Have The 2009 Steelers Reinvented "The Kardiac Kids"?

I know some of you are not old enough to remember, but,  the1980 Brownies had a team that had several games decided in the last minute of play. They went 11-5 that year and lost in the playoffs to Oakland (imagine that) by a score of 14-12. Live by the sword...Die by the sword.

Our 2009 Steelers have lost 6 games by a total of 21 points and all of them in the last 2:00 of the 4th Qtr. I think the reliance on the passing game is responsible. Those Kardiac Kids were very pass happy too, but, the problem is, the margin for error is much smaller with the passing game. On Sunday, remember that 2 play drive for a TD that Ben engineered to Tone and Hines? A thing of beauty, the downside was no time used on the game clock. What if it had been a 4 play drive with 2 runs..... those 41 secs Oakland had at the end would not have been there.

I went back and looked at the 05 Steelers , I think we all agree we were a running team with the Bus and FWP. In the playoffs we won 31-17, 21-18, 34-17,21-10 over Bungles, Colts, Broncos, Seahawks. Only the Colts game was Cardiac and boy was it!

Am I suggesting that we give up on the passing game? No, but we need to incorporate some things that the Steelers used to do well, running to take the air out of the ball as Coach Cowher would say. Staying on the topic of running, this RIDICULOUS system of running Mendy for a series and then putting FWP in is crazy. Did you ever see the Bulls park Jordan on the bench for a quarter after he had scored 20 points? Athletes get cold and lose their rhythm sitting around in 25 degree weather. If  Mendy is gassed, spell him with FWP or Memo for a couple of plays and then put him back in. Of course, if the play calling is bad it doesn't matter, I rewatched the KC game, the last three times Mendy touched the ball he ran for 7,7,8 yards. On 2nd and 3, our $100 million QB did a head first dive.....Concussion. On 3rd and 2, we give Memo the ball 8 yards behind the LOS on a sweep while Mendy watched from the sideline......Give me a break!

All is not lost, but, this team needs to remember they are the Pittsburgh Steelers, some of our traditions led to 29 winning seasons since the 1970 Merger we have to get back to them as we develop our high flying passing game.

Now come on, Lets Go Steelers!

I agree 100% on the ridiculousness of giving FWP every 3rd series. I also think it’s absurd that MeMo automatically gets every 3rd down regardless of down or distance. Mendy has all of MeMo’s skills (blocking, catching, chipping) and has the motor to make a big play off of a dump off.

Hmmm

I can’t say I disagree but I can’t say I totally agree either. I agree completely about the stupidity of taking out Mendy, I just don’t get it. As far as running like the 05 team, as much as this line has progressed they are no where near the quality of that line. They have made some big strides but they can’t take over any game like the great lines of old did. As good as Mendy is, and he will be even better, the passing game is where we have the most talent right now. That is, of course, if Ben is truly on, which I haven’t seen in a few games. He somehow seems to pile up yards but really hasn’t played very well since the second half of the Denver game. Maybe next year we will have a different OC who can utilize the vast amount of talent on offense. BA certainly can not.

I honestly cant believe the fashon in wich weve lost games this year.
.
If we DO get a 10-6 WC with the exception of MAYBE Indy, aint a whole lotta teams that would wanna face us

Ron Paul was Right.

Agreed

these are all games in which we won last season. it’s not like we’re getting blown out, we’re just choking at the end of games. If we can somehow get it together, there’s not gonna be too many teams that will want to see us come to town in the playoffs.

The O-line can take over games.

They haven’t been given much of a chance to do so this year. There seems to be such an emphasis on making Ben the focal point, that we have at times forgotten our running game this year. The O-line has not been primarily responsible for the sack issues, Ben has. Mendenhall is averaging 5 ypc, better than any Steeler running back in how long? The Steelers have an inordinate amount of redzone turnover as well. The O-lines fault? I don’t think so , usually Ben.

13 years and no playoff wins for the Dallas Cowboys... SWEET!

Problem is

When you’re ahead you run out the clock.
When you’re behind you score anyway you can.
The D needed one stop in the 4th Sunday so the O could have the ball and the lead at the same time. Then running out the clock would have come into play.
Of course then someone would have to call a running play that had a chance at working instead of everybody go long.

If you buy a foreign made product you give money to a person who will not be buying an American made produdt that you get paid to make. Think about it next time you're at the store.
