Five Prime-Timers include the opener against the Titans, Week Four at home against the Chargers, Week 9 at Denver, Week 12 at Baltimore and Week 14 at Cleveland. Another item of note, many 1:00 p.m. games this season and only one 4:15 game (at Chicago Week 2). I guess the league heard the Ravens crying loud and clear. Not only do the Ravens not play us in Pittsburgh Prime Time, but we go there for a night game.

interesting...
i wonder what importance that Baltimore game at home will have in week 16
Good bye week btw, just in the middle of the season, nice!
Baltimore doesn't worry me at home, or away.
Hope they stop crying now!!!
The very existence of flamethrowers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

But James Harrison will.
Sucks that its not on MNF, that’s where he shines.

i think i like chicago early
Common logic is better to not play at Soldier Field in frigid cold, but then again, I think our defense would just dominate them in bad weather whereas Cutler could get some things going on a nice fall day in Septemeber. Regardless, tough two weeks to start for sure. Re-emergence of Beerman if we’re 1-1 or 0-2???

I Can't Wait!
I am so glad Chicago is early! Going to Chi town, Kansas City, and hopefully Denver! Like our spread of games and Primetime games. Tough December but I’m liking our repeat road
Will Ryan Clark be able to play in denver....

no point in speculating
If you asked him, I’m sure he’d say he’ll play. Hopefully all involved will make sound choices, Clark most importantly. Not educated enough on subject but I’m sure when we have that BYE week with no game to talk about it, we’ll obsess over it then as we patiently wait two weeks for the next game. Thats a big game btw. Love we have a week off before heading to Denver.

Titans game
Will really be something. I love that they put it at the beginning of our schedule. Two teams with a bit of something to prove on opening night. Still I would say that it’s a tough start to a pretty easy schedule. San Diego with a healthy Shawne Merriman, Chicago with Jay Cutler at QB and Tennessee. We will quickly see if the Steelers are feeling in 09 slump.
how...
is it that the defending Super Bowl Champs, and one of the most popular franchises in professional sports only gets 1 Monday Night game? just seems strange to me…
Why should I change my name? He's the one that sucks!
by NoCal-SteelCity on Apr 14, 2009 7:56 PM EDT reply actions
I’m guessing they don’t separate Monday nights from Sunday nights and now Thursday nights. They look at all three in the same way; thus, all that matters to them from the big picture is that the Steelers have five prime time games, the max allowed. If you think about it, I much prefer Thursday or Sunday nights as they don’t put us at a disadvantage playing the following game against a team better rested and with more time to prepare. In fact, Thursday games give you an advantage in that regard
Thoughtful discussion with a sense of history
and id add that
MNF is kinda the second bill these days in terms of primetime games. We have three SNF games, that ultimate marquee opener, plus one usual mid week NFLN divisional game – Cleveland. I havent seen full MNF schedule, but I’d bet it’s filled with a fair number of so-so games like SF-NO; Minny-Green Bay type games. Where as SNF will have the Giants-Cowboys, Pats-Colts, etc type games. Those are just examples, not sure they exist as matchups, but I think you get my gist

I'm sticking to my guns
With James Harrison promising to continue greatness and coach Mike Tomlin laying the law down to repeat, I see the 15-1 record this year. That is only barring injury. I hope it comes to light and win you guys back.

this sucks
i actually get to go to a pittsburgh game this year (Miami) and it turns out to be the last game of the season? it’s probably going to be a meaningless game.
I HATE THE NFL SCHEDULERS.
15-1 We lose to Detroit.
PSYCHE, dude we go 16-0, I’m calling it right now, that’s right!

And the Ravens
finish in last place of the AFCN because Ray Lewis and Ed Reed could not emotionally deal with the fact the Ravens were totally decimated by CLE and CIN so they left to go play for the Jets.

Is the schedule TOO easy?!?
I hate to say it but we’ve kind of gone to sleep in the past when we got this kind of line-up. Hopefully Coach T. can keep the boys motivated.

upon first glance, two thoughts:
- I might have to go down to that game @ Miami
- There will be a lot more early drinking than I really like to do this fall
"It was an attrition football game and you know we like that."
lol true that about point #2
Out west its really awful. I choose not to drink that early during the day – just dont like it and have to write on the blog too much after the games to enjoy being even the least bit faded. But yeah, def wish there were a few more late afternoon games. Oh well.
by Michael Bean on Apr 14, 2009 9:56 PM EDT up reply actions
yeah at least you west coasters get to enjoy MNF
I hate getting all hyped up for something that’s so exciting, and it starts right when I should be getting ready for bed. And then you wake up the next day and it’s Tuesday. Sucks. Just start it at 8 for christ sakes! I guess that would be like 5:30 on the west coast. That would rock if you could get out of work.
At least two of the 1 PMs will start later. 5 prime times is the most we could get, and that’s what I expected. The Steelers are World Champions after all!

That everyone loves watching a trainwreck instead of solid football. Oh well. I kinda like watching them blow up on TV.

but how??
Everwhere I’ve read says the most a team can have is five, how does a non playoff team not only have more than us, but have six?? I personally don’t care if we are in primetime or not, but it rankles me that Dallas has more than what is ‘allowed’. I don’t understand it.
Up to three teams can have six...
We might be one of those teams if we get flexed near the end of the season to a prime time game.

Easy on paper
The Steelers are going to have a target on their backs all year and teams that look bad on paper right now could be much different in five months. I like the chances of Tomlin keeping everyone motivated en route to a 14-2, 13-3 type season. Aside from the opener vs. Tennessee, the non-Division game I’m most looking forward to is Week 9 in Denver after the bye. I know I’ll be in desperate need of a Steeler after 15 days cold turkey and it’s a Monday nighter in a noisy place where we’ve had problems before, against a high-profile rookie coach with a Patriots’ connection, basically kicking off the second half of the season.

i'm sure we'll have a target on our backs but...
this is about the best schedule you can hope for, especially in terms of wear on the players. entire preseason to prep for titans (home) & followed by 10 days rest before the bears (who play @ GB the week before, where they lost last year). home vs chargers (week before, they play dolphins who they lost to last year). home vs vikings (play ravens week before). bye before broncos (they play ravens week before). 10 days break before packers (home) (they are @ chicago week before, where they lost). 2nd time against ravens is home during our ONLY 2 game stretch of .500+ teams w/out at least 10 days in between (1st time we play them, they play the colts week before, who they lost to & 2nd time they play bears week before). & dolphins play texans week before (who beat miami last year). 4 outta 6 games against last year’s playoff teams are home. agn only ONCE do we play games against .500+ teams right after each other w/out at least 10 days in between. only time any team gets more than a week to prep for us are the raiders, they get 10 days. & finally, a week before any 6-10 or better team plays against us, they play a a) playoff team or team above .500 b) a team that was .500 & beat them last season, or c) away at a division rival that beat them last year. that being said, we obv still hafta win the games & teams can improve.
could be turn out to be a negative though
on the other hand, i think our hard regular season schedule combined with a lot of close 4th quarter games helped give us an edge over teams in the playoffs. we knew how to get stuff done when the going got tough & didnt panic. especially, in the super bowl. ex) i think it hurt the colts more than helped to not play against a team better than 5-11 a month before playoffs (i’m not counting the titans game cuz neither side took it seriously).
Steelers 2009 Schedule
I can’t stop laughing my Ass Off
What is the NFL trying to do? ….Give my Steelers their 2nd straight and 7th SuperBowl Title
You Guys should hear all the Fans from other Teams cry about our Schedule
If the Steelers (at worse) do NOT go 13 and 3, and don’t get Home Field Advantage in the Playoffs, I would be Shocked and Disappointed
by Steeler Y360 Nation on Apr 15, 2009 2:35 AM EDT reply actions
so many weeks before playing the ravens
lot of speculation beforehand
I voted for the bears game, I mean yes, titans, opening night, that’s a given I’m hyped for it already. But of the rest of the games, I am looking forward to the Steelers taking a crack at Cutler.
As for strength of schedule, the steelers play 4 of the other 5 afc teams that made the playoffs last year. And there are very few consistently good or bad teams each year you can circle as tough or easy games.
We owe the Raiders a butt kicking!
Can’t wait for that game, absolute favorite non AFCN game. Give a cheer for the visiting team. “Raiders suck! Raiders suck! Raiders Suck!”
