EEK

Yeah….the men of steel are in the lead…but they certainly aren’t taking it to the raiders too well. 3 times in the redzone gets them 3 points.

The D is looking better…..I guess….but if the raider QB could be more accurate, they would have 14 more points……YIKES

I just dont know what to expect anymore…

mix it up

if they want to mix up parker and MH, then mix them up during the same drive….not separate drives. it just takes away the flow of the RB, and certainly MH is the better back and needs to be in there. Let Willie give him a blow after 3-4 touches in a row.

Troy and all the injuries

Let’s face it…..steelers had Nate and MacFadden leave. Troy and Smith hurt on D. Parker is not what he was. Wallace is a rookie. BB has had his bell rung.

Carter is no Troy, and we all know Ike cant get an INT to save his life.

All that being said…..this team breaks down because it’s best players on D are not in there to help. BA is predictable and caves into BB’s needs, when really someone should be forcing BB to take what the O gives him. Maybe he doesn’t force that throw in the endzone for INT today. Maybe if they ran more plays for Heath things could be better on O.

Anyway…..my stream ran out with 1:20 remaning……..kinda like the steelers season….

Ohhhhhsure, they could run the table…….yeah. right.

Too many points left on the field by the O. Redzone woes were the name of the game in the 1st half.

The D is just ridiculous. I cannot remember the last time I felt so humiliated watching a game. Bruce Gradkowski marches down the field with under 2 minutes left? If this defense can’t stop that then….well, I don’t know.

People have to quit defending the D on this though. Not everything is Arians fault. The Raiders averaged 10 points a game coming in. They put up 27.

Overrated

This defense if way overrated! It’s coverage is awfull, even with the pressure that the front provides. DBs are playing awfull. I’m getting tired of Ryan Clark’s mistakes. That long TD with Ike on man to man was on him, he jumped the dig route underneath and never helped out on the deepest route. Awful!

by Steelfrog on Dec 6, 2009 4:18 PM EST reply actions

Slow down...

Our DB’s are way overrated! I’ll definitely give you that. They are garbage. Now, as for the rest of the defense, it’s pretty dang good. We have some of the best def. linemen and LBs in the league. But if your secondary isn’t going to help them out, it doesn’t really mean a whole lot. We may have the worst secondary in the NFL! Terrible!

Haha. Yea it may be but I like seeing how people deal with adversity. Tomlin is finally getting a large dose of it. something different every game – the leader is supposed to fix that

by Sick Puppy on Dec 6, 2009 4:28 PM EST up reply actions

Well Tomlin played his part with the 53 yarder miss/gamble

and the 4th down fail/gamble down near their end zone, first possession of the game. Gotta say, I think the Refs did a pretty poor job on the spot.

He’s definitely not above blame.

no – 3 years is plenty long

by Sick Puppy on Dec 6, 2009 4:29 PM EST up reply actions

You just proved how games are decided by inches and one or two plays.

Last year this team won close games and made a lot of comeback victories. This year’s team is the otehr way around – they can’t close teams out. All this shows is how hard it is to win in the NFL

by Jett on Dec 6, 2009 4:29 PM EST up reply actions

not really 8-14 overall with 5 wins last year.
3-11 the other 2 years & these were/are good teams

Yes – he was the head coach on a Super Bowl winning team (although, I didn’t once say that the team won the Super Bowl because of Tomlin’s coaching)

This may be good

I never believed in Tomlin from day 1. We did win the super bowl but I think that was a combination of LeBeau, (Defense), and luck, (No Big Injuries). Now that Tomln has won a Super Bowl he has become proud of himself and his decisions. This year you throw in some injuries, BA’s BS, and Tomlin and you now have a team that would be out of the top 25 rankings if this were college. Speaking of college, I thought for a second I was watching the secondary of Rice University. Ladies & Gents face it, the 4th quarter is where you separate the men from the boys and right now we are preemies. The coaches start the game with a plan and evolve into the game making changes and adjustments as to have the advantage at the end. We do NOT have a head coach that is good at this period! I said two weeks ago when I joined this blog that besides the coaching the secondary was very bad and we needed immediate help. If TP means all that th the D then like teams do with a downed QB we should have went out and found a replacement ASAP. Just 4 days until we play the mighty Browns. Don’t laugh. A loss may be a good thing. It may change managements mind about the coaching decisions they have made for the long term.

by Jeffrey19608 on Dec 6, 2009 4:39 PM EST reply actions

Tomlin could very well be responsible, but hes gonna be around for a while.

I think he’s been outcoached on multiple occasions this season as well so hopefully he is learning from that, but we all know the Rooneys do not make coaching changes that often

somewhat agree . . .

i do like tomlin . . . but his blind allegiance to arians is dumbfounding . . . the steelers losses this year are due to an offense that has no identity/consistency . . . sucky special teams . . . and an inability of our defensive backs (minus troy) to catch easy interceptions . . .

OLine stil cannot run block that well in my opinion. I know the Raiders have some players on their DLine, but if you take away Mendy’s 60 yard run he had 19 carries for 43 yards. Not good. I still think an o-lineman needs to be drafted on day 1

by Jett on Dec 6, 2009 4:40 PM EST reply actions

did ryan mundy just singlehandedly ruin our playoff chances???

3 key plays:

Mundy taking Gay out
Mundy unnecesary roughness penalty
Mundy blowing coverage on the TD catch

It's not that hard to figure out.....is it?

There is enough O to get this team to the playoffs…..errr…there HAS been enough….

BUT,

The D is not the same!!! Why? No Troy, no BMac, no Aaron Smith. That is why the secondary gets torched, and why the run stuffing is not the same either.

Add all that up and it equals many loses by less 5 points!

I can't decide...

Was Mundy’s goring of William Gay a GOOD or a BAD thing? Couple that with a 15 yard penalty, I’d say Mundy was the Least Valuable Player in the game. But, Gay will almost certainly not play next week. That could be a good thing, considering how awful he played today.

I agree

Maybe his attitude that the “standard of expectation doesn’t change” is part of the problem. Like you said, the reality is the available players do change what you can do. If the standard really didn’t change, Dixon would have run the same playbook as Ben.

by onthebus36 on Dec 6, 2009 5:13 PM EST up reply actions

I think his message is fine....

..as long as it’s there to give his player confidence…but as fans….we should know better and not always think that because he says it, that that is true. It’s certainly not the coaches fault that Carter was lagging behind by 3 yards on that TD play.

by Ragnar808 on Dec 6, 2009 5:16 PM EST up reply actions

Seems that LaMarr Woodley is the only one making an impact on Defense

And of course, Deebo is Deebo.

Sure, Woodley had a couple mis-tackles here and there but he came to play again. That’s now 6 sacks in the last 4 games. For those of you wanting production there it is. Bad news is not much else is happening on d right now. The fact that Gradkowski ate us alive (granted most of it came in the 4th) is a disgrace. The secondary has been more than exposed, and just based on the 4th quarter alone Ryan Mundy should be gone tomorrow. Took out his own teammate and committed a costly costly penalty.

DB’s not sure what to say. Polamalu is both their saving grace and their curse. When he’s in, they all play well. When’s he out, no denying it, they’re awful.

FYI: Just noticed....Did we really run the ball as much as we passed?

Roethlisberger threw 24 times and ran 3 times. 2 of those plays I was pretty sure were designed pass plays, while one was a broken play. So that’s 26 pass plays and two that turned into QB bailouts. Meanwhile between Mendy, MeMo, and FWP they ran it 24 times. So 24 passes, 24 rushes, 2 Ben scrambles that started out as passes. Technically we did run the same amount of plays (26-26), including Ben scrambling…
