An interesting quote that some may find controversial this morning from Mike Tomlin. The subject? Michael Vick.

"I thought the basis of our country was built on second chances and redemption. This guy pays his debt to society and he's reinstated by [NFL] commissioner [Roger] Goodell, he deserves an opportunity to right some of the things he has done wrong."

Yeah, but.....

Would Tomlin, under any circumstances, want Vick playing for him? Hell NO!!

Let's Go!

How sure are we of that?

I know it’s not our style to bring in a “troubled” player, but should no team want him as a starter (which assumes he’s reinstated, big assumption), would we grab him as a back up or possiblly try and make a WR/ KR out of him? Our team is strong, our front office won’t put up with any BS, why wouldn’t we show marginal interest in him?
There must be some interest in a mobile QB (as drafting Dixon shows), and our back up QB position isn’t that good, should Lefty or Charlie Batch not come back. I don’t think it’s likely by any stretch, but I’m not going to write it off just yet.

We don’t need him, we already have a future HOF in #7.
If Vick can find some team with a need at that position and is willing to give him a 2nd chance, then I don’t see a problem with it.

But deserves got nothing to do with it.

I didn't say start him...

If no one wants him as a starter, is he valuable as a back up, or is he willing or able to change positions and be a WR or KR. He could be a good back up (maybe) at QB, should we need him. He would be a decent WR/ KR if the ability is still there, throw in a gadget play from time to time. Man throws a mean deep ball, and we could use a kick returner. Just a thought.

Agree with Tomlin

We have plenty of people in this country who got a second chance. The guy did his time lets move on.

Vick

I live in Atlanta. There were alot of rumblings about his poor/mediocre qb play his last couple of years he played. Bobby Petrino was hired to work on his passing ability. It would have been very interesting if the whole dog fighting thing never happened…and Vick had another poor/mediocre season passing the ball. What would Blank have done? Schaub actually might have been a better fit in Petrino’s passing system which required sound decision making and accurate passing…which Vick had struggled with. But Vick had signed his mega-contract for 100+million…it would have been interesting to see how it turned out.

Second chance? Of course. He paid his debt, he absolutely deserves a chance to prove himself. One blogger said in the above article, “if Vick gets reinstated, I’ll stop watching the NFL.” What? I just don’t get that.

I think he will be a good pick up for someone. But, I wouldn’t want him.

vick is a troubled case

He’s had a history of unfortunate incidents, be they settling out of court for ron mexico, having a water bottle with a compartment, giving fans the finger and associating with friends of dubious moral character. And the recent news of illegally withdrawing pension plan funds and ongoing bakruptcy. Not to mention whatever physical and mental condition he is in after serving time.
Most athletes get 2nd chances, and the better they are at their sport, the more chances they get.
I don’t know if this counts as Vick’s second chance, but Roger probably will let him back in. He let Pacman back in when that guy seemed to screw up every time the Commish advised him not to.

Personally, I love dogs. And breeding dogs to fight one another and killing dogs yourself is a sickness I find revolting. I wouldn’t want him on my team, but no rules I’ve read call for a lifetime ban because of what he has done, and getting back in the nfl environment with supportive teammates could help him. However, I don’t think he has any chances left if he screws up again.

Sorry......

I don’t agree with this second chance nonsense! Did you ever think that’s part of why there is so much crime in the first place? Scum bags know they are going to get that 2nd chance. Vick should be thrown in a cage with 10 or 12 rabid pit bulls, end of story. And where is the line drawn? What if he raped someone? If he serves his time he should be able to play football again? I say that’s crap! Some of the things this douche bag did were unbelievable!!! So do your time, pay your debt to society, and I hope you’re sorry for what you did. By no means do I think he should be able to do what he once loved and make millions doing so! You should have thought about that before hand Mr. Vick. Just my opinion, but our law system has everything backward.

Tomlin's Controversial Comment?

Although I find Michael Vick’s actions to be absolutely deplorable, I see no controversy with mike Tomlin’s comment. But what person can honestly say that he, or she has never made a mistake, or broken some sort of law in thier lfe. Granted, Vick’s acts of animal cruelty were definitely uspeakable, but need I remind you, that he has servered his debt to society, and deserves a second chance. I mean look at it this way. If we can give an A*****E like Kobe Bryant a second chance, why not Michael Vick!

Obviously no one can say they haven't broken a rule, and probably a law.

However, if someone like you or me was charged with the same thing Vick was, I assure you we would still be in jail with some years remaining! When we got out with a felony on our record, I think that may make it a tad bit hard to find a stable, good paying job! Why should it be different for him? This clown had millions and chose to be a f**k up. Deal with it Vick, you piece of s**t! I hope all of his options fall through and he winds up working at the local car wash.
