Rooneys would push for changes to OT rules
Always a controversial topic... Here's the Rooney take on overtime.

simple OT setup
Teams trade possession, starting on their own 20. All kicks save punts are eliminated. No FGs or PATs. Play until you have a winner. I think that gives each side a fair shot, and allows a team to use its whole playbook so it’d be better football.
Sorry Steel
just can’t get on board with your idea. It is to specialized like college ball. Taking out special team play would hurt the game in my opinion, and the possible injuries? I would rather see something like the Rooney’s proposed. You have a coin flip, and the winner accepts or defers. Each team gets a possession, and if it is still tied then sudden death for 15 minutes. You can still have a tie during the regular season, but in the playoffs you play until someone scores.
Personally never thought the overtime rule was a big deal, but if the Steelers would have lose the SB in overtime, I may have snapped. If there was another coin flip issue that caused the Steelers to lose, I would have snapped.

The Rooney's are absolutely right
A Superbowl decided by sudden death overtime would cause massive outrage among football fans, and for good reason. The current OT rules are not fair, and leave the game’s result hinged to some extent on a coin toss. Mark my words, if they leave the rule as it stands there will be a reckoning for dear commissioner and their misstep on this issue.
The player’s representation is being shortsighted in this and should rethink their position. Their claim of concern for player health rings hollow when we hear little from them in regard the proposed extension to a 17 or 18 game season, which has far more impact on a player’s career than OT ever will.
