Baltimore
and stop calling him Shirley

Thanks for ...
picking up on that! :o) I wanted to work it into the post but couldn’t quickly. Thanks for the assist!
I felt the pull
and I saw the tee before you placed that one down.

It is ...
apparent that the referees got caught up in the emotion and urgency of the Ravens attempting to get the FG team on the field and the kick away before an unsympathetic clock expired. Momentarily forgot their priorities and made what could could have been a huge mistake. Where was the replay official while all this was going on? And not to put too fine a point on this, but Al and Chris came up with this after the break and not while the play was occurring.
Does this rule work in the reverse order?
Like if you fumble it backwards and recover it, is it spotted at the place of the fumble?

That is a double standard
If the ball is fumbled the defender should just kick it down field.

Erroneous

Money or Game
The game stays the same just different players. Money makes up for much game. Game makes up for lack of money.

Money. He has it, women want it. Not to add you become quasi-famous for hooking up with an NFL player regardless of position.

I hate rules that apply only in sertain times and not in others.
If you fumble forward intentionally it should be an imcomplete pass. If you’re beond the line of scrimmage it should be an illeagal forward pass and penalized.
Then make one fumble rule and stick with it.
Problem solved.
I know it’s hard to determine intent, but it’s no harder than say determining a ball is uncatchabe and they do that all the time.
Really the best solution is not to allow a fumbled ball advanced by anyone except the fumbler solves all.
If you buy a foreign made product you give money to a person who will not be buying an American made produdt that you get paid to make. Think about it next time you're at the store.
SOmetimes they change the rules to help you individually
especially if your name is Tom Brady. Other rules they change because of teams they don’t like …..as in Raiders and Steelers.
