The Steelers Will Make the Wildcard and Win the Superbowl [Lineup Changes]
The Steelers Will Make the Wildcard and Win the Superbowl
Joe Burnett will be starting this Thursday at CB for the injured William Gay
Keenan Lewis will be starting in the Nickel ahead of Deshea Townsend
Deshea Townsend will be playing in the Dime, behind Keenan Lewis
Limas Sweed will get playing time behind Mike Wallace for the injured Hines Ward
I am hoping that Keyaron Fox will become the starter ahead of Lawrence Timmons
Ziggy Hood will be getting more playing
Most important, is the secondary. We will need Joe Burnett and Keenan Lewis and everyone else back there to start playing much better to be able to beat New Orleans in the Super Bowl
Stephan Logan will return two touchdowns in the Super Bowl
I am excited right now that Joe Burnett and Keenan Lewis will start to get more playing time

Maybe next year
Someone would need to take over calling the defensive signals, and I don’t know how easy that is. Not very, I’m guessing. Potsie pretty much plays every down. I’m not sure who his designated backup is (who would get the helmet w/ the radio).
Farrior’s done a lot of great things for us over the years, but I do think that he needs to be relegated to a backup roll going forward.

is Farrior
still leading the team in tackles? I wasnt for sure, but thought it would be a reach to replace your leading tackler even if he isnt making superstar plays. Farrior is still a consistent, reliable player.

Not as consistent or reliable as he’s been in the past though, particularly in the 4th quarter. Age is catching up to him, much like it has other players on defense. If only we could transport his brain into Timmons body…

JF is.....
slowing down right before our eyes. He is missing tackles on a weekly basis now. He is taking wrong angles on tackles now based on his past speed and his current closing speed. He is unable to cover RB’s on a consistent basis.
I love the guy but Fox/Timmons look like the better combo now. Farrior is a huge cap hit next year. Given that fact, I hope the Front Office and JF can renegotiate a contract based on his declining skills……………can’t believe I just said this…….
You are assuming that Fox won't make the plays Farrior is
Which could or could not be true, but we do not know either way.

I agree with everything except the Steelers in the Super Bowl
Timmons has not played well except as a pass rusher. The Steelers blitz an ILB maybe every third play. So, even if Timmons blitzes more than Farrior, that means Timmons will be doing what he is best at every fifth play he is on the field. It makes sense to play Fox because he is better against the run and in pass protection (Timmons: 52 tackles 4 pass defensed 0 INTs, Fox: 46 tackles 1 INT for TD 1 pass defensed in 1/3 the playing time).
I don’t know if Burnett will be better than Gay but you have to give him a shot. He has looked good in limited action so far.
I just haven’t seen enough from Hood to say he warrants more playing time. I don’t think Kirschke has played poorly. But who knows, maybe it provides a spark or the extra rest helps Kirschke play even better.
Steelers miss the playoffs either way because they lose one more game down the stretch.

Don't agree
If Fox starts it is for farrior not Timmons. LT is finally healthy and playing well. He does mis his lanes sometimes but keep in mind he was an outsiode LB in college and used mostly last yr as a situational LB. Still learning. Iv’e been saying this all yr…..farrior is a disaster this yr. that extension was premature…..he has been beaten by FB’s all yr long… forget Ray Rice……he’s been beaten by slow thick FB’s. If you go watch the games and key on him you will see how bad it is. Kills me cuz I have always loved that guy.
After Sunday's debacle, how can you pick this team to go to the SB and win?
The only way that happens is if the entire rest of the NFL collapses during the next four weeks. Last week, I thought they had a legitimate shot at winning their last 5 games. This week, I wonder whether they can beat anybody.
Nobody had them in 05 when they were 7-5, and needed 4 straight wins to make the playoffs.
13 years and no playoff wins for the Dallas Cowboys... SWEET!
we need 8 to win the SB

I'm not being negative but.....
The Steelers haven’t even won a total of 8 games yet, let alone 8 straight. Half way there in staright losses though.

Our warrior Troy will come down from the heavens and lead us to the promise land
Just have to beat Cleveland first
THEY WILL MAKE THE PLAYOFFS
The special teams coverage units have improved (two good games in a row). Sunday, Stefan Logan finally showed the kick return excitement we all got a look at in the preseason.
Big Ben took control of the offense in the second half against Oakland. The running game is more dangerous than it’s been in two years.
So, the question is, do you believe that the defense, the strength of this team for over three decades, headed by a hall of fame quality coach, will step it up the next four games? Because if they do, Pittsburgh gets a wild card.
This has been a disappointing season full of missed opportunities. But with the special teams and the offense now clicking, it’s a matter of defense. And you know what, looking at Denver, Jacksonville, Miami, Baltimore and the Jets, I’m putting my money on the defense. It starts Thursday night.
By the way
And I’m usually a ‘glass half-empty’ kind of guy. I just think in a down AFC year, with the Steelers still (barely) in contention, there’s a chance when the weak link is the defense. Up until this year, that’s been the strongest link.
how about fox instead of farrior
not only has he screwed up more than once to cost us a game this year, he hasnt been making big plays.
now with all these missed assignments in the secondary i’m wondering if it’s due to him. gotta be either lebeau (not gotta the call in quick enough), farrior (not telling everyone quick enough), or the secondary not paying attention. probably is the secondary tho & i’m just being biased
When did a brand new pair of
corners ever start a win streak? Especially going into the playoffs. This is just a drastic, all out of other options, move. You either made magic or are getting these guys some playing time. I’m going with the latter

Two new rookies will not be starting at CB
William Gay is out for this game with a concussion injury. He’ll be back for the next game.
The other starter at CB is Ike Taylor. He is still the starter.
Deshea Townsend has been demoted to the Dime Defense for this game.
Joe Burnett will be the starter and Keenan Lewis will be the Nickel defensive back.
Deshea Townsend will be playing in the Dime
When William Gay comes back next week, I imagine that Joe Burnett will be the nickel DB and Keenan Lewis will be playing in the Dime
Deshea Townsend will be sitting
S Ryan Mundy was in the game. I’m not sure if he was getting playing time in the Dime Defense only, or what. I would imagine that rookie CB’s Burnett and Lewis are better than a backup Safety, at pass defense.
S Ryan Mundy should be better than the CBs at run support.
Right now, we need pass defense in the nickel and dime packages.
S Ryan Mundy was on the field in the Dime Defense only, or what?
Right now we need better pass defense in the nickel and dime packages.
CB’s Joe Burnett and Keenan Lewis should be better than a backup Safety at pass defense
S Ryan Mundy should be better at run support, than Burnett and Lewis
Right now, Burnett is starting Thursday and Lewis will be the nickel DB and Deshea the dime DB
When William Gay comes back, I imagine that Burnett will be the Nickel DB and Lewis the Dime DB and that Deshea Townsend and backup S Ryan Mundy will both be sitting
That sounds to me like a better plan for Pass Defense in the Nickel and Dime packages!
Farrior is playing very poorly
But he is the signal caller. For the same reason the Steelers won’t fire any coaches until they are at least out of the playoffs mathematically, they will not replace Farrior. There is nothing more disruptive then removing the guy who calls the plays. Replacing defensive signal caller, QB, or coordinator in-season is something that is so disruptive you simply don’t do it unless you have to or you are eliminated.

Ha! They should start Sweed at safety!
Cuz we all know he can knock a ball to the ground!
Sweed probably catches better than Ike and Gay
Not that that is saying much…
