Driveby Report Super Bowl Champs Edition
As much as I hate to put my heart through this, that was an awesome game. This was a team win. I can now do my report since I am done texting and emailing all the Cardinal band wagon riders , A.K.A. Browns and Bengals fans, that have told me for the last 2 weeks that the Cards will smash the Steelers. This was a typical game for us on the season, except for the defensive let down. All the talk this week about our dee and their offense. I said for the last two weeks that the key to this game is our offense against their dee. Our dee against their offense was a wash in my opinion. We held them to 7 for 3 quarters and scored a touchdown. They got 14 late. We won our offense against their dee match up. We were able to eat up a lot of clock
1. Harrison: How ironic is it that the very interview that gave us the responses that drew an article about how Deebo was an ass, actually some significance. Deebo faked a rush and dropped into coverage. One Hundred yards later he's in the endzone with 6 and the clock at zeroes for halftime. How about that run? He's got wheels. Deebo is scary, that dude is mean and can probably outrun you if you ticked him off. And they wanted to debate whether Ed Reed should have been Defensive player of the year? I know hindsight. By the way, who was surprised they actually called the holding? It's about time.
2. The Hines affect: You may look at the stats and think Hines didn't do much, but don't let that fool you. That 38 yard completion on the first drive did a lot. It said to the Cardinals that they have to be aware where Hines is. It set the tempo. It was a factor for Holmes being open in crucial situations. If you notice Hines was double teamed in crucial situations. That left Holmes either in single coverage or single coverage with weak help. His blocking was instrumental as well. Just another crucial cog in the Offensive machine. They were able to control the clock pretty much all game, eating up a huge portion of the first quarter. Hines' presence was definitely a major contributor to that.
3. Ike: Say what you want, Ike did a good job last night. Sure he missed an interception, let Fitz catch a TD pass and missed a few much needed tackles, but his coverage was pretty good overall. Larry has done much better and has proven that he is virtually an "unstoppable force." Ike did well. I really think that Fitzgerald TD was an incompletion though. Ike did poke the ball loose and when Fitz went down the ball hit the ground. As he rolls over you can see that the ball in laying on his stomach but it appears he didn't have control until he rolls completely over on his back. Anyhow, say what you want Ike did well.
4. Ben: Can we put Ben in the category of Brady now? What has Brady done that Ben hasn't? Ben is 51-20 in the regular season (most for any quarterback in their first 5 years), and 8-2 (second to Brady by 1 win) in the post season. He has 2 Super Bowl rings. He just drove his team 78 yards in 2 minutes and 2 seconds to bring his team back from a 64 yard dagger to the heart from Warner to Fitzgerald. He didn't leave it up to his kicker to win the game. He sealed the deal. By the way I think he should have at least got a share of the Super Bowl MVP.
5. O-line: Can we quit putting them down for now. There are a lot of teams that have better but they were watching this game. This game was won by a TEAM. They are a crucial part of it. They did their job.
6. Timmons: His presence was definitely felt. He made Warner change some throws and rush some throws. He made some plays in the flats that were phenomenal. One that comes to mind was that pass in the flat to Edgerrin James that looked like it would be at least 10 yards. Timmons closed on him so fast he only got 2 yards. He will fill in nicely for Foote. Not that I don't like Foote. Speaking of Foote, I think he should have intercepted the Patrick TD pass in the first half. He just didn't react quick enough.
7. Titans: I have to go back to December 21 game in Tennessee. I am now happy for the Titans. They won their Super Bowl that day. They stomped on our towels and acted like they did something. Congratulations Titans on the Number 1 seed and first round "BYE".
8. Congrats to the Cardinals. You have made some history for yourself. You have gained some respect and you have very good coaches. You have a young team with a young promising quarterback waiting to take the reigns. He is being taught by a great quarterback and a great human being. You have all the makings of a successful organization. I think you'll be fine.
9. As I said in my AFC Champions driveby...I have a 50 dollar gift certificate for "Dick's" sporting goods. I thought it was funny because my step mother gave it to me knowing that I get my coaching supplies from a local supplier and I don't like Dick's high prices. Well as the playoffs began I got the idea that I would wait and but Championship gear with it. Well I started to buy an AFC Championship hat, but thought I'd wait. Then we won the AFC so I said I'll buy that hat and wear it to the Super Bowl party. I decided to wait. Now I KNOW what to buy. Can you guess?
10. This is yours, put something in here. Maybe something about Heath Miller

One thing I failed to mention
Woodley was awesome. He now has 2 sacks in 4 straight postseason games!

Woodley
He’s got 17.5 for the whole season, while Harrison has 17 even. The wookie caught up!

#10
I had to add some random thoughts:
Mewelde Moore: What a marriage. A hard worker who finally got his payoff and his hard work is much appreciated.
Leftwich: Great talent who received his ring without having lead the team. I’m sure he wants to get one while he’s at the helm.
Culpepper: Sucks to be him. Ego gets you nowhere.
Joey Porter: He must be ticked right now.
Alan Faneca: See above. I guess Zierlein gets the last laugh.
Ben: Do you think Elway being at the Super Bowl may have inspired him? He looked like him.

Harrison's interview...
He was pissed cause he was telling the truth and that idiot wasn’t taking him seriously.
It’s all so clear now.

#10 I knew we were destined to win when Mitch drew the roughing the holder call. I never even heard of that #$%
When we went down with 2:37 left, I said to those around me, “Don’t worry. We got ’em right where we want ’em, now!”
I know BB was saying the same thing in the huddle.
According to the one lady, I have “mustard seed” faith.

The Hines Effect
While I don’t think he had a great game, I think there was something similar going on with Polamalu. He didn’t touch the ball or make great tackles, but I’m pretty sure Troy’s figure floating around near Fitzgerald explains why Warner didn’t throw to their #1 for the first 3 quarters of the game.
Game could have been very different had Troy been able to hold onto the ball when he jumped that route near the end.

True
I was thinking that myself.
