Green Bay Packers (9-4) @ Pittsburgh Steelers (6-7): BTSC Week 15 Open Thread (1st Half)

Pardon my absence this last week. Been in Wichita, Kansas at my girlfriend's family's house. Frankly, there's not been much on my mind other than disappointment with this Steelers team. But there's still three games left and the Steelers have actually gotten some of the help they'd need to sneak in to the playoffs if they were to win out. But thats certainly no guarantee considering how they've looked during their five game losing streak. Something tells me they'll play well today. We'll see. I sure hope so!

Go Steelers!

I really have no idea what to expect today.

Will Arians come out and fight for his job with a robust new offensive playbook? Will the Defense play like men possessed for a WHOLE 60 minutes? Will we give up a return on ST? Will Green Bay eat us alive on quick slant throws?

I want to hope, and I love this team. But I have been so beaten up when I get my expectations up this year, I’m hesitant to. I KNOW we can win. Hell we SHOULD have gone 15-1 or 14-2 this year with the talent on this team and the schedule we had.

I guess I can take three more weeks of abuse. Green Bay is in for a frickin’ hurting today. After everything these guys have gone through with the media, fans, the world, these past few weeks, I think they really want to shut everyone up. Their pride is beyond damaged. I have a feeling they will play like an injured Wolverine from start to finish and let the league know that if they dont need to look out for them in the playoffs this year, then at least know this year was a fluke and next year we’ll be back.

GO STEELERS

TV Coverage

Anybody here from N.E. PA? I’m trying to determine whether or not the snow storm and subsequent rescheduling on the Eagles game is going to mean that I have to find somebody with the NFL Ticket so that I can watch the game. We were supposed to be on FOX for the late game, and the Eagles were supposed to be on for the early one, but now they’re also playing late, and I’m thinking that they will be the game televised in my area. I hate the NFC. They should let ABC carry all of the inter-conference games.

The Jags lost, the Jets lost, the Phins lost, if Baltimore loses, we’ve got so many teams at 7-7! Even if Ravens lose, we can beat them next week but then they will probably beat the Raiders in week 17. Goddammit! GO BEARS!!!

How many Baltimore Ravens does it take to win a Super Bowl? Nobody knows and we may never find out

dink and dunk to open games, mixed in with runs at 50% rate.

bring in the mid-deep play as the defense gives space.

Go deep when the chance is there.

Drug policy

Players get caught with pot fairly often, but it never shows up on the drug tests. I don’t care if they weed in the off-season (as long as it is in a state where they can get a prescription), but how effective is drug-testing in the NFL?

A creative pass play

That was a creatively-designed play.

But arians’ issue isn’t creativity in the passing game. It’s that there is no creativity in the running game.

And that, combined with poor o-line talent, leads us to being one dimensional.

Mix in odd play-calling in key situations and playcalling that doesn’t fit the D (zone breakers in Cleveland) and I’m still down with Arians being fired.

We just saw one of the very, very rare plays that show why BA was able to get and hold a job in the NFL as long as he has.

One

of the announcers (not sure who) said he interviewed him, and asked if he mentioned something to Ben about all the sacks. He said that he once nearly ruined a QB at Mississippi state by trying to coach him. This is odd for a couple reasons. One, he was a WR and RB coach at Mississippi state. Two I had no idea he actually every tried to coach.

by SteelerBuddha on Dec 20, 2009 5:59 PM EST up reply actions

But minus the wisarce

comments, it sounds like BA straight up bragged about not trying to coach ben to take less sacks, a week after he took 8.

New plan

I like Tomlin, but I think we need to hire a Chin look a like. He makes no decisions, but every time somebody (Gay, Carter, etc.) makes a bone head play, the guy just runs out on to the field, get’s two inches away from their face and starts yelling and spraying buckets of spittle in their faces. My prediction? You’ll see less missed tackles.
