ATTENTION ALL STEELER FANS

Hello, I'm colts9318rock from Stampede Blue. We are doing a mock draft of the first 2 rounds in this years NFL draft...................duh. Anyway, it would be awsome if you guys could give us some info on who you think the Steelers will take. Some of my close friends are Steelers fans and seem to believe that you could possibly take a WR, CB, or an go with somebody on the O-line. I dont know? Hell, some even say you could take a DE. If you would be so kind and comment it will be much appreciated! Colts9318rock out

I would say all of those are possibilities, but in the first two rounds i’d say OL, DE, and CB are the most likely suspects. Although if a WR happens to fall to a place of value we’d probably scoop him up.

My Steelers late first draft board for now:

Oher
An. Smith
Hood
Britton
Jackson
Butler
Al. Smith
Heyward-Bey
Beatty
Nicks
Wood

I’d think about some of the LB’s (including small DE conversions), too, but I’m not that high on any of them and it’s not a big priority for us right now. We won’t draft a RB, QB, or probably a TE in the first.

I think the Steelers could go a number of ways with this pick depending on who is availalbe.

I guess it might be easier to say what we won’t pick in the first round. QB, TE, RB, K, P, and Long Snapper. Although I guess if Pettigrew fell to us their would be a slim chance we would take him with Heath’s Contract almost up.

“Hell, some even say you could take a DE.”

Don’t know much about anything else, but Jarron Gilbert sounds like the type of DE (from DT) upon whom the front office would place more value than most other teams would. Rather like Bruce Davis last year (moving from DE to LB). While it’s not at all clear that his position on the “best player available” chart falls neatly to a multiplier of 32, his stock seems to have risen enough that he could be worthy of a sub-100 pick. The point being that the Steelers have two second round picks, and will likely have two third round picks via a compensatory pick. Gilbert will surely not fall through that net. As a Steeler he could very well be groomed to eventually replace Aaron Smith. Notice I didn’t type “Brett Kiesel”. Others believe he would only be a nice replacement for Kiesel, but it seems to me that he is better than that…

Who knew?

Gilbert is a better athlete than football player right now – his tests looks better than his tape. It’s still possible that the Steelers would take him, but they typically have favored guys (like Bruce Davis) that are highly productive in college over freak athlete “upside” guys.
