Possible Answer to the O-Line Issues?
Pulled from ESPN's Insider. Very interesting.
Will Saturday don the hypocycloid helmet on Sundays?
Jeff Saturday | Colts | Interested: Steelers?Jeff Saturday will become a free agent this Friday, and the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that he wants to join the Pittsburgh Steelers.
"I talked to Jeff after the Super Bowl, and he said 'if you can get me there, that would be beautiful,' " Saturday's agent Ralph Cindrich told the Tribune-Review. "This is a Rooney-type of guy if ever there was one."
One issue is that the Steelers already have a center, Justin Hartwig, who is entering the final season of his contract and started every contest for the Steelers this past season. Not to worry, says Cindrich, as Saturday is willing to slide over to guard, a position where the Steelers could be short given the uncertain future of Chris Kemoeatu.
Saturday also compares favorably in the leadership aspects of the game, and Cindrich compares him to fellow client James Farrior, who is defensive captain in Pittsburgh. "I believe that James Farrior is one of the best leaders in the NFL. Jeff Saturday is equal to Farrior. He really controls the whole offensive line, makes every call. It's a Farrior-type situation, where age scares teams. Farrior's first four to five years, he didn't get beat up. Jeff is the same way."
The veteran center has started all 16 games in seven out of nine seasons in with the Indianapolis Colts, missing two games in 2008 because of a knee injury and another two due to a calf injury.
If this is true, the FO has to pull the trigger on this one. We don't normally do this sort of thing in free agency, but for some players we have to make exceptions.
This guy was the leader of one of the best offensive lines in football for the past few years, if he's willing to play guard aswell that's just a bonus.

Okay...
So maybe it’s not the “answer” but this would be a great start.

I don't see how we can
I’d love to have him. But I can’t imagine us coming up with that kind of money… unless everyone else thinks he’s washed up and won’t pay him or something… But I can’t imagine us finding the cap room for him and everyone else we’re trying to fit in…

wow
I’m a little shocked that he’d want to take a discount to play for us but not the Colts, because we’re sure as hell not going to give him a huge contract at 33. The Colts are still interested in resigning him. According to that article, he’s thinking of leaving the Colts for more money, and he’s not thinking straight if he expects Pittsburgh to be “more money”. I’d love to have a guard who can actually do zone blocking though. Pass blocking’s nice too.
In other news, it looks like Jason Brown is going to hit the market. He really could be the answer – he’s only 25 and many thought he should have been a pro-bowler for the past 2 years. The downside is he’s going to want a boatload of money – he’s leaving Baltimore because he wants to get paid as a guard and they want to pay him like a center – and he’s going to get it. I thought maybe he would be an under the radar guy who would be worth a sizable deal, but if you look around SBN, everyone is talking about him as a “under the radar” guy, which basically means he’s on everyone’s radar and will get a mega-contract somewhere. Still, if any interior OL is worth a mega-contract, it’s a 25 year old pro-bowl caliber mauling center with no injury history.

That's what I'm sayin
JASON BROWN is the answer! I posted a scenario a couple of days ago. Give him Simmons and BMAC’s money. Then get a 1st or 2nd round lineman. He would probably want to play the Ravens 2 times a year for letting him walk.
it never got weird enough for me

I love to dream, just like u guys,, Either of these 2 would be great addition to the team, unfortunately “MONEY, MONEY, MONEY” which we dont throw around like Al Davis or Jerry Jones.. So not likely.. Would be nice, but agian,, NOT A CHANCE IN HELL..

My Bad
Didn’t mean to steal this one away, or try to at least.
I really don’t think he will draw any huge contract offers, at least from anyone with a contending team. He’s 33, coming off an injury impared season, and I think more than anything else, HE WANTS TO WIN. This guy’s not used to losing. He wants one or two more years with a great team, to try and get him another ring (or two, I hope).
What this really may speak to is Saturday’s opinion on the direction of the Colts. By that I don’t mean they’re going to go in the can (at all, they’re going to be good, no doubt), but I don’t think he thinks they have all the parts in place to make another big run. WE DO. The only thing stopping us from being down right dominating is the o-line. Saturday might think he’s the missing piece that will truly take this team to the next level.
And please let me hold on to the beleif that to some, its about W’s not $‘s. However unrealistic it may be. I know that number of those players is low and getting smaller everyday, but he may be in that small crowd… maybe. Make him a fair, reasonable offer (I think we did a post on this not too long ago) and show him the rings. It’s worth a shot.

not your fault...
I dont think he is after a huge contract, but I have a feeling he will be just out of our range.

Just kinda funny. Great minds think alike.

Give him Simmons' money
If we cut Kendall we’ll at least have some extra cap space. Not sure if it’ll be enough to bring him over, but if he’s okay with just 3-5 million a year for 3 years it’d be amazing.

a guy at the Colts blog was saying that the colts
might be able to sign him to the veteran minimum with a decent signing bonus (3-5 million)
I don’t know how accurate that information is, but hey if the colts fans are saying it, it must be true…

That's what I think.
I really don’t see the “big deal” out there for Saturday. I may be crazy but I think we could get him fairly cheap.

Lends further credence to the though that SBNation should pursue a fan-populated news feed for individual teams.
Don't worry about the haters. Haters only hate.

Money ...
is the big thing re: this transaction. I’m not sure the o-line problems are that bad that a ton of money needs to be spent fixing it. If he can be bought cheap, cheap as in the money to buy a developmental helper, then it is probably a good fit.
