Rooting against the Steelers
ESPN Magazine (the undisputed worse sports magazines in the history of sports magazines) took a fanwide poll (of 177,673 responses) and broke up the percentages by teams. Overwhelmingly people were rooting for the Cardinals with four exceptions:
Bengals fans, Browns fans, Ravens fans and the Buccaneers fans.
It makes a weird kind of sense that our division foes would root for us, but what explains the support from Bucs fans?
I don't know about the rest of you, but I was prepared to root for the Cards in the Ravens got in.

Bucs fans
Because of Tomlin, I presume.

I respect the Ravens
I probably would have rooted for the Cards only because A) I think that Kurt Warner deserves to be in the hall and a win probably would have guaranteed it and B) I wouldn’t want Flacco to beat Ben’s record…
But I really respect the Ravens. They are a lot like us, and I would have had a hard time routing against them…

The only thing that makes sense
If this does make sense, is the Ravens got their butts kicked by us three times, it would be embarrassing for them if we didn’t win.
I agree with not rooting for Ray Lewis and his band of thugs. However, I think Flacco is a pretty good QB, not better than Ben though:).
The Browns, close proximity, even though there is a rivalry, a lot of people from Cleveland have Pittsburgh ties.
I have no clue on the other two teams.

I absolutely would have rooted for the Ratbirds
As I mentioned in a post a couple weeks ago, they’re the closest thing to Steeler football in the NFL (outside of the Steelers, of course). If somehow, completely miraculously the Ratbirds won in the AFCC, then I would have been for them…for the sake of good football, the AFC North, etc…
The Cards are a one hit wonder. Next year, they’ll suck again. But the Rats, just like the Steelers, play football that is synonymous with success (run the football, stop the run, physical for 60 minutes).
I hate the Ratbirds…but I respect them.
The Cards on the otherhand won’t be heard from for another 40-some years.
Why should I change my name? He's the one that sucks!

Respecting them and rooting for them are two different things;
I respect them their game and their players for the most part, but cannot ever see myself rooting for them ever unless it somehow would benefit the Steelers, period!

I think ...
that there is mutual respect throughout our division; intense rivalries to be sure, but respect nonetheless. It does not surprise me that Brownie fans, Bengal fans and Ravens fans come to our support when their teams are out of it. There will be leakers or exceptions to the general trend of course, but for the most part I think it will stand up on most polls.

no way
I wouldv’e rooted for the Bengals or Shitbirds. If we hadn’t been playing, I would have been for the Cards all the way. I like to cheer for underdogs when I get the chance, and I really like Warner. And I think the Cards are gonna be around for awhile. Whiz has modeled them after our franchise, and I think that that has been the difference in this team.
