Breaking News: Ambassador Dan Rooney

It is St Patrick's Day, and - at this hour - President O'bama, wearing a green tie, is meeting at the White House with Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen. It is the traditional holiday meeting between the leaders of the two nations.

And a piece of paper has just been placed in the bin in the White House Press Office, a news release announcing the President's nomination of a certain Daniel Rooney to be United States Ambassador to Ireland.

A White House correspondent with more than three decades on the beat just called me to confirm this most excellent news. (You get the news first at BTSC!)

Ambassador-designate Rooney must be confirmed by the Senate, which should be a formality, and then he will be "His Excellency, Ambassdor Daniel Rooney, Extraordinary and Pletipotentiary. "

But then again, Excellency has always been a watchword for him, and if anyone was ever extraordinary and plentipotentiary, it's been Daniel.

Great news for all of Steeler Nation, and sincere congratulations and best wishes to our Ambassor-to-be! Happy St Patrick's Day to all!

Congrats to Mr. Rooney indeed.

Hey Homer, I just wrote you an email to the account you have registered here. Sorry for the random intrusion but I had been meaning to write it to ya for quite some time. Hopefully you’ll have a chance to respond at your convenience.

Cheers.

Technically

This IS a political post. I know, I know, it’s it’s really a news flash about a Rooney taking a political post. I know, I know it wasn’t meant to be a left versus right.

Nycsteelerfan: I get what you’re saying. I saw it too. I think what worldtrip is saying is you may be exaggerating a bit. By the way who is the lady in the picture? :)

Just one question

Is it really necessary to make sarcastic comments about a particular political figure here on BTSC? I come on this site to get away from this crap.

worldtrip, nycsteelersfan obviously feels the same about Obama as you do about Bush, but this clearly is not the place to have that debate, and I don’t think that these potshot attacks have any place here.

by WolfpackSteelersFan on Mar 19, 2009 12:06 PM EDT reply actions

politics

Agreed, thanx wolfpack! But remember, I DID NOT START IT!!! I am sick and tired of all the insults republicans and President Bush have taken…A lot deserved, but Obama is a joke also!

by nycsteelerfan on Mar 19, 2009 12:30 PM EDT reply actions

True

I lean to the right, as well, and PixburghArn and I had a short conversation about that a week or two ago. I hesitated to even say anything about politics, but I’m quite sure that I didn’t make any derogatory comments about anyone on the left. I guess there’s not much more to say, because, as I said, I don’t want to start (or continue) a political debate.

And, I will say this to your comment about not starting it. I’ve been on this site for a couple years now, and from my memory, I only remember any unprovoked political attacks directed towards those on the right. Thankfully, they’ve been very rare. And, it’s certainly possible that there were some attacking those on the left. Wait, I do remember Robert Ethan criticizing Obama in his rants about Tomlin. That’s the only instance I remember.

Anyway, I’m just saying, let’s leave political (and religious) judgment calls off of this site. Certainly, congratulating Dan Rooney on his ambassadorship is completely appropriate here, but any other discussion of what we think of one politician or another should stay off of this site (I’m sure it’s fine to say you’re glad the president is a Steelers fan is fine, though).

And Blitz

Let me know if you think I’m getting too overbearing or anything.

by WolfpackSteelersFan on Mar 19, 2009 1:03 PM EDT up reply actions

no you are correct

I am just hoping this discussion goes away before heating up. Love how things kinda moderate themselves here. Anyway..
