These defensive linup changes will equal a better pass defense
Two new rookies will not be starting at CB
William Gay is out for this game with a concussion injury. He’ll be back for the next game.
The other starter at CB is Ike Taylor. He is still the starter.
Deshea Townsend has been demoted to the Dime Defense for this game.
Joe Burnett will be the starter and Keenan Lewis will be the Nickel defensive back.
Deshea Townsend will be playing in the Dime
When William Gay comes back next week, I imagine that Joe Burnett will be the nickel DB and Keenan Lewis will be playing in the Dime
Deshea Townsend will be sitting
S Ryan Mundy was in the game. I’m not sure if he was getting playing time in the Dime Defense only, or what. I would imagine that rookie CB’s Burnett and Lewis are better than a backup Safety, at pass defense.
S Ryan Mundy should be better than the CBs at run support.
Right now, we need pass defense in the nickel and dime packages.

S Ryan Mundy should be better at run support, than Burnett and Lewis
Right now, Burnett is starting Thursday and Lewis will be the nickel DB and Deshea the dime DB
When William Gay comes back, I imagine that Burnett will be the Nickel DB and Lewis the Dime DB and that Deshea Townsend and backup S Ryan Mundy will both be sitting
That sounds to me like a better plan for Pass Defense in the Nickel and Dime packages!
