Just think how good this defence could have been if....

I was just sitting here thinking about this team and wondered if I had just one move that I wish the steelers had made what would it be. The 2007 draft the TImmons and Woodley  pick just think if the steelers really would have pick Revis as there #1 pick remember there were rumors of the steelers moving up to get this guy that is why the jets moved one spot ahead of us. Just Imagine this team with Revis and got Woodley  we still would have Foote, Imagine two shut down corners and the lb that we have now this defense would have been historical. Just using my imagination. That would have been my one wish oh well I can dream cant I lol

i agree

A friend and myself were just saying the other day how much we hate the Jets for trading up ahead of us to pick Revis so you are not alone.

all PITT fans couldn't agree more

as excited i was to get Ben, i was as dissapointed to see the J-E-T-S move up to steal him from us. William who?

by WARDANE33 on Dec 3, 2009 1:22 PM EST reply actions

o really?

Yeah, he would have been great for us…but, he would have rode the pine for a year or two!

by nycsteelerfan on Dec 3, 2009 1:39 PM EST reply actions

behind who

he missed half of training camp his rookie year and stepped right in to start

by WARDANE33 on Dec 3, 2009 1:47 PM EST up reply actions

o really?

how often do defensive players for the steelers EVER start from training camp?

by nycsteelerfan on Dec 4, 2009 1:24 PM EST up reply actions

right where Willie needs to be!!!!!

Riding the pine for another year or two, and if something don’t change he better save a spot next to him for IKE

Nah,

Willie just needs to go back to his nickel duties.

Ike? Really?

Sure, it could have been amazing for you guys

But drafting two LB like that is a steal. Sure your pass coverage may be average at best right now, but having LB like Timmons and Woodley there is not only good for stopping the run, but they can rush the QB as good as anyone in the league.

Remember, a secondary is only as good as the pass rush in front of it.

I've been thinking the exact same thing.

That was the first year I actively followed the draft, and I was devastated the Jets got him, especially since I’m a New Yorker and can’t stand (most of) their fans.

Stay away from “Polamalu Planet”

Who’s to say he can’t cover the water too?

This one's on Tomlin

For yakking about how much he liked Revis before the draft. I’m pretty sure if he had said nothing the Jets would not have moved up and we would have picked him up… And about him riding the pine, I don’t think so. He would have taken Deshea’s job by midseason IMO… If you reshuffle the 2007 draft after that here’s a look at what could have gone down :

1-Revis
2-Woodley
3-Stewart Bradley (there’s you ILB)
4a-Sepulveda
4b-Steve Breaston (return woes gone and no.3 WR secured)
5a-Willie Gay
5b-Brent Celek (there’s your TE, Arians!)
7-Chinedum Ndukwe (safety depth)

OK, I’m a dreamer, so sue me!

Well Colbert said specifically that even if the Jets did trade up

He’d be confident in whoever was next on their list and it just so happened to be Timmons.

They always say that

And notice how they always endorse their pick… Anyway, Timmons is fine, but I’m jonesing for a guy with hands in that defensive backfield!

I think you guys should go after CB Joe Haden in the draft this year

I watched this kid play in highschool, and his team (Friendly) demolished my highschool in the State Semi-finals in 2007. He was playing QB, Safety, CB, LB. Incredible athlete.

He'll never drop to us

since we’ll be drafting in the 32nd slot again.

Wishful thinking there man.

One game at a time skippy.

I think we might make a case to get a good spot for Dixon. Maybe the Browns, Was, or KC?

We will unleash Hell in December.

many times

i’ve said i’d have pullrd a mike ditka in o6 draft and traded all our natural picks(kept the 3 compensatory) to the expansion texans to take mario williams the perfect hybrid for our blitzing 3/4. .

by steelswine on Dec 4, 2009 10:56 PM EST reply actions

Too expensive

To me theres plenty of solid talent below #1 overall. We’d have had to sell off probably a child in the process too.

In retrospect, every team misses a pick or two or three. Its a shame, but you get what you get, and its up to the coaching staff to utilize their abilities.

by Mechem on Dec 5, 2009 9:46 AM EST up reply actions

a future topic,mechem

doesn’t have to be the top pick overall,,,,,in this case it was,,,,,,,but your key word is solid,,,,,solid’s is sometimes enough,,,,usually not if you can get great,,,,,,and i was convinced that mario was THE perfect man for OUR defense. lots of reasons but.

BUT,,,,the point is the draft approach,,,,,,the league’s structure assures solid picks, and the gms. line up for what usually turns out to be a mundane bell curve lottery result.

as often as not,,,,,, i maintain ,,,,it would be better to trade up at dramatic draft choice cost, for a can’t miss , future h.o.f. player, rather than use the next 6 picks to produce maybe 1 contributor,,,,, and 4 career back-ups, usually overpaid and uncuttable cause the gm doesn’t want to show wasted picks.

i pray that ziggy wood is the next joe green,,,,,there’ a chance even in the bell curve but…….

i know there are exceptions to the rule , and everyone loves them,, but generally the bell shaped draft produces bell shaped results,,,,,,,and i think that could be broken.

on the other end,,,,,what if , like we do this yr. need special teams players,,,,,

maybe we should have traded all our higher picks for multiple last rds picks and have scouted colleges for specifically spec team standouts that we could easily get with 6th and 7th rd picks,,,,do you think we could find a couple good specteamers out of a bunch of 20 or so picked for showing talent at specteams??

law of averages says we’d do better than we do with , a bunch that hasn’t played much special teams in college and doesn’t want to play them now.

and as far as solid depth,,,,,every year the last cut waiver wires are full of players that , are" wonder cuts" “’ reluctant cuts”, “salary cap” or cuts that the team hopes clear waivers so they can be resigned to practise squads ,,,,and they can all be signed at minimum up to the trade deadline.
