Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

Lord Byron is moving on to a team where he will probably get to compete for a starting roster position. It would have been nice if the steelers could have retained his services, but it is not surprising that Byron is moving on.

Best of luck to him and his new team. He was a class-act number two for the steelers. Without him we likely lose the skins game and things could have worked out a lot differently this past year.

Lets look for Batch to get resigned and Dixon to show enough in the pre-season to be active for game days.

Thanks Byron

I totally agree with you. Byron came into a difficult situation and handled himself very well earning respect with the coaching staff, his teamates and we fans. BOL to a super kind of guy.

+1

BL contributed when needed and was a class act while in Pittsburgh. I wish him luck in Tampa.

I had my doubts when we signed him

but he turned out to be a great guy on and off the field. Here’s hoping he earns himself that starting job.

Byron, you've got the heart of a Steeler

I’m glad you came in here and got a ring with us. I’m glad you got the chance to play for an organization that could see your talent and offered you the respect you deserve. I didn’t know much about you before you came here, but your actions on and off the field were that of a champion. Best of luck in your future endeavors.

not saying that to be snarky. Trying to say that I hope that he can lead his team to the Super Bowl and that we will be there as well.

Glad to see someone finally gave him a shot

He should easily beat out McCown for the job. I hope to see him do well

Good contract for Leftwich

Guys, you have to give Leftwich’s agent props for the contract he got for Byron. With only the Steelers and Redskins offering minimum wage deals, he got his client signed in Tampa Bay for a 2-year, $7.5M deal. Of that amount, $2M will be made this year and he’ll have a roster bonus of $3.5M next year that has to be paid at the start of the free agency period. If the Bucs pick up the roster bonus, then Leftwich would make $5.5M in 2010.

I think that is pretty good for a backup QB that could end up being your starter for two years.

So...

Never mind all this “thanks and good luck” stuff. What’s he worth in terms of compensatory picks next year? ;-)

Honestly, I really like the idea of having BL as a back-up. He seemed like a great fit with the team and the potential for injury to BB is just too huge to contemplate.

Flacco = Joe Montana

As the Ravens blogger, I’ve never heard this comparison. However, always heard similar comments about Big Ben after his first season, and while he has played great and is one of the better QB’s as far as winning in the NFL, he is no Joe Montana either. Flacco basically did the exact same thing as Ben did in his first year. Got them to the AFC Championship Game (lost) but did so as a complementary player, not the star. Both teams stars were the defense and the reason they didn’t do well when they had to throw over 30 passes, is that both teams are and have alway been a run-first offense. Meaning that if they were throwing over 30 passes, they were usually losing and playing outside their game plans. Slam Joe any way you want, but you’re looking at a mirror image after one season with Ben. So who knows where we’ll go after this year. One thing I do know is that we’re going to have – AT LEAST – two more wars next season!

Steelers, BABY!!!

Hey Rexx, do me a favor and ask Willis McGahee how many fingers are we holding up here at BTSC? I think it is six, and it’ll be seven after next year.

And next season, tell your players to keep their head on a swivel. It takes too much time from the game to have to take a television timeout and get a stretcher on the field every time one of your players get knocked the F-out by us, which happens quite often (especially by our WRs).

Here we go Steelers, Here we go!
