Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

Don't worry guys! We're still unleashing hell!

And I don't mean the Steelers organization. I mean the Steelers fans are starting raise hell due to such inconsistent effort on all phases of the ball. We allowed the league's second worst offense get 3 td's through the air, including a game winner over Mundy.

Gradkowski and his young receivers were also raising hell on our secondary today. I just don't know what to say. I don't even remember a single play where I said, "hey maybe our secondary isn't all that bad without troy" and then after there was a gleam of some kind of hope to stop the raiders defensively, we give it away after a few literal slips by William, a dropped gamewinner by our rookie, Joe,  and terrible positions on balls. The play action killed us today even though they weren't able to run the ball ridiculously well.

I will give the Raiders credit for unleashing hell on us and our optimism. I'll continue to cheer for the Steelers for the remainder of this season in hopes of making the last seed in the AFC playoffs, but I won't get my hopes too high if we can't get troy back.

I don't even want to imagine how many points a good team can rack up against our secondary if troy doesn't get to 100% and we somehow make the playoffs...

Any opinions from you guys?

I agree

If ANY team in the NFL wants to beat us just start airing it out. If the Browns do it to us Thursday night they will win too!

Arians should have stopped playing like a conservative PUSSY most of the game with a 4 point lead. It’s hard to watch anymore.

I expect a loss now and will be happy with a win.

Every day brings future to past, every breath leaves me one less to my last. DT

choice of words aside (wink), i agree that arians’ play-calling leaves much to be desired… everyone keeps blaming our losses on the defense, but the offense also has to accept equal share of the responsibility. we settle too often on offense, and airing it out in the red zone when we have an intact rushing attack is … well, it’s bruce arians, whatever it is.

it’s been interesting to see how much improvement there has been in the offensive line. without being directly involved in the organization, who’s to say who’s responsible for that. but i can see arguments for keeping BA, arguments for getting rid of him, and … arguments for just relieving his play-calling duties (unlikely :P). probably will also depend on what type of coaching personnel are available in the off-season. kubiak for OC?

william gay has the athleticism and the drive, but he needs the maturity. he’s getting psyched out at the line of scrimmage. teams are burning him left and right. that having been said, i vote that we keep him and develop him, as a long-term investment; i think that with the appropriate development, he can be great. remember, it wasn’t that long ago that people were calling for ike taylor’s head (some still are).

ryan clark’s play has suffered, but i suspect troy’s absence is affecting his play as well. you can’t play FS the same way with troy as you would with any other SS in the league. troy is not our entire team, not even our entire defense - but he -is an all-universe safety, with a very unique style of play, and removing him does rock the boat significantly at more positions than just his own.

It's the D

Yes, yes, I know — we’re not putting points on the board and BA calls bad plays. But in EVERY one of the losses the Defense was handed a lead late in the game and asked to keep it. They have failed repeatedly, often dramatically and catastrophically. The Steelers have gone from being a feared Defense to a Defense that folds when the game is on the line. Time and time again. Everyone on this blog is calling out Arians. I think it’s way past time to call out LeBeau. I take nothing away from what he has accomplished in the past. But this year, for whatever reason, his guys are just not stepping up when it counts most.

i know troy is out...but

didnt we win a superbowl with jack ham? We should not be that dependant on 1 guy..YES, its troy, but this meltdown is serious! I said after the second cincy loss, we were in deep do-do…and a collapse was possible!

I think we can all agree

That our defense has been pretty much the reason why we haven’t been able to have a great season so far (barring turnovers, poor special teams play, etc.)

BUT. Troy really is an out of this world safety. I remember just watching the Vikings and Broncos game. He may have not created a turnover vs. the vikings, but i think his prescence affects the whole game and we were able to get two defensive td’s that game. In the broncos game, he made two straight spectacular plays and if it wasn’t for a defensive td by the broncos, we would’ve held them to 3 points. I don’t wanna say this but i think troy, at least this year, is our whole defense. this is just like the 2007 season when he and aaron smith went out and our defense fell apart.

Yes, but

isn’t it sad that our legendary defense hinges on the presence of one guy?

Many Defenses did

If you Take LT out of the Giants D in mid to late 80s are they still as dominant no not as much, if you remove Joe Greene from the D Line are the rest of those guys able to create as much havac as they did who knows we just have to deal with what we have right now and adjust

correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I know

lebeau has essentially molded this defense around troy. without the most important part, it goes nowhere. troy is what gets the rest of the defense moving from what i can see. his making qbs hesitate for a second more gets more sacks. more sacks helps the coverage. isn’t it sad that a car is useless without the keys?

You will unleash as much hell as a new born kitten. Your team is not scary anymore.

Hell at least Oak was good enough to beat us regulation and we had Ben back.

You guys had to rely on our third string, never played in the regular season, qb making a mistake to beat us in OT. That speaks volumes about the state of the Ravens.

We will unleash Hell in December.

You guys lost to Oakland

With their 2nd string QB and Ben in there, at home. THAT speaks volumes about the state of the Steelers.

You have to hate losing more than you love winning.

No one around here is doubting the state we are in.

But dont go thumping your chest like BAL has a set of balls on em this year either.

We will unleash Hell in December.

I’ve said all along on the Beatdown that you beat the Steelers with the deep ball. Run a little and pass your ass off. Worth the risk..but the Ravens don’t listen.

If I were you Mendy runs MORE.

by raven on Dec 7, 2009 1:13 AM EST reply actions

Holy shit a Ravens fan even know what we should be doing with our offense and I bet you don’t watch everyone of the Steelers games. Sad that that is the case and our OC who calls the game can’t see it.

We'll share that with bruce

That's it

Rush-Hard can’t be called Mendy because that’s what Ravens fans call him.

I'll call him Mundy.

Is that better?
